I actually did the same thing 2 years ago to my Nexx XR2 racing helmet, and is still on it without showing any issues of getting off, even at speeds 200+. The mount holds on extremely well with Sugru! I think it's more secure that the usual 3M stickers. Cheers!

I have the same helmet. I added another piece of 3m double sided tape and used 2 spring clamps, one from the bottom (chin) and removed the breath deflector and clamped it from the top for a couple of hours. The extra piece of tape filled in the gaps. Worked great.

2 changes in your procedure that I would employ. 1. Use hair dryer to heat adhesive pad to remove it. This melts or softens the adhesive to allow clean removal. 2. Cut first, then grind or sand to smooth. I've also used a torch to melt and round edges on other projects. Beer is an excellent motivator for any project. Put a cold beer in the cooler so that it's ready when you finish. Great help in "gitting 'er done".

I've used 2-part epoxy putty for all kinds of things, but had never come across Sugru until I saw this. Somewhat to my surprise I find it's available online in the UK - so I'll get some to try this idea. Thanks, Kevin. Slightly alarming to see an angle grinder being used without gloves, though, and with the workpiece being held in fingers! You don't need a vivid imagination to see that going very wrong. And on plastic? I shall be using a junior hacksaw and a file to shape my mount.

I just made a plastic bracket that clips into the vent. No adhesive. No screws and it is solid yet can easily be removed. I recommend.

You did a brilliant modification to make your chin mount work. I recently discovered a company that is creating custom GoPro chin mounts and I just reviewed it for my HJC F70 on my channel if you are interested. Easy installation and all air vents are still functional. Maybe not as satisfying as the custom job you did though! Love your channel Kevin!

Thanks for the idea of the Sugru Kevin! Finished product came out even better than the 3M tape. This stuff looks like the perfect solution for many situations that seem to come up around the house as well. I was a little surprised that you didn't rough up the painted area you were to be attaching to but I guess the rubber glue material is so awesome, it didn't matter. I'll be setting up my helmet as soon as I can locate the Sugru.

Purchased a 2017 Yamaha WR20R two weeks ago....bought a GoPro5 black today. I wanted to position my GoPro in the same spot you did however, the curvature on the chin of my helmet would not allow for placement there. The only spot I could find was the left or right side of the helmet where the ear would be. I have seen videos with placement in these positions and half the view is obscured by the helmet...what's the point of having a GoPro, if you are only getting half the picture? I watched your video and just finished purchasing the Sugru from Amazon.ca Your mount looks amazing, I am definitely going to give it a go! Thanks for the awesome video and outstanding idea! Ride safe eh!!

How is this holding up (or holding on, I should say) after all this time? I don't understand how it could stick to the slick, non-porous surface of a motorcycle helmet with the camera weight and 100mph winds. Is it still holding up? Looks like the best option for me but I really don't understand how it can stick on longterm! Thanks!
@MCrider7 жыл бұрын
Sugru is a glue and moldeable rubber. Once it cures (24hrs) it will provide a much more secure stick than the 3m tape found on the sticky mounts. I have never had a problem. Kevin www.MCrider.com

I did the install yesterday, looked almost exactly like your setup. I was happy with it. I tugged on it to test it out, it pulled off! I was real skeptical about how it would hold on a polycarbonate plastic helmet shell. The package of Sugru warns against use on oily plastics. I am not sure if polycarbonate is in that category though. I pulled on it to make sure I wouldn't lose my new GoPro Hero 6, lol. I really wish this would've worked for me! The search continues for me I guess. Great video BTW!! I will subscribe ;)

Easy 3M adhesive removal; This stuff works like the cammand hook adhesive... Step 1: Peel upone edge. Step 2: Pull the edge as if you are trying to stretch it, rather than trying to peel it. As the tape stretches it breaks the bond, and comes off in one, very stretched out piece. You are welcome.

Hi everybody can you please give me some suggestions on how to verify with videotape and a go pro hero 4 silver my 1299S when it intermittently and randomly and unexpectedly stalls out? Every time i take it to the dealer they said they can't duplicate the problem and Ducati of North America video taped my bike with no problems. But my 1299s still stalls out on me in congested stop in go traffic all the time and when I feather the clutch and drive between 0 to 15 mph on the street or freeway. However I'm an amateur and I just purchased a hero 4 go pro silver camera do you have suggestions on how to mount it to the 1299S gas tank ? I'm concerned with losing the camera what type a suction mount the go pro hero 4 camera? Should I use the 1 leg big suction cup or 3 leg suction cup or mount the camera on top of my helmet I want to hear the bike shutting down in my video, and I want to show myself stuck in stop n go traffic on the freeway or the bike shutting down on the street as I slow down to make a turn or come to a stop. Or mount camera or under my chin mount? Or on top of helmet mount. I want to see the road speed displayed on the dash to verify the bike stops when I drive 0-15 mph. I want to show the lights going off when the bike shuts down at night when I drive at night. I want to show me pushing the start button and going into neutral gear to restart the bike in the video. What I should I use and what can I use in case the suction loses its grip to keep the camera from damaging the motorcycle and the camera in case it falls thanks advance for everything. The dealer said prove the 1299s is stalling out with video verification because they claim everything is checking out A ok on the computer test sheet with Ducati engineers and Ducati video tape that they won't show me What would you do? Thanks in advance for everything. I have adobe creative suite I don't know how to use it for editing any suggestions?
