GoPro HD: Wi-Fi BacPac + Wi-Fi Remote Tutorial

It took some time but after many tries using a Hero 2 with Wifi BacPac on a Mac everything is working well. The app and the iPhone all synced and connected.

its very complicated but following the steps here i managed to get my remote to actually work. i thought i was going insane for a while though. stick at it and it will work, also if you pause the video at every step that really helps.

** For Windows 7 users experiencing any hanging issues or, well pretty much any unexpected issues, i'd recommend the following... First, set UAC to 'never notify". The instead of just launching Cineform from the start menu, you need to right click it and select "Run as Administrator". That'll fix all your ails.

"Firmware update failed" SOLUTION THAT WORKED FOR ME. Make sure the camera is set to NEVER turn off automatically.

So glad I'm not the only one finding this firmware update impossible. I'll dedicate a few more hours to trying, then if I haven't taken to the new devices with a hammer, they'll be jetting back to GoPro.

yep. Rebooted computer, did all steps again... and it worked. Still a buggy USB connection (tried different cables/USB ports, but still)... I still find it a weird software package that Cineform. Btw I mailed GoPro. never got an answer. My supplier just replied 'well, we didn't had any problems..' Nice. That's the 'support' where most companies brag about. I don't think I'll use it much, the range is a bit short. And i was hoping you could stop/start multiple GoPro at once, which you can't

They're not longer hard set menu's in the latest version. Hover you mouse in the very top left corner just under the Title bar and "File, Edit, Help" should appear. The Device Window is under help. You can also just press CTRL-D to open it.

After formatting, you need to do two pictures. I suppose that on a clean and empty without the card files program can not accurately determine the available space.

it took me 2 days to make it run, including a manual update (google search: "HD2-firmware.bin download") of my cam, cos it didnt work anymore after the cineform studio update... then the wi-fi pac didnt want to connect by usb (had to change the PC to get it updated) but once the connection was there it took me "just" 5min to make all devices run - even the app for my mobile works just fine... big THX to all the users who wrote about their problems and solutions all over the internet ;)

Will the WiFi backpack work with the GoPro Hero 4 Black? Or does it have one of it's own? So far unable to locate such a thing. Need it for use with Blade QX2 350 AP. Mine loses contact in about 60 feet transmitted to Samsung G5.

Sorry in advance for asking but I really don't know a thing about GoPro devices (I'm searching for installing information for my dad). I wonder if BacPac is necessary for pairing the remote and the camera? Is it possible to pair these devices without buying BacPac?

You wouldn't be able to use the remote without the backpack because the backpack is whats receiving the signal from the remote and telling the gopro what to do.

try rebooting you PC, try it again. If that doesn't work, search for Manually GoPro firmware. There is a way you can put the firmware on the GoPro manually. In a sense, that's just what that Cineform does also, get it from the GoPro site (BIN file), and copy it to your SD card.

Here is a tough one for you. I lost my hero 2 in a lake and got a replacement from gopro. Lets say i get a wifi bacpack as well. Could i put the gopro with the wifi bacpack in my dive housing with a dive light and retrieve my lost gopro using the app as a screen?

is the camera turned on? are you using the USB cable that came with it? or, maybe try another USB port on your computer.

YOU MUST PLUG THE WIFI BACKPACK INTO A 2.0 (not 3.0) USB port. How frustrating! It worked perfectly with the 2.0 USB port. Hope this helps.

Had a problem with updating GoPro for the Bac Pac it kept saying update failed. Did a bit of digging around and found that if you quit the cineform thumbnail which looks like a 'C' then it updates with no errors - weird bug and not one I would have found on my own. You will find this on a PC at the bottom right hand corner of your PC screen by the clock.

The GoPro CineForm software in the tutorial has menu options that don't exist on the actual software. There is no View option for manual updating.

I think I have your problem... My bacpac was unable to turn on, the update stopped at 70%... Did you had the same? I think this is because I didn't know that we had to do like the 01:58, I try this tonight. Thanks for help :)

Same exact thing happened to me. I contacted GoPro support and they helped me out with that. They sent me the update via e-mail that I had to directly put on the sd card in order to update the camera. However now my bacpac will not update at all and they said to uninstall then reinstall the cineform studio's and see if that works. So we're still in the process of working on that. :(

why I think that? Because the remote just shows 1 camera at the time... you have to switch to the other to control the other... What I was looking for is 'all on/off' at once... there are other solutions for that, better once also (remote controlled heli's use 'remote control' cables... cost around 30-40 bucks. Control by rc is limited (camera on/off only) but range is waaaaaay further using rc receivers...

@cturchetta, try disabling ALL of your internet security, I mean everything, then restart the computer and pray. It worked for me. But it only worked for the camera, to update the backpac and wifi I had to restart the computer again and fiddle about ... it has taken me 3 hours :(. I hope its all sorted, will test and see

I'm on a Mac & my wi-fi bacpac wouldn't show a battery level or wifi symbol when I turned it on. I restarted the program with just the bacpac alone plugged into the usb & it THEN said "update available". After that, the battery symbol & wifi symbol both showed up on the bacpac screen. I was then able to update the remote & register & change the network & password. Seems to be working fine now.

I'm in the situation that the WiFi Bagpac display don't show notting . I have tryed to update my first BagPac and something is going wrong. . If I connect behind the camera HERO2 the BagPac it compare on list on CineForm Studio but I can not reload or try again firmware installation. Thier ask me to update the Name and Password. Will be possible to update firmware manually?

I follow this guys tutorial and it always fails to update because of room on my SD card. I am using a 8GB SD. It has 2 pics on it. Should be plenty of room. Thoughts???

When I did the update for the LCD backback this was the only way to get the firmware to update. CineForm is useless. So here I am again with this wifi not updating. Where did you get the actual 8.12.124 Firmware? I'd go this button holding and pushing technique again but I can't even find the firmware?

Having issues here too. I believe that the CineForm Studio is the latest version (1.2.1.129), but for some reason it does not have a menu at the top (File, Edit, View, Window, Help). So, when I DON'T get the Device Window opening automatically, I can't manually open it they way they show in the video. I'm running Windows 7. Any ideas?

Whenever I downloaded CineForm for my MacBook, the sd card reader would not read any more. The only way to transfer files was wirelessly or usb cable. I reformatted the computer and all was well. Just to be sure that was in fact the issue, I re-downloaded CineForm. It happened again; wouldn't read any sd cards. Reformatted once more. Never downloaded it again on here. Anyone else? I now only keep CineForm on my Windows desktop.

I have a hero2 and backpac and remote i have updated the cam but I cant get my camera to pair with the backpack or remote. I see the wifi in my cam wifi options when its plugged into pc and power is plugged into back pac its usually saying wifi off in the wifi options. I can select wifi rc or phone and tablet, current new or cancel. in these options on the camera. Can anyone help me with a tex through how to get the 3 working as the Vid link on the gopro website gives you a vid how to install using a different studio program that recognises you connecting the back pac and remote the studio download doesnt? so you install go pro studio and it does not have the options to upgrade the back pac or remote??

Yeah you can control 50 camera's, but you only can 'take over' 1 at the time. So you select camera 1, do your stuff, switch to camera 2,.... Perhaps later with real 'software' (PC or app), you could, but there is no sign of that yet.
