On THIS particular model when you push on the clutch/brake cable the washers/rollers on the opposite end of the brake pad on arm (that's inside the clutch hub) engages the back surface of the yoke, this transfers or shifts the angle of the brake lever INTO the inside diameter of the clutch wheel.

I just bought a old snapper riding mower for 35 bucks took 2 weeks to get it running but I got it running. There are very little brakes I will check to see if there is a pad there tomorrow I did cut the grass today and it cut better than the one I have been using.

hello there Goregoon... I came here via searching brake cable for Snapper.. On my Snapper there are 2 brake cables.. The main brake cable goes through the tube is fine, but the cable that goes loop de loop under the box is busted.. along with missing pieces.. I'm off hunting for parts.. LOL.. Have a good one

Here is my question- I just recently replaced the friction wheel and resurfaced the "mainwheel" from the motor.The aux drum brake was just about worn away so I replaced the friction/drum brake which works great but when I tighten the aux band It locks down and dang near burns the friction wheel until I back the nut off-

I have upgraded my old snapper to the newer smooth start clutch but these older brakes are too large for the new assembly. Just curious if anyone has done this and how they got the brake to work.

I have a snapper Yard cruiser HZS18483BVE and I am trying to find help with the Crankshaft to Clutch belt routing. It appears to be working normally until I hit heavy grass then the blades quit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Goregoon, I recently acquired an older Snapper RER of approximately the same vintage as your video. By chance does the clutch cable have a loop on one end and the ferrels on the other? If so do you know the model number? My Snapper has data plate. Thank you Chuck
@Goregoonswasteofspace5 жыл бұрын
Hello Chuck. Both cables have nubbs/ferrels (or whatever they are called) on both ends. I don't know the model number off hand, I took the sticker off and I'll be damned if I know where it is at the moment. Sad part is, I actually came across it a couple months back. I'll let you know if I have any luck. I have some paperwork on it somewhere as well that may have a model. Thanks for dropping by.

Just did an update today, I haven't been doing much on it lately. Heh heh heh, well... it won't be FULLY re-furbished but there will be a helluva big difference in the before and after shots! :c)

I have a 2005 Snapper 421823BVE, looking for directions on how to correct the belt, as it seems too loose when blades are engaged, and jumps off sometimes even. Thinking that if I could adjust the tightness of the belt when engaged, it may turn the blades more efficiently, etc.?
@Goregoonswasteofspace9 жыл бұрын
+Steven Coderre In general the tension should be taken in by the idler pulley. The cheapest easiest fix would be to remove the belt, take it with you and get a size or two smaller depending on how much slack you have. Unless maybe the spring is off or something on the idler that should do the trick. Check also to see if the belt guards are all in place and nothing is missing.
@Goregoonswasteofspace9 жыл бұрын
+Steven Coderre Also when it comes to the belt, maybe it is just old and tired and needs to just be replaced same size?
@stevencoderre84079 жыл бұрын
Well, the guy I purchased this from a few months ago told me he had the belt replaced twice in the last year, by the same shop, because it did same thing to him, but the second replacement, still same issue? I am wondering if they put the wrong belts on both times...dunno. It is not too bad, but does come off pulleys now & then.
@stevencoderre84079 жыл бұрын
I guess I will order a new belt direct via mail and see what happens. Thanks Goregon !!!

How can I replace that cable. the welded end at the brake broke and I cant change gears or use the brake
@NICKELS10188 жыл бұрын
i just got snapper that stopped moving when i was almost done mowing with it for the first time. replaced the drive disk and still won't move. i can roll it freely even when in gear. any ideas what that could be?
@Goregoonswasteofspace8 жыл бұрын
Sounds to me like you have no tension on the driven wheel (the little one with the rubber ring). Perhaps there is a spring off or the cable is kinked up on something or in need of adjustment? In gear is the driven wheel making contact with the drive plate? Follow along where the cable goes and anything connecting from disk to foot control. You may see something that looks out of place or dangling. The drive plate (attached to the motors shaft) may of sheared the key and the shaft could be spinning and not the plate itself. DISCONNECT THE SPARK PLUG and with out the driven wheel touching the plate, see if you can turn the plate without the motor turning. This is why I stressed to disconnect the spark plug so it doesn't start on you with your hand up in there. I kind of doubt this unless maybe you hit a rock or stump, but worth looking at. Something to look at anyways.

Yup, he has a different model than mine but I think if anything it should give him a better idea what he's looking at.

How about a video replacing brake cable and where it hooks up underneath. The same cable that you just put some adjusters on that's the one I'm talking about.

0:47 Do NOT remove that brake arm as Jackson instructs in one of his clips, he tells watcher to remove that and just have the brake with the band, this mower had the AUXILIARY brake added as a EXTRA SAFETY feature, it is like a cars EMERGENCY brake, what IDIOT would remove the main braking system and ONLY have the emergency brake
