All Pensioners should make sure they have enough to eat and keep themselves warm. When their energy bills arrive, pay what you can afford. Write to your energy provider and explain why they’ve done that and send a copy to their MP. You won’t be cut off or taken to court…no energy provider would dare to that

A bigger worry for single pensioners is the 25% council tax reduction on single occupancy. Doing away with that AND the cold weather payment could result in a total deficit of £1000 per annum more for many pensioners.

I remember Gordon Brown well, in his first Budget took away the tax credits from all pensions both company and personal. He sold all our gold reserves and made the pound very vulnerable and his final expert financial move was the credit crisis in which he and Blair were totally complicit, they lowered interest rates made credit easily available put people in debt so they could spend the tax revenue on vanity projects that all failed, that includes the Iraq war. Ken Clark and Norman Lamont were in another league and were excellent in their jobs, even John Major was a better chancellor and he was very average.
