Gordon Goes Foreign

Whew! Here we are again. Another story that I have done before in the past, but decided to take it one step further. (Premieres don't show the length, but this video is the longest one I have done so far at 16 minutes, and for good reason as you will see.)
Now this one had it's own story behind it, one I may cover very soon in a behind-the-scenes video that will also show how I do things. This video was one where I tried out some new tools (Such as Riley's lighting tools, which are available on his Patreon.) and some tricks up my sleeve in certain shots. Oh yeah, and there's a surprise somewhere in the video, one that in at least one shot is very noticeable. (More on this in the making-of video.)

The funniest part is that St Pancras station is literally right next to King's Cross, so Gordon was basically no more than a few hundred meters away from his old LNER station without ever knowing!

This was so terrific! The beginning and intro, the voices, the music and the shots! The shots were amazing and the models! And that derailment scene was awesome. I also liked duck's shocked face at the end. This was one of the best remakes I ever watched. So fantastic!

This is just amazing. I loved the touch of using real-life sound effects. The score made it sound like an old black and white movie of the time period in which this story is set. It felt very epic. Definitely the best adaptation I’ve ever seen of this classic story. I think the good reverend would be very proud.

Excellent work! Wasn't expecting Murdock to take the Express at the beginning. The tipping over of Isle of Man was well done; makes sense as to why "nothing else can come in or out". And Duck's speechless face during the end credits fits perfectly with Gordon's downcast expression. Perhaps you can do a whole video on _Gordon the High-Speed Engine_ next time. Give us a look at all of Gordon's efforts in one book.

At 3:30 - 4:09 I have just noticed that all 3 engines are right in their own way (in their railway, to be exact). All 3 stations are London terminal stations for each railway they were working/used to work. King’s Cross = GNR/LNER terminus, so it does make sense for Gordon to say that since he’s Gresley A1 Euston = LMS terminus, and that big city is LMS Patriot so it’s not surprise that he’ll be remembering that. Paddington = GWR terminus, so Duck would surely say so. BTW You did an outstanding job with this one. The opening, the camera angle, the soundtrack, these are astonishing. The way you do camera and sound makes those engines feel so massive and powerful which is what Railway Series and early Model series always portrays (same thing cannot be said for late CGI).

The irony of this whole story? All three of them were correct. London has multiple major rail stations - King's Cross being the primary hub, London Euston being the north terminal and London Paddington over by by Bayswater, as well as several others including St. Pancreas. The city is a spaghetti bowl of rail.

Indeed, it's because back when they were building the railway network every rail company in the UK wanted a terminus in London, and none of them would share so they ALL built their own. Duck thought it was Paddington because he was a G.W.R. engine and Paddington was the G.W.R.'s London terminus. Gordon came from the L.N.E.R. and King's cross was their station in London as part of the East coast main line. The visiting engine that started all this was a former L.M.S. engine. Working on the west coast main line, so of course his London station was Euston. If they'd had a Southern railway engine there they'd have probably said Waterloo.

What an amazing recreation, of one of the stories from The Railway Series, regarded to be one of the best for Gordon! Love those montages of a train's journey, with little dialogue! And interesting to have engines from Thomas & Friends in it too. Oh, yeah, also cool how you had the Other Engine derail.

Had a dream where I was a Steam Loco Driver, my fireman was getting a roaring fire to ensure we had a good head of steam. Looking back at the coaches for the Conductor. He signaled we were good to go. With a blast from the whistle we were on our way. The run was going smoothly when the backup driver came up to relieve me. Ended abruptly there.

Oh my goodness. You used Star Trek voyage movie music in there. Two of my favourite fandoms together. It made me smile so much. What a wonderful version of this story. There was only one thing I didn’t like so much and that was the faces used on the engines such as Murdoch. I personally found the 3D rendering a bit creepy. However, that didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment of the video. Well done. It’s easy to see how much hard work you put in to this.

Gordon's train would probably have travelled via the Carnforth to Leeds line through Settle Junction and Skipton and then the Midland Main Line via Sheffield, Derby & Leicester to London St. Pancras. The real life Thames-Clyde Express ran via the Settle & Carlisle line & Leeds then the Midland Main Line to St. Pancras.

Love the creative process of going into this episode with the amazing chose of music, the characters, the animation and detail around the island. But there was something that took me away from the episode and it was "Filler." The issue of filler in this episode was that the filler felt like it didnt need to be there which it's why its mostly bad. For example, the episode kinda felt slow to get to point A to Point B. But hey, I'm not disliking the video or anything, I actually enjoy it but its just filler of the episode kinda took away the episode.
