They say no good records come out these days... Seems to me they won't dig deep enough.
@nackskott12

Anyone who says that is either old and out of touch, pretentious, or both. Never understood people like that. Shitloads of killer music comes out for each genre every year. Anyone who says "rock/metal is dead" or that no good music comes out anymore is usually just too lazy to look for good music, or they want to score street cred with boomers.

People that say no good music comes out today are probably talking about on the radio. Or yeah, they're too lazy or stuck in tgeir ways. Most older folks get like that. I'm not sure why but I seem to be somewhat of an exception because I'm 49 and I love the music of today (2019) and look forward to 2020 as well. With that said I also like 80's tunes. Peace out 🤘

might sound abitt obscure but you can here alott of jazz fusion influence incorporated throughout each record over the years it gets more technical as each album release but still makes for one of the best death metal bands to date

Gorguts isn't as influenced by jazz but rather classical. Luc Lemay at least is influenced by classical music, but the drummers are usually jazz influenced. Not sure about the other guitarist and Colin.

Gorguts Le toit du monde "Tibet is a land of timeless, infinite expanse. The highest region on the planet is a vast plateau, six times bigger than Western Europe...For centuries, it was known as a forbidden, inaccessible, and secretive realm, sequestered from the world by its altitude and bordered by an often impassible mountain range, the mightiest in the world." Went to see Gorguts b/c of Pleides Dust and was one of best shows I've been to. LIked their older material too. I don't know, is this mainly death metal? There sure is lots of experimentation even before Pleides, but maybe I don't hate death metal like I thought I did. Carcass has some good stuff too, noticing, and there gotta be others.

Go listen to Death - "Individual Thought Patterns" or "Symbolic". If you don't like them, you don't like death metal.

THANKS STEVE. Loved it. That's actually jazz they're playing. I know that b/c I studied it and I play power metal piano with improv and adding all my 7s, 9s, 6s. Also a big Yes, Genesis fan. They're incredible musicians and have brilliant lyrics .... and I notice a deceased member. I should be ready for that heartbreak. Happens every time I check out a new band or song. That's rock for you. Strange death metal is not something I ever thought I'd like. Just turned off an awful song on radio today that was like cookie monster barfing into a mic. I guess there's good and bad in the genre, like everything else.

This song has so much Jazz influence in it. If you're just getting into gorguts, I recommend trying "obscura" first. That song is a pure masterpiece and can serve as an introduction to the tech-death genre (it's kinda the progenitor of the genre in some way). Well, that and "Withered and Obsolete" by Ulcerate. Try those two first, if you're not getting it, tech-death might not be your cup of tea.
