Oh dear - they put all the vocals through Space Designer Reverb on the same bus. They obviously don't have a background in production - this is bad practice - don't do it. Reverb should be on a Channel and you SEND to it. Hope that helps kids!

Bollocks. It's a style preference. What would be the point in reverb (a chamber or space) without the sound sounding like it's come from that space. Yeah, of course you can channel it off to retain the impact of the vocal, but that's not always what's needed for vocals to sit comfortably in a mix. It's not bad practice, its a choice.

@@johnbercow6173 Not bollocks - and there is no need to be rude when I'm genuinely trying to be helpful. I'm talking how to setup. If using a mixing desk, you don't generally put a reverb unit through the inserts of the vocal channel. Vocal bus, you could do, single vocal channel - nope. This is nothing to do the with the way it sounds.

@@JNAStudio Excuse my English profanities. Surely, the sound is the fundamental aspect to all of this - the end result. How you get there doesn't necessarily matter in my opinion. Arguably, some of the best music out there is created in "unconventional" ways, especially compared to old mixing desk practices. I understand completely the methodology of sending the sound to an insert with reverb, but what if you want the sound to have the complete characteristics of the reverb, not a mix between the original channel and the reverb on the insert? And, it could be possible that Gorgon City wanted the vocals completely engulfed in reverb as a style choice. Although, it seems that this was one of their earlier projects and maybe they didn't use a channel send technique. But whatever the case, it obviously worked for them.

Furthermore, if reverb is added early on in the chain, further plugins might characterise the reverb along with the vocals to produce something that stands out in a unique manner. This isn't possible with the send, unless you add the same plugins onto the insert channel after the reverb, which could mess up other sounds using the verb and just makes things a whole lot more complicated.
