Ive built a lot of simple furniture out of dimensional lumber. Its functional, sturdy, and will outlast most store purchased furniture. I love how your bed turned out!! And now I have some ideas for making my daughters unbreakable bed ( we have never been able to get her to stop jumping on her bed no matter what we do, so I built her a frame she couldnt break) prettier! I love the tongue and groove on the ends! I have never done a dato groove, but I'm about to learn 😁 thanks again!! You guys are amazing and I always learn something from you. 👍🥰

On the next ones make the headboard extend to the bottom of the mattress. You'll find that having it where you do on this one that your pillows tend to migrate up and under the bottom rail. We had a bed with a headboard that didn't extend to the bottom of the mattress and it was frustrating waking in the middle of the night to yank your pillows back out
@Guildbrookfarm2 жыл бұрын
The headboard extends 4” below the top of the mattress so that hasn’t been a problem.
@rachaelsupadventures2 жыл бұрын
This looks almost exactly like the bed my husband made about 6 years ago. Except our headboard is down to the frame so our pillows don't fall in and we didn't put drawers underneath because we have the tubs on rollers that fit perfectly. He also included a two gang outlet box on either side of the headboard for each of us to use to plug anything in like our lamps Chargers Etc. And the headboard just plugs into the wall. We also use reclaimed wood that we did not stain and it looks more of the color of driftwood.

Carpenter here, it works best to stain the wood BEFORE you assemble the piece of furniture. That ALSO prevents wood glue drips from affecting the absorption of the stain or other finishes. And always let glue drips dry completely BEFORE removing them, never EVER wipe them off.😉
@Guildbrookfarm2 жыл бұрын
Yep. That’s what I’ll be doing from now on. It took FOREVER to stain that dumb thing already assembled. 🤣

Remember that pressure treated wood is usually treated with chemicals to resist rot outdoors so the wood dust can be a hazard. Wear a mask during cutting and sanding. Always seal the wood with at least a clear varnish or paint to sequester the chemicals if the surfaces are not run through a planer. The chemical layer is not very deep so planing usually removes it.

#perfect Looks sturdy enuff to park your 4x4 on and change the oil 😁😍😴😴 (of course, the mattress would be stored in a safe place and the center between the drawers would be your Jiffy Lube trench) I wish that it took 30 minutes to make a bed like that. It would be a 5-day project for me!! Are you going to add any LED reading lamps or strip lighting? Good thing Jamie was not in the room when you jumped on the bed with your BOOTS on. 🤠🤠

I noticed in your basement that the foam is still exposed. We are midway through our ICF home build and it’s code (where we live)to cover all the foam even in the basement. Our basement is technically unfinished even though we have drywall hung.
@thalinororcbreaker28402 жыл бұрын
In a lot of places it depends on the foam type and placement. My friend's entire basement was professionally foamed as part of a dry-basement system. Ugliest thing I've ever seen, but it's totally fine here. If you were to do the attic, though, you have to put in drywall.

Wonderful job! I’m curious…when you say you used lag bolts to secure head and foot boards to the drawer boxes, how did you do that so they didn’t show on the foot board? At least I couldn’t see any. Again, really nice job!
@Guildbrookfarm2 жыл бұрын
There are two 2x4 cross pieces on the back of the footboard just like on the headboard. On each end of each plywood box I used four 2” lag screws through the plywood boxes into those cross pieces. So 16 lags total.
