Some facts about Julia Child: During WWII, she served as a spy in the OSS and helped in the defeat of the Axis Powers, she was also an accomplished chemist and the first woman to graduate Le Courdon Bleu and yes she was a bit of a see you next Tuesday, in her lifetime she could make or break a chef with just one word.

I appreciate someone giving Gordon his due in this battle. He actually kept it on topic and made some profession related bars and changed it up. I feel like Julia's verses were fun but kept harping on about how he's mean and she isn't. Which is a point that falls through if you watch some of his non hell's kitchen/ kitchen nightmares content were he doesn't play that persona as much.
@sentinel76724 жыл бұрын
If memory serves the angry, screaming Gordon Ramsay is a persona even Gordon Ramsay himself admitted he hates and has wanted to drop for quite some time. It's not that Ramsay enjoys being a cruel, abusive asshole, it's what the *networks* want him to be and he has to go along with it. I could be wrong, though.

I'm so so so glad that someone felt this way about the battle other than me. Almost all reactions to this battle have been eager to give Julia the win, almost always based on that last and, frankly, really weak closing bar. It annoyed me how many people were praising Julia's side when she did little more than hit on the same 2 or 3 points over and over again. I also feel that Gordon had a better overall flow to his side whereas the change in pace between Julia's bars was more rough and awkward.
@CouchSpud914 жыл бұрын
@@sentinel7672 Yeah, he was okay with it at first, but I think he's gotten tired of it. Now he ONLY uses that persona for Hell's Kitchen and even then I think he's really turned it down in the recent seasons. The only time Gordon gets as angry as he does outside of HK is when someone is legitimately neglectful with their food service, and even then he has a bit of leniency....unless your food is dangerous for people to eat. At that point god help you from his wrath.

Fun fact about Michelin stars that doesn't seem _super_ well known; it's the same Michelin company that makes tires. As a promotional thing way back in the day, when the idea of long-distance driving was first becoming popular, Michelin would advertise reasons to travel (and therefore buy their tires), and one of the ways they did it was by giving their award to what they considered the best restaurants, to incentivize people to travel there. It's weird but it like, kinda stuck around and now a tire company's rating is one of the most prestigious awards in the culinary world. Earth is weird.

@xXxJason_ToddxXx4 жыл бұрын
I completely agree that Ramsay won, for a simple reason: Julie Child was incorrect about Gordon. You can tell ERB did their research on both people, but I highly doubt they watch Gordon Ramsay's shows personally, otherwise they would know that he's NOT actually an asshole 100% of the time. If you've seen MasterChef kitchen you know he's actually a pretty nice guy when he wants to be. The moments of him being an asshole are warranted - he's critiquing and trying to help people who, more often than not, are full grown adults with supposed chef credentials, either mistreating their staff or customers or disregarding basic health and safety protocols. He gets pissed at people who should know better, but instead they call him up expecting him to 'fix' their business without ever criticizing them, and try to act superior because they're irritated a more experienced dude is telling them they suck. But he has genuinely good moments towards people who show a willingness to learn or didn't do anything wrong. Like the time a waitress told him the whole staff were made to give all their tips to the owners, and he tipped her generously and told her not to give it to the owner. Or the time a blind contestant on his show made a bomb dish and, because she obviously couldn't see it, he described how it looked and tasted to her while praising the dish. Whereas Julia Child was actually kind of a bitch IRL. Towards the end of her life a girl named Julie Powell who was just starting out and idolized her, started a blog about trying to make every single one of Child's recipes in one year and was super proud of it, and Child made comments about how she wasn't a real/serious cook. There was a whole movie made about the blog (the first movie ever made about a blog, actually) called Julie & Julia and they covered it too. Julia Child was known for being dismissive and disrespectful to people who didn't meet her standards, whereas she acted sweet on her show for her audience. TLDR; Gordon Ramsay is a boss, Julia Child's irritating ass voice still chews away at my last nerve even though I left high school cooking class 5 years ago. Edit, here’s a link to Gordon being a genuinely Good Dude™️ over a blind chef’s apple pie: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJKwq2uuYrJkkNU

ERB isn't 100% accurate as sometimes they leave things superficial letting the image of a character dictate the bars instead of the real person, the biggest case is when they talked about Poe perving on his cousin. While he indeed married his 13 years old cousin he didn't perv on her but it's something an outside observer could use as an attack. Gordon gained fame by being an asshole in his shows and used that in the battle, if we were talking about accurate stuff in this battle "mastering the art of heart disease" would go against the current indications that fat by itself isn't as much as a culprit as sugar.
@dannythyscrivener4 жыл бұрын
I'd argue that in this battle, considering that Julia was a bit of a la verge, Gordon is personified good since he as you think that Julia is frankly overrated, a glorified translator and a pain in the [BUTT STUFF], and enabling his angry personality that you mention was triggered by exactly what Julia was, a 'full-grown adult with supposed chef credentials, either mistreating their staff or customers.' Now I'm interested and am going to learn more. Thanks, man!

I thought the Big Bird reference was for Julia Child's height, 6'2" or 188cm She was a tall woman. The Miss Piggy line was probably because of her rather rotund size--Gordon was taking aim at all her sizes. Maybe looks too, but in the Muppet world, wasn't Miss Piggy attractive? The audience might have felt differently, but I don't recall the muppets ever thinking that she was unattractive, but maybe I'm forgetting something. I recall their issues with her was how she looked down on them and bossed them around=/ Oh, Julia's voice was similar to what we hear here. You should look her up on KZbin. It might sound odd at first, but after a while, it starts to grow on you like Bob Ross, lol. Those are two voices that I don't think I'll ever forget. They're that rememberable and rather soothing.

I picked Julia Childs as the winner of this battle. I watched her as a child growing up. And yes, she sounded like that. She was mainly agent (spy) working for what we now call the CIA today. This was during WW2 time period. She worked and lived in France for some time. Her bars cut deeper into Gordon Ramsey the way Julia was when she did not lose her cool under his insults. The France words may have threw people off a bit. I think Gordon himself think she beat him in this battle. And yes, she sounded like that when she was alive with a France accent.

I don't think ERB intended this, but the "I rock as hard as concrete on top of these bomb beats" line could be interpreted as a reference to the Blizzard-like ice-cream food from the fast food place Culvers. That place basically ripped off Dairy Queen's Blizzards and named them Concretes. Like I said though I don't think ERB intended that as if they did, concrete would of probably been capitalized in the subtitles. Just some...food for thought.... I'll see myself out.
