GoPro Hero 7 & 8 Mic Adapter - Review and Test & How to use with Rode Wireless Go

This video is a close look at the expensive GoPro Hero 3.5mm TRS Mic Adapter and how it works with the GoPro Hero 7 Black camera. I also review and test it with the Rode Wireless Go system, a Sennheiser ME2 lavalier mic and also with a line in connection from a Zoom Livetrak L8 mixer/podcaster desk.

Great video. Will it work if I were to connect the XLR-TRS cables from the 'Master Out' into the mic adaptor into gopro?

Yes I thinks so, as long as the levels were ok and the xlr to trs adapter was wired correctly. There are probably better people than me to ask but I would guess yes.

Awesome video! Did you use the Hero7's "Standard mic" setting and the Rode Wireless Go "Low" setting with the lav mic?

I tried both the low and middle setting on the Wireless Go and went for the low to give me some extra headroom. Yes I used the standard setting on the GoPro's menu for the Sennheiser ME2 lav mic and the built in mic on the Wireless Go and it sounded good. Thanks for your comment....

Hello, I'd like to have 4pin Jack with 2 microphones and that one of the microphones was directing the sound to the left earphone and the second michrophon directing the sound to the right earphone. It's a possible? I have a GoPro 8

Hi Mikkser, To be honest I'm not sure because the input on the unit is a TRS, so I think you would have to have a splitter like this: uk.rs-online.com/web/p/av-adapters/0392570/?cm_mmc=UK-PLA-DS3A-_-google-_-PLA_UK_EN_Connectors_Whoop-_-AV+Adapters_Whoop+(2)-_-392570&matchtype=&pla-296100018402&gclid=CjwKCAjwqvyFBhB7EiwAER786eJtzacaNUb1OikdWng8pv91Si-EnTiAiM94BKfPZG3TXO0IkbUz_hoCBrUQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds but that would only give you 2 mics in mono across both left and right channels. There may be another way but you would have to use a mixer, which is not ideal for you. Please check with somewhere else also as I may have missed something these are only my thoughts. Hi, I Have a problem connecting multiple condenser microphones and Rode Wireless Go (which I haven't bought yet) to a single mixing console(Yamaha MG10XU), because the Neutrik combo jack input has 48v phantom power in its XLR, is it safe if I connect the Rode receiver to the TRS of the combo jack?

Yes it should be ok, presumably there is a switch somewhere on the desk to turn the phantom power on and off.

I think I tried both the stereo headphone jack out and the XLR outs(stereo lead) to 3,5mm TRS jack.

Hi Torus, I got mine on Ebay, made in China, I've just looked and couldn't see it on there either. There is the Ulanzi one also, I have one of those for my Hero 9. It's good

Hi Ewerton, The only output on the camera is a USB which is for charging, transferring files and connecting to a computer to be used as a webcam. To be honest I am not sure but I think the answer would be through a media mod of some kind which would have an audio output from a 3.5mm jack so in that case it would be possible to put that signal through into a sound mixer.

Hello, on your l8 to the go pro, are you using an XLR to a 3.5? Or using the phone port 3.5 trrs to the go pro 3.5 trrs end?

I think I used one of the monitor outs. I could have used the trrs output or an XLR but chose the monitor out as I had the correct lead handy.

Does the audio in work with Stereo line level inputs?

Hi Juan, yes the input value can be changed. The last section of the video I am using a line level in from the Zoom desk. It can be altered in the menu on the camera.

Hi Helderhugo, the input is a stereo input so it should accept a stereo mic with no issues.
