Love the sounds you get out of that guitar. I also have a Gordon Smith guitar, a GS1 in Mahogany, bought in 1987...

Thanks for the vid :-) Bought my GS2 new back in 1985 - and also have a couple of Classic-S's with different pick-up configurations. All of them have been great gigging workhorses and - as you just demonstrated - provide a wide range of tones.

Alaister Gemmill thanks for the comment & and taking the time to watch. Not sure if you've seen my other videos of my GS1 project? Do love a Gordon smith, nearly purchased another from eBay the other day.

As a GS owner myself it's always good to see GS videos on youtube. Just thought I would mention, I have a GS 2 since about 1992 and it's always been a solid workhorse. Only this year I had a thought "what would it sound like with "better" pickups". The stock pickups are fine, but I was just curious. I have had them fitted with Seymour Duncans Pro 2's. It's a different animal now - a hell of a lot more expressive with overdrive - not as trebly, but my god the harmonics and sustain is just beautiful. If you are happy with the sound then fair enough.

Mike Donovan hi, cheers for the comment! I have thought the same, possibly change out the pickups. The stock ones are very, very bright indeed. I have another video showing a GS1 I picked up cheap and put in a Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell & a bass contour pit.

I would bet if you did change the pickups with an industry standard like Seymour Duncan or Gibson etc you'll be very happy with the result. Also I remember now, the stock humbuckers were a little noisy to be honest, but with the Alnico Pro 2's - quiet as a mouse when not playing through overdrive. Good luck with that of you decide to change pickups.

Have you got a video up of it?
@mikedonovan47687 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don't really post videos. I know you may be a bit curious on how they sound, but trust me with the alnico pro 2's it's the business.

Mike Donovan yeah, I've heard they're great pickups. I have a Seymour JB and Custom in another guitar.

It looks like you have a Gotoh bridge on it. Not original I think. I tried mine with a Gotoh 510 but could not get the intonation correct.

I believe this bridge was an eBay find. Can't remember what make or model

Dominik Kvocka it's a Blackstar HT Studio 20 head in to a Zilla 2x12 cab with celestion creamback and vintage 30. I have other videos showing my pedal board which may highlight the sound you like.
