It's actually true. Yakuza's serious crime moments are a great live-action material, but the weird subquests and commedic stuff would fit more if it was an anime.

Going in with low expectations. Considering the makers here did not know anything of the source material.

Series creator Nagoshi Toshihiro is one of the writers for the show and Yokoyama Masayoshi, who was the scriptwriter from 5 until 7 and is executive director of Infinite Wealth, is an executive producer. The crew told the actors to not play the games as to not let it influence how they perform for the show. This is the same sort of blind performance as done with The Last of Us and Fallout.

yes they did, they just specifically chose to no do a 1 to 1 retelling. Obviously that may turn out bad, but there's no saying what it will be entirely yet.

Don't spread misinformation. It was the actors who were specifically told not to play the games so they can have unique performances separate from the original. I don't see anything wrong with it, they're actors after all, why should they be trying to replicate someone else's performance when they can create their own take with the help of the directors?

They did know the source material though? Are you misinformed or just stupid?
