I just bought a pre-owned GP 8 for one purpose, which is to try and document a few special MC rides while I still can. I had NO idea how complex these are. This tutorial is absolutely fantastic! I'd be willing to buy a quick settings guide with this info, which would save me from either taking numerous screenshots or attempting to keep notes. Neither of which is a realistic solution. At my age trying to remember this is not an option. Had I not seen this, it's quite likely this would have either eventually gone in the box with all the other cameras I got very little use of, or put for sale. I so regret not having this technology available for the few times the wife and I did some very risky ocean kayaking with 13' Feathercraft's with homemade sails. THANKS SO MUCH!

Thanks! The photo will by default be in the 4:3 aspect ratio (or in the case of the Hero 11, the 8:7 aspect ratio). This is because GoPro designed the photo mode to use the entire sensor. If you want to crop it later on you can easily do so on your computer or phone. Hope this helps!

Any additional suggestions for my use which is basically dirt bike riding? Thanks.
@GreatDayForAHike2 жыл бұрын
That’s a fun use case and the GoPro is a great camera for this. Two main things you’ll want to consider: 1. What frame rate do you want to share your video in? Many prefer the 60fps for action like this. 2. What lens do you want. Do you want super wide where the horizon appears to bend with Superview or do you want horizon leveling where the horizon stays consistent with the Linear + HL lens? Also, you may want some slow motion clips at times too. If you do I recommend 4K 120fps. Check out these tips for the slow motion if you decide to do this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYHcn2WJmamZkJo
@BraaapoholicBob2 жыл бұрын
@@GreatDayForAHike Thank you for the reply...to answer your questions I see most people at 60FPS for fast action like a dirt bike so probably will do that. Also, I think the Superview really adds to the videos I see with bikes, etc. Just seems to look better when you take in a lot of the terrain. As for slow motion I might experiment with that but mostly I am a set it and forget it person and it is unlikely I will spend any significant time doing post editing other than cropping segments.
@GreatDayForAHike2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a great plan. Yes, when I watch footage of action sports like this I think I enjoy it most in Superview.

Thank you. If you would like to edit and have maximum vertical and horizontal flexibility with your footage later on I recommend using the 8:7 full frame mode in 5.3K 30fps. If you don't need that much flexibility then I recommend doing the 5.3K resolution using the wide or ultrawide lens if you prefer more of the landscape around you. As for frame rate you could choose 60 fps if there is a chance you'll want to slow anything down. Otherwise you could use 24 or 30 fps.

I want to use my gopro with a telescope. I'm thinking the narrow mode will work for me. Unless of course if I'm not fixing it to the lens. I'm am concerned about the movement of shaking from the telescope. Maybe stop filming until the target is reached. Anyway thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Yes I think the Narrow mode will probably be your best bet for that type of filming situation. Thanks.

Thank you for your great video. I have one question for you. I have Nikon D7100 camera to take pictures and to do video with gimbal DJI Ronen RS 2 that I have. Now I'm thinking and to buy GOPRO Hero 10. this design is easier to use in cities and fast moving with Gimbals Ronin SR 2. My question is if it is a bad choice to buy GoPro 10 action camera and to be able to use for Gimbal Ronin SR2, maybe is this Hohem iSteady Pro 4 is better choice. Than you for help. Alex

Great question. The RS 2 is a great gimbal. I’m thinking the GoPro could be too light for that gimbal and may tend to bounce around a bit too much but it could be worth trying the GoPro on it first to see how it does. If it doesn’t work out then I’d recommend checking out either the iSteady Pro 4 or the Inkee Falcon Plus.

Hi there. Thanks for the video. Quick question, if Im flying FPV drones would 60FPS be better than the slower 30/24 FPS?
@GreatDayForAHike4 ай бұрын
Yes. I personally love 60FPS combined with a 1/240 shutter speed and an Auto ISO if you’re using ND filters. That gives that nice FPV feel while still having plenty of motion blur. If you’re not using ND filters just do 60FPS with an Auto shutter speed and Auto ISO.

@@GreatDayForAHike Yeah I just ran a side by side comparison after flying around with two different profiles. 60FPS is definitely better for my use. I don't use ND filters, any recommendations?
@GreatDayForAHike3 ай бұрын
@0Ciju0 if you’re looking for ND filters, I use the ones from Freewell and like them as the best product for the best price. If you don’t want to use ND filters then 60FPS with an Auto Shutter speed should work well.

What ISO settings should I use in sunny weather when I move from an open space into a forest where there is less light?
@GreatDayForAHike5 ай бұрын
I recommend an ISO Min of 100 and an ISO Max of 800 to give you flexibility. The GoPro will only boost to the ISO Max of 800 if needed due to low lighting.
@GreatDayForAHike5 ай бұрын
@rosta2899 Make sure you have the Pro/High Performance modes enabled in order to ensure you have access to all settings.

@@GreatDayForAHike Thanks for the information, I have it turned on but still can't change the ISO setting.

@@GreatDayForAHike I already know where the problem is; when setting the option for 4K and HDR, it is not possible to set the ISO
@GreatDayForAHike5 ай бұрын
@rosta2899 Ah yes, HDR mode does not allow for the ISO to be changed.

Im a total beginner with action cams. Just starting off. I play racquetball and want go get good footage. What camera settings would be best for capturing this sport with such a fast small ball to track?

Great video! I just bought a GoPro 12 and I love it but I have noticed that sometimes on certain skin tones things look a bit over sharpened and you can see a lot of blemishes on people’s skin, almost looks too sharp. If I’m just shooting scenery, everything looks gorgeous but when I’m shooting people or interviewing people, their skin looks a little sharp or even artifacts a bit. What do you suggest for better results? Sharpness to low? And for ISO max, is 400 outside ok? Thanks for the tips!!!
