Really great looking project, Gordon. If you can't find a dip bowl like you want, turn one. It would be far better than one you could buy and it would finish off as a set. Thanks for sharing and happy new year.

David Clauson Thanks, David. I'd like to use a glass bowl because of the washing involved but now you have me thinking it might be a good idea to make a matching Maple bowl. If it was rinsed properly it should last a long time and I could always make more. Thanks for the idea; I will see what the BOSS says. Thanks again for watching.

A good salad bowl finish or the olive oil finish. Wash and reapply a light coat. Should be good for years. Thanks

Looks like it could work for a 'vegie' tray, too. Thanks for the video, I plan on making on in cherry.

Very nice piece Gordon. Good luck convincing your wife, it doesn't seem to work in this house. Check with a cooking supply store for that shallower bowl. They sell them for preparing ingredients. Thats where I got my set. Thanks for sharing. Fred

I love this idea Gord. I have an 11" round that I planned to use for a tray, but, at less than 2" thick it would otherwise be too thin for a "regular" dip bowl. I believe +David Clauson's idea of a turned bowl insert would be the answer to my dilemma. Thanks for a great video!

Hey Gordon you did a great job here. I've turned several of these with great response from the receivers of the gift. I've had some problems with warpage in my last two...I think it was due to the hard knots that were included. No major problem though as it doesn't affect the amount of chips it can hold!

Nice tray Gord. I did a smaller one out of a piece of walnut crotch I was given. Not as deep or as large as I would have liked but I haven't found a good wood stretcher yet. Oh and veggies are ok providing they are deep fried or chocolate covered.

Nice job, Gordon. I am a novice turner and an wondering about your olive oil finish. Does olive oil need to be reapplied periodically? Does it ever turn rancid like a vegetable oil will? Thanks for sharing your talents. John
@GordonRock1
@GordonRock1 9 жыл бұрын
John Emmett Glad you liked it, John. Olive oil needs to be replenished just like any other oil. I've never had a problem with it turning rancid. I've heard of people saying it will but it's always second hand information; always happened to someone else, never to them. Can't guarantee anything, just my own personal experience. .....Gord

Gordon Rock I had olive oil used to finish a cutting board go rancid. For this reason, I prefer a curing oil, such as walnut oil, for use as a finish.

I’m not sure where I will get more when I run out of them. Sorry I’m no help in locating them for you! Take care, .....Gord
