Shabani's daughter Annie celebrated her 10th birthday in June and has been getting stronger and stronger.
Her brother Kiyomasa seems to be enjoying wrestling with Annie these days.
On this day, after breakfast, Kiyomasa and Annie came back inside and enjoyed playing wrestling.
However, Dad Shabani was worried about his daughter Annie.
He warned Kiyomasa several times not to play too hard with Annie.
However, Shabani thought that Kiyomasa had played rough with Annie, and he became angry and pushed down.
but Shabani was the only one who thought so, and the other gorillas were angry to him and chased after him.
After a while, the gorillas came back inside and made up with each other as if nothing had happened.
I would like to learn from the gorillas who make up quickly after a fight.

I think it's important to remember that none of what's happening here is the fault of the gorillas. Yesterday's brief interaction between Shabani and Kiyomasa didn't seem like much on the face of it, but apparently tensions are rising again in the family. Kiyo will be 12 years old in a few months, he's on the cusp of becoming a silverback himself. His hormones and his instincts are driving him to behave like this, and Shabani is reacting the way he is for the same reason. Western lowland gorillas do not tolerate multiple silverbacks in a troop, and it seems to be long past time for Kiyo to be moved out. If the zoo doesn't have a plan in place for this to happen very soon they are negligent and failing these animals.

Very well written and true! I wouldn't want to see anything bad come from this group! Kiyo deserves a new beginning with his own wife and children, he will excel at life. If he's not given this opportunity soon the situation will only continue to increase! He sure is a romantic fella the way he softly touched the face and rubbed her arm with one unnamed female, big no,no but I'd not seen that before with a Male gorilla except De'jeeco. He sure loves his wife, running up to her for a morning hug! They are amazing primates and deserve much more than to be held in captivity! Hoping for a better future for the Momotaro, Shabani and De'jeeco family!

😮😢 I think a lot of us has watched kiyo from a new born ❤ and we’re dreading this! I somehow thought they would be better prepared cause his moving is inevitable! but are they going to wait until Shabani really goes postal? And kiyo gets hurt. Same thing going on with Momotaro and gentaro! I hope they announce something soon, it would be nice to see the sons get wives and start their new adventures!

I think by the end of the year both Gentaro and Kiyomasa should be moved. I'd be surprised if both are able to stay past that timeline, at the rate the silverback fathers are loosing their patience and scolding. It definitely has gotten tense in enclosures Higashiama and Kyoto. Let's have a moment of silence for both sons, 🙏 praying for a miracle of obedience 😊.

😮 Yep, I saw that. It was similar to what happened with Momotaro and Gentaro when they got into a fight. Gentaro pushed his dad so hard Momo actually lost his footing. These teenage boys are getting really 💪 strong, and are 🔥 hormonal, and acting out. This is a sign that they are ready for mates 😊.

Maybe not quite ready for mate but definitely ready to leave home, maybe to a bachelor group for awhile to practice their strength with other males around their age. Once they have matured fully, then they may find a home with females that match with them on the SSP

While we'd all love to see Kiyo with a family of his own, we should keep in mind that not every captive male gorilla gets their own troop, sadly. Bachelor groups are necessary and important in the maintenance of gorillas in zoos, and the guys can do very well in a group of friends. This often happens in the wild naturally. Since gorillas are polygamous the numbers just aren't in the males favor.

That poor guy, Shabani! He's such a good dad even with out of control teenagers! Momotaro rules with his big gorill gloves! If the family is sitting in a group and Momotaro raises his hand to wipe his nose the whole family will duck! I do see his frustration being locked in a bird cage, literally! Male gorillas are working family men with jobs, to find food and protect the family as he makes it larger. He's been stripped of his dignity and there's nothing right about that. They have children making faces at them, clapping, shouting just being humiliated daily. That's hard on those proud gorillas! They need to be moved to a place they can escape the sight of humans and roam!

Shabani wants to chase Kiyo out. In the wild, Kiyo would have been forced out already and would be finding his own harem. This borders on animal cruelty in my opinion. This puts a ton of stress on the family. Kiyo is starting to become a Silverback. If they wait too much longer, it can really get dangerous.

I can understand that zoos truly serve as a refuge for certain endangered animals due to humans hunting them for various, completely senseless reasons, in my opinion. But when I see gorillas, my initial reaction is one of deep sadness. I feel a strong sense of discomfort seeing the father sitting like that, trying to replicate his natural behavior, which logically should be in the heart of the jungle and not in a room measuring 5 meters by 7. However, I also understand that, on one hand, they are safer here than in the middle of the jungle where they are being massacred

Do people actually have a sense of what it feels like being confined in a cell and what this does to these creatures? We know they are going extinct in the wilderness but this is not an acceptable solution. Animals have to be protected in the natural habitat! It's heartbreaking to see them like this!

This reminds me of Frank and Winston in San Diego. Frank actually mowed Winston down one day. Shortly after he was moved with Monroe. I remember hearing the keeper talk about it and she said that they had already been preparing Frank for the move. Apparently it took some training in order to safely move him and with not a lot of stress to hm. I’m hoping that this zoo is working on a plan to move Kiyomasa. It will be hard especially for Annie but it’s necessary. I see other male gorillas at other Zoos moved sometimes as young as seven. Does anyone know if there is an existing bachelor group in Japan?

unfortunately there is not any existing bachelor group in Japan now. but I believe that there should be a facility for bachelor groups in Japan.

He and Monroe are still at the SD Zoo in a different enclosure that is adjacent to Winston.
