Goratha's POE2 Fireball Bloodmage - UPDATED AGAIN! Cast on Shock is INSANE on bosses?

Yet another patch, and even more changes to the build! Patch was mostly good for us, Frostwall visuals no longer bugged, wildshards seems better for clear, and the Cast on Shock swap seems really good for bossing.
The Fireball Blood Mage Archmage character has been popping off. I'll keep you guys updated if anything else changes, but this is the strongest version yet!

If anyone ever asks what to play on Blood Mage, I will link your videos because damn this build is good. I respecced back into it, it was easy to pick it up with gear I had from hexblast, just added the ring, the helmet and I can continue from the same map tier I stopped on. Absolutely amazing that you keep us updated on every patch and finding those mini-tweaks you can do to your build. What's amazing with this build is how it gets a lot of raw power from passives and gems. Mana cost is not a problem for builds that increase mana pool heavily, a lot of regen comes from manapool itself. And adding mana on kill games help to sustain on clears. With more levels I realised one more reason why developers re-balanced Cast on Freeze - it has increased energy gain with gem levels and on lvl 17 it's proccing really good with Impetus support gem. Thank you for amazing guides with good explanations and tips!

I’ve been using a similar fireball based build but as an infernalist. It is sooo fun to run this as demon form. The speedy movement that demon gets combos so well with room nuking skill rotation setup. I honestly am getting so spoiled by the demon mode dash that going back to any other character is gonna feel terrible lol.

@ I didn’t realize those were a thing, but I’ll buy some later to try em out. My biggest problem has been getting my resistances up since I’m already wearing 3 unique pieces (chest, ring, amulet) for minus max hp, so I’ll have to see if I can fit it in.

leveling this now and just a tip that helped me, for starters get arsonists, firewall, spark and the 3 items: Dark Defiler, Enfolding Dawn, Threaded Light (aprox. 3-5ish ex), I also have Midnight Braid for easy mana sustain, I breezed through act 1-2 faster than I noticed, will probably change soon, but the setup works for new caster chars like a charm

Annointing Split Shot with snakepit is completely insane since you can fork off of your walls. You can get the remaining 25% on emerald jewel together with some other good stats like Damage against rare/unique, Ele/Stun Threshold or just projetile damage

I really like the build even without archmage already, the only big issue I have so far is boss damage and visual clarity. It is bad to the point where I don't really do boss nodes now since I can't one shot them and I can't see the mechanics. Good to know CoS solves one of these issues.

Since the spirit requirement is really hard to hit without spending a lot of currency, might be worthwhile to mention that as an alternative you can get some spirit on a ventors gamble. It was really hard for me personally to come up with enough currency for a 25+ spirit helmet and an amulet with perfect 65 spirit so I opted to get the last bit I needed on a ventors, also gave some decent resists, 70 life and increased rarity and only cost 20ex. Seems like a good budget alternative

yeah i got lucky i had a good amulet drop with 46 spirit then spent 8 chaos orbs and 9 exalted and on my last chaos orb i got 50 spirit.. I was thinking it wouldve been atleast 30-50 chaos orbs to get that much spirit on my chest, but i just said fuck it and got extremely lucky

A unique +50 spirit on Oaksworn Sigil Crest Shield and any amulet with +40 spirit would also be a good choice for a low budget. Res can be closed on a ring and amulet. 1-3ex for the shield and 1-20ex for the amulet.

I have this build setup at level 84, with similar if not better gear than you are using, and yet I have less than half your skill damage? Same level skills, I have every talent in the guide. I cannot figure out where the missing damage is. Thanks heaps

I have to run a solar amulet with + spirit and a keth with + 50 spirit to hit 190 for grim feast. If you get a keth with 60, you might be able to run something else with a 30 roll on it

The spiral pattern let you circle bosses and hit them with over half of the fireballs, it was pretty nuts, but the delay from caused the spiral pattern definitely felt bad

Next patch I really hope they fix us blood mages losing our overflow health when we weapon swap. Really trying to use this cool feature but dropping my overflow makes it so stupid lol

this happens when your hp isnt the same when you swap, so just make sure your offhand has the same hp as your set 1

can you share your settings? on my 3060, lowest settings with wildshards the game just crashes, like 100% fps loss update: after some testing its raging spirits that cause the problem even on other builds with projectile multiplier

was about to comment. turn of raging spirits. forcing the server to produce a raging spirit everytime a projectile collides with anything in a build spraying them out, completely bricks the instance. didnt even feel like it was my computer lagging. felt more like the client telling me to fuck off for a couple of seconds while it figured out what was happening.

Thanks for the constant build updates, been following the guides and its working out great. I was wondering how you have so much more mana compared to last video, it doesnt seem like your gear has really changed and yet you gained like 700 mana. My gear is a bit worse (700 ES chest) and maybe like 250 less flat mana across all pieces and yet my max mana is only 1850. Wondering if maybe im missing something

Mostly tree optimizing and instilling mana blessing on the amulet. The %max mana nodes are really good, and I also get 4% int on the notables from against the darkness jewel. (%mana one would be even better though)

I am having an issue not igniting with Fireball/Flamewall after Blueflame gloves to proc the Echoing Flames node as said in the guide. I would assume Blueflame gloves are converting the added fire to cold but not doing the auto ignite for the base fire amount it says on the skill, nor does my Flamewall ignite enemies that pass through it. It might be more that you have added "EXTRA" fire damage on the wand allowing you to ignite again.

Same issue so the ignite part of the tree is not needed. Like you said Im guessing its the extra fire damage on the wand. Still worth to take the other two nodes as long as you swapped to archmage as far as i know.

Hey Goratha, thanks a lot for the build. I've been playing frost blood mage through frostbolt and ice nova until t15, and it feels so much better after switching to your build. I have a question regarding the shield, how do you feel swapping it to a focus with 100 spell damage + 80 cold damage with +2-+3 level of all skills gems and spell crit change + spell crit damage. Looking at fireball dmg in the tooltip, it gives almost twice as much damage compared to running a shield similar to what you have? Not as much life and survivability tho.

I dont know when/how/should i converse now to your newer videos build guides. im still on this tree from you: Goratha's Fireball Blood Mage COF nerf update im level 78 SSF and just into T7 Maps. Running double freeze setup and mapping is quite good (if i get enough maps, which is worst since yesterday). im playing SSF, so switching builds is very costful also with gearing. yesterday i got these fire convert gloves and im very happy about that, also beat the 3 lab finally. after that i was clearing much easier and faster. so thats why im asking, should i convert now to your newer builds with archmage? and the bossing cast on shock variant? what would you recommend? thank you PS: i dont have a jewel with life/mana on kill yet

Easiest way is to follow the maxroll leveling guide and then go into the endgame guide whenever you get a 400-500 es chest.

I won't wondering if it could be better to take Pure power as the annointment over mana blessing ? since we're dealing more lightning dmg than cold ? Or even going "manually" to pure power and annoit Wild storm ? If you have the currency at least, since these cost one nut each

What are your PC specs? How do you have the game's graphics settings configured? I've tested your build, and even though I have a pretty high-end PC, I get stable 144 FPS, but when I use the Fireball ability and things start proccing, the FPS drops drastically. It's really frustrating because it completely breaks the immersion. I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

dude I just switched to fireball+ice wall, it messes up my fps something fierce, I toned down the graphics but still it feels heavy, no problem with any other build, spark, summoner, corrupting cry

In your gameplay I noticed you had ES, but the guide shows eldritch battery. Would more mana regen from like clarity on life remnants be better for mana sustain than taking grim feast? I just don't fully understand how much grim feast is really helping, at least while also taking eldritch battery. Which is obviously good for archmage.

Would it be possible to fit in blink with a 15 spirit solar amulet + 30 spirit substat and a keth with a 50 spirit roll on it alongside the 30 spirit from the corruption? Ive noticed while farming rituals that some of the ritual spots on indoor maps can get me cornered due to unlucky mob spawns after seting up before starting the ritual.

I recommend weapon swapping to a sceptre and having blink on that, it was what I was doing personally. Just make sure you have the same amount of HP on both swaps. (it turns overflow off if it isn't the same)

I have a question. On ur older COF setups you had "Deep Freez" wich increases the freez duration but isnt that kinda useless or how does it work? Or does it increase the duration of the the boss if the Comet hits when it is alrdy frozen?

It's used for the heavy frost notable, not proccing more Comets. But yes you could replace it with something else if you want.

I havent done the swap yet but do we no longer go crit? I saw on the maxroll endgame guide that you only have 1 crit node in the tree, are we fine with little to no crit or does your character have a ton of crit elsewhere? Im concerned about the crit due to Sanguimancy pigeon-holing us into it in order to reliably drop life orbs especially during bossing. (I did see that you've allocated Vitality Siphon though so is the leech significantly better now that not dropping life orbs as often isn't an issue?)

Still get a few crit nodes, which is enough for the orbs, but yes it's less of a crit build now and more of an archmage build. And the leech definitely helps a ton.

Maybe i missed something, I got the gloves, I use the flame wall as well and the fireball, but it wont add ignite. the gloves also sais on the conversion that fire damage that is converted wont ignite.

I think ignites come from the actual firewall itself, if you put it bellow the mob he gets ignites!

PSA throwing on a shield charge gem makes getting around maps feel a lot better. You're already using a shield anyways. Give it a try trust me. It doesn't even need supports.

I like the idea of using a shield + septer on weapon set 2. So when weapon swapping to shield charge you can use 2 fast blinks, its pretty nice

Any tips on beating Zorakh for final points with this build? I do barely any dmg to him. Only got him to 70% Ran out of life flasks and my bloodmage died from using spells. Also using casting on shock not proccing enough for me. I put some points on shock in talent tree. But, still not doing as much dmg as you are on bosses.

Tried it yesterday, had a merchant mod that makes you invulnerable for 1 room. Still died cause of his slowing phase where he oneshots you. The trialmaster is kinda easier tho at this point

I kinda missed, how did you get the Against the Darkness jewel? It's practically impossible to find even a mid tier one, since the trade site doesn't have those mods to filter every thashy ones. Not really feeling like farming Zarokh for it. Without its life scaling the build is extremely squishy

Try font of blood+mana on frostwall, and vitality+clarity for sustain, this might help if your damage is a bit on the lower end. Also gain charges flasks can help a lot for longer fights too.

How is this build compares to a sorceress build? This doesn't necessarily make use of blood mage's crit oriented gameplay, and also can't go full in mana like a sorceress with MoM + CI + EI etc. So this build is less tanky and less damage than a normal sorceress? I am kinda fed up with my blood mage, so I was going to switch over to Sorceress but I would like to know if there is any hope left for blood mages

In poe2 it doesn't double convert, so if you have gain fire anywhere it won't convert to cold, also flame wall will still ignite. (and climate change node)

Cast on shock is quite a bit better, it's less spirit and more damage, and we're actually limited by mana already on cast on shock anyways. So it's proccing quite a bit.

how do you get your dps on your wall and fireball to 9k+? i have pretty simular gear stat wise to your guide but at lvl 78 and with 5 link lvl 20 skills my fireball is only 2,4k and wall 3,1k according to the tooltip.

it's just fork, fireball explodes when it ends, that's why you need frost wall for open maps

shock is based on damage dealt and %shock on jewels/tree, if your damage is low you might need some % shock to make up for it

How do I sustain my life for casting skills? My spells cost about 500-600 life per cast and I really have a struggle on bosses because of that. I scale a lot of gem levels from my gear and don't wanna lose that huge damage by deleveling skills

It is easier because arch mage + snakepit take care of pretty much anything. I just miss cast on freeze during breaches and rituals, but overvall its pretty ok to run just cast on shock all the time for convenience

CoF is better for mapping still. CoS is best for boss damage if you are cool with swapping.

There is a mapping portion (CoF) and a bossing portion (CoS) you should switch between the two if you are wanting to swap between them.

I don't understand why my cast on shock isn't casting comets. My archmage is on. My cast on shock is on with comet attached. I went into a t15 map chucking eye of winter at the boss the whole time until he died, not a single comet.

more shock chance / damage - shock is based on the damage of the hit, also you were using fireball still right?

@@Goratha Nah, it was eye of winter the whole time for the sake of testing. My gear is a bit better today with 2100 mana and it still isn't working. I may have to invest more into shock chance on the tree to get this to work. I have just the 30% chance to shock node from the starter area with sorc.

looks insane but really strugging to see the value in taking bloodmage. Isn't this just a weaker stormweaver? You can get higher mana numbers on stormweaver pretty easily and get like 10k+ ES. Or alternatively go int stacker gemling if you want to be special. But bloodmage really doesn't seem to fit in here

Sure, but if you want to play with bloodmage, you obviously can't play with stormweaver, can you? Not trying to throw shade, but not everyone wants to play around with Stormweaver, even if it's stronger. Some people like exploring other options and pushing them as far as possible instead of copying what everyone else is doing. If you're just concerned about what is the "minmax" then go look up stormweaver builds instead of bloodmage ones.

Ignite is based on fire damage dealt, or in the case of Flame Wall, that will always ignite.

levels matter a lot, 13 levels is a LOT of damage tbh, also in combat stats like rising tempest/arcane surge/ele dmg procs
