Gorgeous abandoned Victorian farmhouse built in the early 1900's. Explore #65 Canada
This gorgeous farmhouse was built in the early 1900’s. Years later there was an addition added to the back of the house. My favourite part about this abandoned house was the tower at the front of the house. I loved the colour of the walls and the steep stairs leading to the top where there was only enough room for a chair. I was told the tower in the front is called a Widow Walk. The sailors wife would walk up to the top to watch and wait for her husband to come home from sea after serving in the military. Must just be the design as this house sits surrounded by farmland. The original owner actually gave birth to a baby boy in this house. Years later she passed away leaving this house to her son. Over the years there has been a few owners. Approx. 3 years ago a developer bought up the land to build new homes and the house has been sitting abandoned ever since. The barn in the back was the biggest I have ever seen and I really enjoyed explore it. A very strange thing happened when I was at this house. A red Cardinal kept flying into the front window over and over again making a banging noise. I don’t think it was hurting it’s self but it was very strange and never heard of this before. I’m glad I caught it on camera.

About me:
I have been exploring abandoned places since I was a child and now I would like to film the explores and share the videos with you.
My father took me to my first abandoned house when I was 7 years old. I remember going into the house and a old farmer came in and told us "we better watch out as the floors are all rotten and unsafe". Ever since that day I was hooked on exploring abandoned places.
If you have a location you would like to share with me or want me to explore for you please send me an email at abandonedurbexcanada@hotmail.com and I will give you full credit for the share in the description and during the video if you choose.

I have watched this 3'x already, just amazed at your slow steady walk thru, so respectful! This explore was very impressive, from the patterned brick work outside to the finished carpentry and trim work inside and the roof pitch is so steep on the home it would have been very dangerous building it, so much time went into this home 'back in the day' and you captured it all. Great camera skill! Then we move outside to the Massive barn 'be still my beating heart'. Glad you filmed in there and made it out with both ears Lol! Just a Huge place all the way around. Again GREAT Drone work and filming! I Enjoy watching all the explores you share with us!! ❤️🐦❤️ Bye Bye Birdie

That steep roof is unusual for that type of house. It's an Italianate Revival and the roof would normally look like the one on the tower. It is probably snowy there so they went with a pitched roof instead.

@@bsage5514 That steep pitch is usually associated with American Gothic houses. The back part that was added later is American Gothic. The trim is gone from the back part so it's hard to tell when that part was built, but I don't think it was very long after the main house was built. It would help if we knew if it had square nails or not.

As a kid, I lived in those places out in the country. My father was always searching for the perfect place that was just like home, in Yorkshire. He should have just stayed home. But those old houses were beautiful to live in. Rooms leading to halls and more rooms. And solidly built. And beautiful, living out in the country with the fresh air. And then the snow would arrive and reality would strike my father. This was not Yorkshire. And off we'd go again. Back into town until he longed for the next big house in the country. I was too young to appreciate the wood and the bricks and the architecture. But I can think back on them now. They were beautiful.

Possible explanation for the bird continuously flying into the window: they see reflection of the trees, sky, etc and think they can fly through it not realizing they can't...why they repeatedly do it I don't know lol...a couple of years ago I saved a juvenile cedar waxwing that flew into a window...had a minor concussion so I put him in the shed overnight, fed him choke cherries(they mostly eat berries) and in an instant he flew away the next day. It was beautiful! I even have pictures of him sitting on my shoulder sleeping and on top of my head lol...they are known to be pretty sociable and cute!😊 this was another cool explore! PS- that barn is amazing!😍 I'd totally refurbish the barn or strip the barn wood and reuse it for projects/use it as flooring or walls in my house, I love it!

If the developer was smart? They would focus on the sub divisions first. Then come back and do a full remodel on this property. They would make more flipping that farm than they would flipping one subdivision. That farm sold with 50 acres after being remodeled can be priced at over $8.5 million. Horse farm, Brewery, Dairy, slaughterhouse, Cannabis growery etc *all of the above*. The right person can diversify their cash and generate multiple streams of income from a property like that.

Cool video! The cardinal sees his reflection and is trying to fight "the other bird". I had a mirror in my barn and one of my roosters used to attack it all the time. The tower was cool, but I was hoping with the railing up outside on the roof that it would be an actual "widow's peak" where the wife would go up to see where the men were in the fields and/or call them to dinner. Many old farm houses had those.

That tower is called a widow's watch. I changed some windows on one about 3 years ago. The tower faces the St-Lawrence seaway. The landing has 2 windows and a small door, to access the roof. The very top has 4 narrow windows like these ones. The minus side was that, the stairs weren't there anymore. They build shelves in that space. To access the very top, I had to use a latter. The new windows barely fitted through the access trap opening and, the latter was very very steep (about 70º pitch). That window replacement job, was a nice one.

I love the high baseboards on these old houses, and the doors are beautiful. With a barn that huge and the smaller one with stalls, they must have had horses at one time and who knows what other animals. But these windowless basements, I know they don’t make houses like that anymore, but they are terrifying to me. But it doesn’t take away from imagining how exquisite this place once was, along with the property and location, I bet it was really something to see.

I have heard the landing area at the top of the stairs is a cold air sink. It is to help keep the bedrooms warm. The cold air has a flow or draw towards the stairs and creates a current allowing the room to fill with warmth instead of sticking to the ceiling.

Hi Brent. This was a great explore. Really liked the house and the tower. That was cool. It's a shame that this house is not a heritage one. I hope that the farmers don't sell their land. Thank you for the tour and take care.

That turret was just amazing!! I would spend a lot of time up there as long as my knees would allow. They don't build them like that anymore. Those doors and frames and baseboards are beautiful and would last for many more years. The stair rails and banisters should be saved. You be safe, Brent. This virus is worse than the first time round. I stay at home; I'm almost 70, so can't take any chances. That was a great video and the drone footage was breath taking.
