How about the battery if we use 5k video?
@GreatDayForAHike2 жыл бұрын
The battery (if you use an Enduro) will last about 55 minutes in 5K. If it’s cold and you don’t have an Enduro battery then the battery with have a much shorter duration. If it’s normal, average temperatures then a standard GoPro battery will last around 40 minutes in 5K.

Good day. In gopro labs what shutter angle should I go for in low light? Thanks!
@GreatDayForAHikeАй бұрын
If you’re using a gimbal with Hypersmooth off and if your FPS is 24, 25, or 30 I recommend 180 degrees. If your FPS is 60 or higher 180 degrees also works, but you may be able to keep Hypersmooth on as this will be a faster shutter speed. If your FPS is 24, 25, or 30 and you’re keeping Hypersmooth on and not using a gimbal I recommend a shutter angle of 45 degrees to ensure there is no jitter and ghosting in low light.

I was searching for how to set for night recording and I clicked on your tutorial! I stopped using my GoPro 8 as it was not showing the date and time correctly and it would turn off mid recording even if the battery was full charged. So I put it away and started recording on my iPhone 14 Pro and 13. That worked for awhile but it wasn't a perfectly smooth recording on the iPhone. I am back recording on my GoPro8 while I am cycling, will the settings you have shown here work for me as I am cycling in both day and night. I have some recorded and the clip is really dark at night, I don't remember it being so dark when I use to record on the GoPro a lot when I first bought a couple of years ago. Do I have to reset this for day and for night every time I start to record?

Great question. I recommend using the GoPro Labs firmware and then adjusting the shutter speed such that it won’t go any slower than 1/200. This will help get the best possible low light footage without needing a gimbal and still being able to have Hypersmooth on. @GreatDayForAHike3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! 1x zoom is the GoPro default. This means there isn’t any zoom being applied. I don’t recommend doing zoom while recording on the GoPro because it will be digital zoom which will degrade the quality of the footage. I'm filming the Disney TRON coaster on a chest mount on Wednesday so I'm thinking I will need hypersmooth ON cause it will be crazy jittery without it. They wont allow a gimbal just the chest mount. Any recommendations for this?
@GreatDayForAHike Жыл бұрын
That could be a tricky situation to film in low light. You could still keep Hypersmooth off and use ReelSteady to stabilize the footage later on but ReelSteady has a cost of $99 (an optional add-on to the GoPro Player software). If you turn Hypersmooth on you would need to make sure the shutter speed does not get too low otherwise the electronic image stabilization will not work properly and it will cause jitters to your footage (Hypersmooth needs clear, sharp frames to work properly). If Hypersmooth is turned on I would recommend keeping it on the lowest setting and maybe boosting your ISO Max to 1600. One of those situations where it would be useful if you could test twice with each setting and then find which works best for you. Not sure if that is possible but if it is I recommend that. Have fun!

@GreatDayForAHike2 жыл бұрын
Yes, the GoPro can do some low light and night time shooting but it has to be used with care in these settings due to their not being much flexibility due to the sensor size. Low light filming is not really a scenario where any action camera is going to be the best option. For best results a more costly option such as an APS-C or full frame mirrorless camera will be useful.

When I start filming everything is fine but after 45 seconds the monitor/screen gets darker and after a number of seconds the screening goes black. I have to touch the monitor/screen again for the image to appear again. My question then is if it should be like that or if there is a way to remove this function.

Yes, I know how to fix this. It’s just a settings adjustment that needs to be made. Swipe down, swipe left, and select Preferences. Under the Preferences menu select Displays. If you set shutter to twice the frame rate (1/50) more light is able to get into the camera and the footage will also have the proper motion blur (180 degree rule). Otherwise those settings look pretty good. High sharpness could create some issues depending upon the setting.

Why shoot at 5.3k/highest resolution-24fps? Why not 1080p-24fps? You didn't explain the reason why you recommend shooting at the highest resolution. You only explained the reason of choosing 24fps.
@GreatDayForAHike3 жыл бұрын
Great question. I shoot at the highest resolution possible because it will give me the highest resolution this camera is capable of which gives me a lot more flexibility when editing and the footage has more detail and looks better. If I want to downscale the 5.3K or 4K to 1080p on a 1080p timeline while editing, then the footage will look extra good as long as I set the footage to 1080p so that it does not lose the resolution. When setting 5.3K or 4K footage to 1080p a lot more pixels are crammed more closely together and it looks extra good vs simply filming in 1080p.

Depends on a lot of factors such as what iPhone model you are using, how much light you have available while filming, etc. GoPro cameras are not at their best in low light. Gimbal! The whole point of getting the GoPro is NOT to have to use a gimbal. This is why I use the Pocket 2 at night. If you use a gimbal, you can use ANY settings you want. I should make a video like that: How to use a Gopro at Night- Use a gimbal.
@GreatDayForAHike2 жыл бұрын
Night time and low light filming is not a primary use case of the GoPro and most who own a GoPro will likely use it 90% of the time or more in good lighting and during the daytime. This video is to help those who own a GoPro and want to film in low light learn how to get the best results. I do disagree that if you use a gimbal you can use any settings you want. Using a gimbal does not alone guarantee good results. The settings very much still matter. For instance if someone selected an ISO Max of 100, sharpness of High, or leave Hypersmooth on they will not get good results in low light. The settings do matter. I’m glad you like the Pocket 2 for night time filming and I hope you continue to enjoy that. The Pocket 2 has several physical design and feature limitations that the GoPro Hero 10 does not have. So it really just depends on what you want to do with the camera and what works best for your specific use case. Everyone has different goals and use cases for their specific situation.
