Missing both Gordon and Johnny two of the Twentieth Century's greatest musicians and singers!

Don't forget Gordon's SUPER rhythm playing on that 12 string. He was a good picker, too!

I remember when this aired. I'm 63 and was a kid but my dad watched Johnny's show every week when it was on and I remember him saying that was a good song and he went out and picked up Gordon's record after that show. Dad loved his music. He was in a band back in the day and it's where I got my love for it I reckon. Lucky for me my uncle owned a trucking company that drove for some companies out of Nashville and actually hauled vinyl albums. So a few of them might have found their way into my dad's collection :) I grew up singing songs like Muleskinner blues and Rock Island Line. Man it was a different world back then. No mobile phones, no internet, no cable tv, Heck we didn't have a color tv until I was 11. We could only imagine having the world's entire music collection at our fingertips. Ready to listen to whenever we wanted in amazing quality. So seeing it performed on tv was a great moment to remember. I miss variety shows.

To get an intro from JCash says it all ! Gordy is one of the best ever to pull a guitar up and write songs ! Testimony to him as the best ever from Canada 🇨🇦

I'm a Marty Robbins fan too, and he deserved to have the hit, but I love Lightfoot just as much. Give the Man in Black credit; he introduced country fans to some of the greatest artists ever on ABC. No surprise that he had Gord, because nobody ever sounded, played or wrote like him and nobody ever will. O Canada! We stand by Gord for thee!

Gord wrote the song (along with 400+ others) - so, yeah - Marty could have one - as long as Lightfoot gets the credit he deserves.

Wow - he had looks to match that beautiful voice! And such expressive eyes. Love this version, as well as the one by Marty Robbins.

I never bore or tire of Gordon Lightfoots music. I wore out cassettes listening to him. His music is timeless.

Yes - our Gord was a handsome man, for sure . . . he really had it all - voice, poetry, music - and such a handsome, humble and self-effacing guy.

Anyone who says Marty did it better: Marty never would have done it at all if Gordon never wrote it.
@FrankNStein-pf9rr3 жыл бұрын
Gordon wrote the song for Marty & sent it to him. I was in Marty's Office the day it came in. Marty owned 2 buildings at the time on 18th Av. South, Nashville.

Being the person who WROTE a song, does NOT mean THEIR original version is BEST! Marty Robbins DID record a better version. Glen Campbell took "The Last Time I Saw Her" to PERFECTION! This is NOT taking anything from Gordon's genius lyrics. There were others who recorded "Early Morning Rain", creating better versions and, you can be sure, enriching Gordon.
