One of the most underrated games made by GTA's Rockstar was the warriors. They got a bunch of the original cast to return as voice actors. While it ends with the movie plot, what you get to see is how the warriors are formed and how their "heavy" reputation and turf is established. You also get more context about the other gangs and their leaders.

Trivia Factoid: Michael Beck, who played the main lead Swan, was also one of the leads in the movie Xanadu with Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelly. While The Warriors did only fair at the box office, it quickly became a cult classic which it has remained to this day. Xanadu, on the other hand, did better box office, but is looked at by a lot of people as kind of a joke in the decades since its release. Beck himself once said that “The Warriors opened a lot of doors for me, which Xanadu then closed.”

One night when they were filming a real gang show up. "Richard" took off running after them and chased them all off by himself. The Lizzies is code for lesbians. September 13, 2015 five of the surviving Warriors minus Richard and Mercy took one last subway ride home to Coney Island in Warriors vests to what amounted to a Warriors Con . They were of course recognized on the train 36 years later. There is video of it on KZbin. Rembrandt died in 1986.

That brings back a lot of memories. The movie was set starting out in the Bronx, not far from where I was living at the time it was released. And I knew many of those subway stations, in the Bronx and Manhattan on the No. 4, D and C subway lines. But it was scary when the movie first opened as you could always tell when it let out from the theater about a block away as you could here young guys calling out “Warriors! Come out to Playy-ayyy.” In my neighborhood, we occasionally saw the big Bronx gangs, like the Savage Skulls or Black Spades, but in my neighborhood, local Irish and Hispanic gangs started facing off over turf. It was a scary time when I moved out in 1979.

Just as a fun bit of trivia - at the end, part of the reason for Swan to say, "When we see the ocean, figure we're home" is because it mirrors one of the most important moments in the book that Sol Yurick based his book and, by extension, the film on - the *Anabasis* of Xenophon. When the Greeks finally reached the Black Sea after retreating from the center of Mesopotamia, Xenophon reports that they cried out, "Thalatta! Thalatta!" (lit. The sea! The sea!). It's a symbolic connection to the moment those in the original tale reached safety.

1. When this came out many of the larger cities didn't run it. They were afraid it would lead to gang violence. 2. Late 70s soundtrack. 🤩 3. My favorite character is Luther. He's f-ing nuts. 4. Skates may look cool, but would suck in a fight. 5. "Warriors, come out to play" was ad lib. The director told David Patrick Kelly to come up with something menacing, and he looked back to when he was a kid and a creepy old neighbor used to torment the kids. 6. NEVER take off your colors. If you do it's the same as not having them. 7. End it with Joe Walsh.🤩

David Patrick Kelly plays Luther (the main bad guy) in this movie. He's in many more movies but my favorite is that he plays T-Bird in The Crow, he's the one that gets incinerated in his car. Also David got the inspiration for "Warriors, come out and pla-ay!" from a school bully of his saying the same thing with his name. The bully would clink bottles together and repeat the phrase until David would start crying, which is why when David shouts the line in this movie he starts crying while screaming at the Warriors.

I'm glad y'all screened the original version of this film ... there is a director's re-cut which adds some additional (un-necessary) footage and the director used some really weird "screen-wipes" between scenes where it freezes the action and cartoon/comic-books the action on screen and then transitions. To me, it interrupts the flow of the story and makes the film feel less "real" (this original cut is actually harder to find nowadays as most DVD/BluRay versions are only the Director's Cut - much like Lucas' original Star Wars -films)

And yes 'The Warriors' was based on a Greek tale about a group of Greek warriors that got caught behind enemy lines. Additionally I believe a lot of the extras were actually gang members. P.S. Its hysterical that you keep blocking out Merci's body.

Growing up in Brooklyn in the 80's this movie was legendary. There was a period back in '83 when you couldn't walk two blocks without hearing somebody saying "Warriorrrrrrs, come out to plaaaayaaaaaay" 😂😂😂!

The Smokey the Bear poster is about forest fires. He had a slogan at the time, “Only you can prevent forest fires.” (That’s what “If not you, who?” comes from.) At the time a lot of campers were littering the state and national parks, and some of the garbage (like glass bottles when the sun shone on them) was starting fires accidentally. It was a campaign to get campers to litter the parks less.

Rockstar made a video game in 2005 on this. It served as an adaptation to the movie's story and mostly a prequel to it in a Beat em up style......it's great and one of my favourite games of all time. The had most of the cast reprise their roles through voice acting and brought back the soundtrack (with extra songs)

I like the way Fox’s death was shot, because before he gets hit by the train there’s flashing lights coming from below instead of ahead. Like the train was an afterthought in editing and he was actually killed by electrocution on the third rail. Brutal.

I remember watching this on VHS when I was a teenager in the early 80s. Loved it, and always remembered it as a low-budget thriller movie and nothing else. Re-watched it a couple of years ago and was pleasantly surprised how well it holds up.

Fun Fact: in earlier drafts Terry Michos aka Vermin was supposed to get shot and die by the Lizzies. The director liked Terry so much and found him funny that he ended up changing it so his character would live

40 years after the Warriors little train ride, they got back together to Celebrate The Movies Anniversary by putting their Colors back on and Retaking the ride again... This time without anyone looking for Blood (and without Deborah). In the 90's, Joe Bob Briggs was host of "Monstervision". While showing The Warriors, Joe pulled up a map and as the Movie Progressed, showed us the Possible Route they took.

1979 was a great year for director Walter Hill. Not just for The Warriors because he directed, but for another masterpiece. That was ALIEN because he was the producer and wrote the final draft of the script for the movie.

Great reaction! The director, Walter Hill, was also a producer for Alien (1979) with intention to also direct but declined after not entirely connecting with the material. Dan O'Bannon, who co-wrote Alien, said of this "Walter's a director of 'tough-guy pictures.'" -This movie is always my first thought whenever I hear that.

I love how the gang in the beginning has the courtesy to use actual change for the subway!..lol..They don't use slugs, or just hop over the turnstile..LOL.. A bit of trivia, Vermin was supposed to be killed by the Lizzies, but he was such a rich character they rewrote the scene. And if you notice the actress playing Mercy broke her arm as Swan jerked her around, hence why she is suddenly wearing his jacket, and its an adlib when she say tells him where she got the jacket. ...SUCKAS....CAN YOU DIG ITTTTT!!

I think the gang is a lot bigger than that. They were told only a certain amount could go to the big meeting. I think the rest of the gang stayed home and did their standard gang activities. That's why no one was there to greet them. Not only that, but it's possible that the rest of the gang had heard that their gang was being hunted so they were staying out of sight. This movie shows just how important visual style is to a movie. If they had done this same movie except with all the gang members looking like typical gang members, this movie would have been long forgotten. Instead it sticks in my mind enough that I have made up an explanation of why there aren't more Warriors there at the end.

So Simone likes the Punks because they wear overalls, and George likes the Boppers cause of their purple hats and style. The baseball furries are based on two concepts (Glam rock style and samurai warrior fighting style) The actor who plays Ajax plays Raiden in Mortal Kombat Annihilation (replacing the original actor of the first film). The reason Cleon was killed off was because of conflict with a schedule where the actor was set to be in another film. The reason why Rembrandt didn't mingle with the Lizzie's (the script made him an observer) was because the actor was gay. During the shooting of the film, real life gangs worked as security for the staff and crew.
