I have been watching these gorillas for a while now. I marvel at their interactive caring attitude towards each other. I, too, would like a larger environment for them. The boys are growing quite rapidly and certainly Momotaro is quite large which I presume both Gentaro and Kintaro will also soon become large silverbacks. Gentri is such a kind caring mom and companion to Momotaro. Sorry to hear what horrors she went through that she felt so ostracized to the point of hurting herself in desperation. Glad to know that personnel removed her for her own safety which led to her having a better life. Thank you for caring for these marvelous created creatures from Heaven.

Beautiful scenes on this video. Momotaro and Genki were meant to be a couple, and have a beautiful family. Momotaro changed for the better Genki's unstable life forever; Genki could get pregnant from Momotaro and motherhood brought peace, stability to her. She's an excellent mom, the best one can imagine: so sweet, protective, patient, loving. I have no doubts Momotaro is in love with her, the way he stares at her speaks volumes. I think the zoo would make a lot of money if they published how to be a mother after going through trauma from gorilla mom Genki's perspective. Genki is an excellent mother. I wish my mother was protective and attentive as Genki is with her baby boys.

I'm just wondering if the reason Genki's arm is hurt or injured because of the incident between Genki and Momotaro last month??? Momotaro got angry over some food that Genki had or was eating, and then Momotaro attacked Genki. I felt really bad for Genki. Momotaro didn't like brutally attack her or anything like that, but he did attack and ruffed her up a bit that's all, nothing major... I hope she's ok?!

Genki lost her fingers due to her anxiety disorder. She chewed them off herself when during her younger years she was separated from her parents and sent to Ueno Zoo. She was born at the current facility, Kyoto City Zoo. At Ueno Zoo she received a great deal of attention from the Silverback which caused the female gorillas to harass and what humans deem as "bullying" Genki. She has always been considered a beautiful female gorilla compared to other females. Because of the negative treatment, she became anxious, neurotic and started self mutilating and also stopped eating. In an attempt to save her life, it was decided to bring her back to her original home since her father passed away and inbreeding couldn't occur. Since that time, she has thrived as the Queen of her original home at Kyoto. Momotaro was a young gorilla at Ueno whom Genki would become excited whenever she would see videos of him on the tv outside of their inner enclosure. Hence the decision to bring Momotaro to Kyoto. He was 11 years old when brought to Kyoto and the only Silverback able to impregnate her. True story. Genki is not pregnant now...her stomach is bloated from the gas that the grasses, etc, cause during digestion. She can't conceive until Kintaro is weaned and the time between births is normally 4-6 years.

Yes, that's what I think too, the cut on Kintaro's back looks like a bite, and when they play that's what they do, they bite the back, and arms, etc. Genki's cut, looks like the same thing, I really believe it was Gentaro. They train them from a young age to present there arms, open there mouths and so on so they can check every day..... they play a lot and bound to get scrapes and scratches so they check so no infection

Your words are fine. I can understand most of what you say. I have subscribed. I didn't at first because I am being faithful to another gorilla family in American zoo. How ever I think I am now in love with another gorilla family too. It will be so sad when Gentaro is fully grown. I know he will get traded to another zoo far from Mom and family. But I also know this is important to keep a good blood line for gorilla population. It will hurt to see him go away from your videos.

Gentaro has been an adult for years now, but he's not a silverback yet. He's a bit overdue for a transfer to a bachelor group, because in the wild he would have been kicked out of the family group years ago. Unfortunately, gorillas cannot be moved from any zoos for now because of covid. When all that is over, he should be moved ASAP for the sake of his happiness and fulfillment. He has no important role in the family unit any longer, and I have seen videos of him looking distressed that his mother no longer grooms him. Luckily, he still pals around with his infant brother so no one is too lonely.

Gentaro is almost of mating age. Talk is that they may mate him with Annie, or Laura. He is as restless as a teenager, hormones raging, and his horse playing sometimes goes too far. I love my playful, beautiful Gentaro but he has been going far, as of late. The other day, Genki Mama was tending to a bite on Kintaro's neck. Yesterday, Genki was getting grass from the keeper, and Gentaro was being a bully, and trying to pull it away from her. King Momo came charging to her rescue. As Gentaro will be moved soon, perhaps, he will be by himself before he is introduced to his mate, so he won't hurt her.
