Not only that, but Marty released the single a year before Lightfoot's first album was released, so Marty was among the first to introduce the world to a talented songwriter

@@FrankNStein-pf9rr Wow great memory. I guess you have heard by now? Sadly, Gordon Lightfoot, passed away lastnight in Toronto Canada on May 1st 2023 at Sunnybrook Hospital. I've been in bits ever since my son told me the news lastnight at 10:23. Thanks for sharing this true story about this song. May Our beloved Gordon Lightfoot rest in Peace and Love knowing he touched us all very deeply with is lyrics! That his music will live on forever! We are so proud of him in Canada, that he never left to seek fame, he got it and stayed right here living in Toronto!. 84 years was a pretty good run too! CBC free streaming service GEM, has a fabulous documentary about Gordon, done a couple of years ago. It's full of lots of great stories by Gordon and the many people he knew and played with over the years. Great soundtrack too. Thanks again. Peace be with you. ❤🇨🇦🎼🎸🎶🙏🏻⚘

I was a bit surprised when I learned that this song was written by Gordon Lightfoot. Then again, I probably shouldn't have been. His songs have been covered by so many artists ... Marty being just one.
