I think that a 45% saving success rate is really good. I think people forget that no matter how much help Gordon Ramsey gives the business, It's down to the owners and staff to make it a success and keep it alive. Gordon can only do so much so seeing that he's actually making an impact with some businesses is really good to see.
@JuriAmari13 күн бұрын
I agree. Most of the spots appearing in Kitchen Nightmares or Hotel Hell are at the end of their rope so the odds were very much against them. There may be a bit of a Barbra Streisand effect with Ramsay’s presence (mostly in terms of past/already fixed problems) but a lot of the time the success is down to the owners and maintaining traffic.
@ravenm644312 күн бұрын
I agree. The hotel industry is really difficult to recover when things go really bad. 45% is high considering. Without him, they would have all failed.
@Murder.Of.Crows.12 күн бұрын
Agreed. Plus, the success rate people post don't include why. Idk the breakdown for this one, but for kitchen nightmares there are a few resturants that were saved but closed due to the owner's health issues. Even though it was a success, it is still counted as a 'fail' for the show by the people who write the success rate because it closed.

Sometimes the restaurants were rented and after the success and publicity their lease was suddenly ended. Happened a few times and was really sad.
@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.991710 күн бұрын
@@Matilda-y On the other side, some of the restaurant owners had no intention of changing and just sold the restaurant when it appeared on the show. The ones I find interesting are the ones that have a history online before the show made them famous. Amy's Baking Company had a long history online of people trolling them that never gets brought up by people making videos about the episode, and the Cafe Hon restaurant had a bunch of blogs talking about drama before Gordon stepped in that are worth a read because the drama was barely even touched on in the episode, with the case of Cafe Hon now being taught in universities.

@@Lisianthusbloomin my experience working for small business owners there seems to be two types. Those passionate about what they do and take care of their customers and employees. The other type build up the business so that they can sell it or to they can milk it for all they can. Obviously this is an over generalization, but everyone I have worked for really do fit in those two groups. It’s maddening. When I worked in accounting, the amount of “business” items purchased that never made it to the office were absolutely gross. One business furnished the president’s home and even bought his underwear. Yes. I processed the expense report and couldn’t find the decor anywhere in the office. American here: It is legal to pay servers $2.?? An hour because it is assumed you will get tips to make up for the left over to reach $7.25/hr. Also, last i checked (which was years ago) the poverty line was around the early 20 thousands a year. Like. I honestly don't know how she lives. On $6,000 a year. I know this is old, but even in 2000s money, $6,000 annually was nothing
@luminescent_tides14 күн бұрын
I waited tables for about 6 years , stopped in 2003 and made $2.13 an hour. We absolutely relied 100% on our tips. It’s insanity that the rate today for servers, I’m 99% sure is STILL $2.13/hr??!?! How has this not advanced in 20 years???
@Im_Aware_I_Know14 күн бұрын
@luminescent_tides to clarify, I'm not a server, but my mom was until 2018, so thats where my info comes from. It is obsurd that it hasn't changed. And unbelievable as a concept. @francescastevens812714 күн бұрын
That’s so insane!! In the UK you HAVE to be paid minimum wage based of your age (average £12.20 for anyone over 21 and £10 for anyone between 18 and 20) PLUS tips. We do tip here but tipping culture is nowhere near what American tipping culture is. USA use tipping culture as an excuse not to properly pay their employees
@Im_Aware_I_Know14 күн бұрын
@francescastevens8127 btw, as far as i know, only servers and interns are legally allowed to be paid under minimum wage. And I think the intern thing is super f-'ed, but idk how to change that nor does my field condone it. One of my favourite episodes of Hotel Hell is Hotel Chester (S02E04). It's not a big dramatic one, its sad but also wholesome and the only video from Gordon Ramsey that has made me cry. It's literally just a couple hitting bad times and wanting help and are ready to apply that help. It's also one of the few hotels that remains open. But my next favourite if I want drama is the next episode, Calumet Inn. Spoilt brats playing hotel owners and unfortunately people work for them. Same mentality as Robert with the 'you're lucky to work here' but arguably more so.

"If you don't like it, go work somewhere else" is one of the shittiest things a person can say. When I was 21, I worked in a restaurant and a bar, both of which allowed smoking. I have asthma and allergies and got sinus infections pretty much constantly because of it, so when the smoking ban took effect, I was ecstatic. So many people complained constantly about it, and when I said that some of us have health issues and shouldn't be forced to breath smoke all day and all night, they all said, then go work somewhere else. WHERE?? My only work experience was in restaurants and bars. Before the ban, only nicer restaurants were entirely non-smoking, and I didn't have enough connections to get a job like that. What bar is going to tell people not to smoke?? It would be empty. So yeah, this dude telling his staff that if they don't like it, they can go somewhere else pisses me off to no end.

Three dinning rooms in one hotel is odd, but I suppose it depends on what they serve, if it's the same menu for each dining room then that's weird, but if it's a separate menu for each room that makes more sense, because then it's like three different restaurants within the hotel. The hotel my husband worked at years ago had three, one was a bar restaurant that served standard pub grub and was open from 10am until 11pm, then there was an alacarte restaurant, which was a bit more pretentious, they didn't open until 5pm, then they had the tea rooms that served breakfasts, afternoon tea and light bites and they closed at 4.30pm.

Then the husband got hurt or sick so the wife took over everything. Thats when it started to go down. They were overwhelmed, living in a closet essentially in the hotel. Gordon rented them an apartment for a whole year i believe? And covered the new chefs salary for 6 months to help them. They had no trouble accepting help, they got dealt something unexpected and horrible which caused the husband's health to become #1 and the hotel #2. Gordon came in and gave them the break AND pick me up they desperately needed.

People who just say oh just quit and find another job.... it's really not easy... I have been looking for months for work and everything I look at is entry level or aligned with my previous experience and skills. I must have applied so far in the last 6 months to over 30 jobs and only got 3 interviews. So no, leaving work for a new one is not always easy... at least each week he is still making 400 before taxes... that is better than 0

This is one of my favorite series! Please cover more episodes, it'd be so fun to see your reaction and all the owners in denial😂

That restaurant guy reminds me of a character from Kids In The Hall! That one character who always acted so smart and cool but was actually a total dork 😂 Same hairstyle, same glasses and such a close accent it’s like he’s doing an impression of the show 😝🤪😉

Why would there be a pool at a British restaurant? You have to wait an hour to go in anyway 😂

Hotel Hell is incredible and there are some WILD episodes. Please do more like the bizarro camp cabin with the dad growing weed and ignoring the place out back.

2:50 To be fair, he could be named after another Robert Dean that isn't his father (uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, etc.).
