This is such a beautiful video, and perfectly encapsulate the British way of doing things. No flashy equipment or graphics, just a "make do" attitude with things held together with string and newspaper, turning out beautiful instruments. Perfect.

Made our guitars in 1978 and used to this day! Chris Smith was our Sound Engineer 1978 - 80 what a great guy.

Love this. Made in England by a family run business and one that is passionate about what they do. Just how it was and how it should be. Brilliant guitars too. I've had Fenders and Gibsons and this beats the lot. 100%.

Gordon SMith guitars are now owned by Doug from Auden guitars and the quality has gone into another stratosphere . I have supported Gordon SMith guitars for over 20 years now and what Doug has done to this brand is just unbelievable. Hand made instruments at the cost of mass production guitars from overseas? Yet the quality is literally boutique. Everything from S & T styles to the G style guitars - you name it - nothing is impossible for them. Its the most exciting period in their 30+ year history and I am so proud to represent them.

I bought a G-60 Slimline in 1995 and it's a superb guitar that I never get tired of playing and looking at as it is so beautiful! That is the Hammy Hamster them tune he's playing! What a humble bunch, you'd never think they made these amazing axes!

Great to see where my 1982 GS1 was made. Steve Murray of Fast Cars introduced me to these great guitars back in the early 80s. Cost me 160 quid back then, still going strong now.

I first met John, Lynda and Chris during the 80's when they made me a custom Gypsy III in his garden workshop. This was the second electric guitar that I owned up until then as my first heavily customised guitar had been played into oblivion and I was desperate for something that would measure up. I now own about a dozen different select guitars as I've been a perfomer over 35 years. These guitars are really good, but it's my Gordon Smith Gypsy III that goes on stage as my chosen No1 instrument.

I was lucky enough to get a custom guitar made by them in 2010. I went to their workshop to pick it up. It's my favourite electric - not just because of how it sounds, but because it's so personal to me and it's one of a kind :D

I have a Gypsy with bridge humbucker and two single-coils. Stock pickups. Tremendously versatile range of tones and even sounds great DI'd into the DAW. My go-to for recording and live.

I recently acquired a Gordon Smith C-60 made in the 70's... It was like playing a guitar for the very first time. And that was before I plugged it in. Unique guitar! Infinitely playable....

Gordon Smith's can be a mixed bag in terms of QC or just that the necks feel 'different' to many typical guitars. The basic models also look a bit agricultural, like something you might make on one of those 'build your own guitar in a weekend' courses some luthiers run. BUT they really draw you in. Usually much lighter than many guitars, and often with coil taps to allow you to get decent single coil sounds, when set up they are great gigging tools. The sound is in the Les Paul Jr to SG territory, the brass nut is a quirk that gives it a little extra zing, so your Gordon Smith usually stands out against your ordinary strats, teles and Les Pauls.

my early 90's GS2 is the best electric guitar I've owned and play, wouldn't touch any other guitar, its got a unique tone to it. Great to see where it was made.
@hammondsphoto8 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Mine's a mid-80s and it's the kind of guitar that just grows on you and ends up getting used more and more. I'd quite like a single p90 GS too for the ultimate in stripped down pure guitar.

My G-60 slimline was my first real guitar, I bought it about 16 years ago (when I was only 14!). The guitar got me through tough years, I've played on it for thousands of hours and it is my most treasured possesion. It was made in March 1996, so had its 20th birthday recently. Still plays amazing and sounds better than PRS, and comparable to my Gibson SG Supreme and US Strat (I did upgrade the pickups to seymour duncans). I hope the Smiths a happy retirement, and you can chill out knowing you brought a lot of joy to the world :)

Great vid, a treat to see such nice folk I had the pleasure of dealing with when I bought my gs1 about ten years ago! I got a jazzmaster,strat,gibson custom as well but play the gordon smith most, it's just so comfortable and the low action makes me play better, best £400 I've spent, great for learning on as well, I wouldn't normally buy a guitar I hadn't tried out first but did with this, go treat yourself!

I had a GS1, largely because it was UK-made and cheap as chips, but I was too young too appreciate it at the time and assumed I needed 2 or 3 pickups to go with my millions of FX. I have an 80s GS2 now, which is great, but would quite like a single p90 GS for the ultimate in no-frills thrills.

I bought a brand new GS 2 from a shop in Denmark St. London back in the day for less than £200. I had an American Tele, 78 Strat and a Les Paul Custom at the time - the Gordon Smith was in no way out of its league when compared with these guitars. Compared very favourably in every way.
