Like at my zoo, we lost our silverback so the 7yr old wouldn’t work out with a new silverback, so we traded for a bachelor silverback, and he is doing very well with our ladies. Another of our zoos just sent a silverback Azizi to Milwaukee, to be with the 2 females after their silverback Oliver passed away. The bachelors here ARE getting opportunities to have their own families. It’s a question of putting them somewhere to learn the ropes before pairing them with a suitable mate. I worry most is that there is NO diversity in Japan’s zoos….and there should be NO inbreeding, otherwise, the offspring will have higher risks of mortality because of genetics. It’s a complicated situation.

If Annie is Gentaro 's ONLY potential mate they should be placed together ASAP.... Shabani has plenty of other family members to occupy him. I'm sure he will be VERY upset but his keeper's will take excellent care of him. Gentaro deserves to be allowed to become head of his own family ❤❤❤

Shabani needs to have more babies which is unlikely with Al. He needs new femaleS. Than his mind will be occupied and Gentaro and Annie can be paired up. Japan should do more to to help this endangered species.Have Zoos with more Gorillas than other animals. Japan should take a lead in this field as they have Superstars like Shababi and his brother Haoko. But it seems Japan is only interested in making money out of these magnificent beings. Look at the wasted life of Komomo and Momoka. What a shame! They should plan at least 5 to 7 years ahead. Like plan for sumomo and Ringo as a pair think for the Future.

GL said the zookeepers believe this about Shabani, and we know that Shabani is very sensitive. However, it will be Chiba and Higashiyama Zoos that determine the outcome. Let's keep our fingers crossed for the young gorillas and their future.

Ideally, the only reason to have gorillas in captivity is to preserve the species. The management of gorilla families is highly complex. Any country that has gorillas in captivity should be part of the larger international gorilla management program for species preservation. Zoos need to be forward thinking with a plan for each gorilla. Every gorilla troop must have one silverback, his females, and the zoo should develop a collaborative plan with other zoos to manage the offspring in ways that are responsible. There cannot be two silverbacks in competition. This is a huge challenge for captive gorilla families. Not every male will end up leading a troop. That would require more and more habitats to be built and funded. I hope both of these zoos have plans because tensions and risks will keep escalating within both troops. Inevitably they will be in crises. Concerns about Shabani are very valid, especially as Nene struggles and sooner or later, will die. Annie's health and well-being also needs to be carefully considered

I cannot agree with this thought. When Momotaro was separated from his mother, it is said she cried and was depressed. I’m sure it affect Momotaro in a bad way, also. But the purpose of zoos is to perpetuate the species, and keeping these gorillas that are sexually mature alone is not only cruel, but also defeats the purpose of perpetuating the species. Shabani should be given another, younger mate. If he has more babies, he won’t take separation of Annie as badly. I just cannot believe that plans were not made for these young gorillas 5 or more years ago.

Breeding was so important they went ahead and separated them, which was sad because Momotaro really was too young to be separated. However, regarding Gentaro, it seems like breeding isn’t top on their priority list, which is my complaint. Annie is 11 years old, certainly old enough to be separated. I also feel bad for Momoko’s two daughters. They should also be sent to breed. It’s a very unsatisfactory situation for all of these teen gorillas.

They need a few acres at the very least to run around outside and more space inside. They have to be going stir crazy, they are so intelligent, that they must know they are being exhibited sometimes you can see Momotaro's eyes looking into the camera as if he detests the fact we are watching but there's nothing he can do about it. He must be frustrated at that moment, then there are times he doesn't seem to care as if he has resigned himself to it. We wish people would not poach them in the wild and that they could have a wild domain to rule over but then again forest fires are a big threat too. So we are glad the zoo does seem to take good care of them and have a relationship with them. It still leaves us feeling so sad at times we can't help but feel like they have become family in a way, we care about every aspect of their existence and only want them to not only be healthy but happy which would be easier for them if they weren't so intelligent. Thank you for updating us on their family, we wish you and the Momotaro family all the best.

I think it would be a massive upset for Annie also, from what I've seen she seems a little mature for her age. That's obviously going to come into it having such a protective & loving father as she's got. No doubt about it with such small groups of Gorillas living together. All they really know is their inner circle of close family members. For Annie's Dad & his instincts of protection towards her. For her to one day not be there. It's understandable how upsetting it would be for both of them. I'd love to see Gentaro & Annie become the heads of their own family. If only it was as simple as that.

Can't argue against what was said here. I normally watch the Shabani troop on YT and he obviously does take Annie's side even when she is starting trouble with Nene. Also Nene being in quarantine recently has definitely negatively affected Shabani as he isn't eating as much as normal either. So yeah if Annie were to just up and disappear hard to say what would happen with Shabani.

I hope they can get it all sorted out sooner than later . Gentaro is almost ready for a mate, but not quite. It’s such a shame a plan has not been worked out worldwide for the sake of these magnificent creatures. Please, zoos around the world have a conversation about how to best unite and share the gorillas for their sake. They can always agree that one future baby goes to one country and back and forth. Like the US did with the beautiful Pandas. But the conversation has to start now as it is already late for some of the grown ups. Let’s unite for their sake. I agree that Annie (ideally) should be partnered with a unrelated Silverback and I hope Kiyomasa gets moved to a Bachelor group soon. However, keep in mind that the collective zoos across the world who can accommodate and provide care for these amazing animals can't breed more than can reasonably be cared for in captivity. They are large animals that needs lots of space and resources. I think there has only been one case where a captive born gorilla was successfully released to the wild but there have been several unsuccessful attempts. We have to assume that captive born, captive life.

@@annec7772 Oh yes, there are many videos when Miss Yasui attends to Momo's hands and feet. She clips his nails, files them, and puts olive oil on his toes to soften them. It is said that Momo has a great relationship with her, and he sits quietly and still while she is pampering him. It occurs after the evening meal in the small room during health checks.

Unfortunately the two zoos do not have contracts together which means the people who own Gentaro do not own Annie so there is no contract. But hopefully they can work a way around this problem and get them together . 🦍❤️

These gorillas are critically endangered. It’s way beyond contracts and money…it’s ecosystems and preservation. I think Shabani would be fine, it’s natural for the Silverbacks children to move on. She’s not ill or dying, it’s just natural progress. I think it’s an abomination that males are sterilized and housed together. First, like I said, this is a critically endangered species and second, it’s against their instinct to live lifelong with other males…for the most part. What a mess this situation is…

I just thought it not the most important thing to keep them apart because the zookeepers notice that Annie is a favorite offspring of Shabani. Happy gorilla watching to you!

Just put Gentoro with the Shabani troop. Everything will be fine. You can't take Annie out of that troop but putting a new gorilla in there will help with the gap that's going to happen when Nene dies. You can't put Annie with momotaro it's not going to work. So just put gentaro with the Shabani troop problem solved the zoos need to come to a meeting of the minds.

Unfortunately that's not possible, they are related by blood. Mama Momoko is the mother of the two girls and also the mother of Momotaro. 🤷 Komomo would be a great match for Gentaro, she is sweet and took good care of her little baby sister Sumomo. But unfortunately this is not possible due to the blood relationship. 😔

とにかく海外からゴリラを連れてくる以外に方法はありません。 それが無理だとすれば、バチェラーグループ（独身同士のグループ）になるのですが、日本では未経験です。簡単にできることではありません。一歩間違えるとオスゴリラ同士が大喧嘩し致命傷を得ます。 海外からゴリラを入れられないのなら、これ以上、日本国内でゴリラを増やしてはいけませんね。

The word is not humanized, it’s institutionalized and it happens to humans that have been in prison.

They are certainly different from wild gorillas because of their life in contact with humans. Captive gorillas need to be able to communicate with humans to receive proper treatment. Therefore, it is natural and inevitable that gorillas kept in zoos have more contact with humans.

If they were able to pair Gentaro with Annie where would they put them? Couldn’t move Gentaro to her zoo because then there would be 2 silverbacks. Meus dois amores Kintaro e Genki, fico muito preocupada com Kintaro, porque estou vendo como está complicado arranjar uma companheira para Gentaro por falta de planejamento, o ideal é começar a planejar agora o futuro do meu lindo Kintaro, comunicação é tudo, é o que falta para esses Zoos, Komomo e Momoka estão precisando de um Silverback, esses alojamentos de solteiros estão cheios de Silverbacks, mas por causa de burocracia e outras coisas que falam, não aceitam essas lindas irmãs, acho burrice, enfim, tem Kyomassa que provoca o pai, Gentaro também, em breve Riki. Realmente Shabani e Haoko precisam de fêmeas, está tudo muito errado, tem Monta e Laura vivendo em uma prisão solitários e tristes e não cometeram nenhum crime, esse é o meu medo, que esses jovens gorilas tenham o mesmo destino do Monta e da Laura. Não faz sentido separar a Tayari e a Iriki do D'jecco, a família funciona bem, os filhos amam o pai D'jeeco. Os gorilas não podem pagar por erros cometidos por humanos, eles já estão pagando a vida inteira em Zoos para sustentar familias que trabalham nos Zoos, sim, eles estão institucionalizados. Amo muito meu lindo príncipe Kintaro e a linda e doce Genki ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I would love them both together but I have to agree that he would probably do better with an older female. Annie is still in her punk rock rebellion stage😂. But maybe shabani would get over Annie eventually if he got another wife. I love Ai but she doesn't seem really interested. I LOVE NENE but we all know she is not doing so well at the moment

Genki cannot be moved. She became extremely depressed, and nearly chewed all of her fingers off the last time she was there. None of her other matings were successful. She is not good in a troop, but has been very happy with Momo and her little family.

I remember a meeting at the zoo about Gentaro not long after I first started watching your channel last February. It was proposed that Gentaro could maybe be moved abroad. Perhaps to England? I think that was mentioned because I remember stating that I'd go and visit Gentaro if he was sent to England.

The problem is that the two zoos do not have contracts with each other so they cannot pair them together. I am hoping they will make an exception to the rules to get Annie and Gentaro together.

Haoko and Shabani are brothers, so their offspring are cousins. Momotaro's dad, Biju, died before his birth. He is Momoko's oldest son. Momoko and Haoko's offspring are Momo's half-sisters and brother. That makes them Gentaro and Kintaro's aunts and uncle. Ai and Annie are the only unrelated females to Momo, Gentaro, and Kintaro. Of course, Ai is Shabani's mate. That only leaves Annie. Wow that sounds confusing - but it's true. 🤨 😉

I'm sorry but that's silly. Shabani would be fine. I'm sure he would miss her and have an adjustment period but that's gorilla life. They all eventually in one way or another lose a member of the troop. In the wild the young ones leave to find a mate of their own! I think it's just excuses at this point. They have all their gorillas related dooming them to a sterile life if they don't find a way with other zoos.
