Gorilla Territory Tension Lope's Confrontation with Silverback - Who Will Retreat

Gorillas Lope and Silverback Dishi clash for dominance at Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon, France, in a tense standoff with surprising twists.
Gorilla Lope is at the Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon in France with Silverback Dishi. Lope was never one to shy away, and it's the same at his new home. He shows the silverback that he's no pushover. Both are up at the top ledge of their habitat. Silverback Dishi is sitting down when Lope starts approaching with his hunched back and looks to the side, ready to charge. The silverback gets up and puts one of his legs on the log, giving him the power to launch himself. I'm not sure if you can see it, but in this pose, Silverback Dishi has a tooth sticking out and seems to have a wonky jaw. Not sure how or when this happened. This time Lope decides to back off, and Dishi moves the other direction. Then he starts charging back and forth, with Lope walking in the back, watching him. Aybo sits on a strap, watching. Lope takes his position again, hedging his bets. Lope walks back and forth, with Dishi watching him and taking a step back. Lope walks around, sits down for a second before getting back up again, walking towards Dishi. The silverback retreats and Lope has a little rest. He looks full of confidence, his belly moving up and down. I wasn't quite ready for it as Lope charged and made Dishi go down the rocks. Dishi isn't a small silverback, just lacking confidence in himself. He climbs back up again, Aybo getting out of the way, but he got time to pick something up from the floor. Lope is still pacing up the top. Dishi moves into the hammock. When Lope walks past, he charges and beats his chest at Lope, but Lope is not backing down and beats his chest back at him, and the table turns as he charges, as Lope is now charging at the Silverback. Dishi runs away at lightning speed. Lope stops when Dishi climbs to the ground. He has his backside to the window, you can see him breathing hard. Watch Lope, he looks like he's doing a fist pump at the end.

I love Lope to bits and pieces. When i need a good laugh i go back through his older videos and die laughing at them all over again. My fave has to be him showing Shufai how to do a running belly dive down the hill in their enclosure. Im proud he stood his ground...He has definitely learned a lot from his father Oumbi but i dont want to see anyone get hurt.

Lope is built like an athlete whereas Dishi big and bulky. Lope has that tapered look. Well, Lope definitely has that Oumbi swagger and intimidation factor. Dishi is already giving him some respect. In 2 or 3 years Lope could be the head gorilla. I don't think Dishi wants all the stress and headaches that comes with being the head honcho.

Wow. I thought Lope might be alpha in a few years but if Dishi doesn't show more confidence, he's going to be displaced by a teenager. I have mixed feelings. Lol. Proud of Lope, but also feel bad for Dishi. Also, I wonder if Dishi's jaw & mouth is the end product of medical treatment or they haven't treated it yet. This reminds me of how Lope acted when tensions were high at Twycross. Oumbi would let the others chase him until they calmed down and Lope would be hot on Oumbi’s tale. I wonder if that was what Dishi’s plan was or if he’s not confident up against Lope. ♥️

I have read that a Silverback in the wild must protect its females from other Silverbacks trying to steal a female so the Troop leader will fight the intruder. So, I am in an all-male troop one will be the dominant one. I know I know that Lope will have to do something to make the others in the troop know Lope is the boss. Lope is really "Posturing" to intimidate Dishi in this one. I still think at certain times that Lope has "Rocky", theme song playing in his head! He gets a bit too confident. Always a clown! Maybe Dishi is going easy on Lope being younger and setting him up for a future "humbling session" as he remembers those early days of high Testosterone & trying to be the alpha. Thats why I like to learn about the Gorillas before they were united and find out their personality. Do you know anything about Dishi as far as when he was in his family Group? I wonder what he was like there as he grew up. Maybe just a mellow Guy? Dishi may be a laid back and gentle soul as he is with those Monkeys. Doesn't mean he is a push over, maybe just "picks his battles wisely" and I just get the feeling that he will let Lope go so far then put him in line. We know Lope is a clown, I'm sure Dishi is still trying to figure him out with so much of his behaviors ending up being playful and for fun. Maybe Dishi is trying to be the Mentor and doesn't want to crack the whip on him yet..? Will be great to see what happens in time. Dishi is so adorable, but I think he has a whole lotta "whoop -ass" behind the eyes and just letting Lope strut a bit before reminding him who the BOSS is. LOL! Great video, as always!!! Dishi has had an interesting journey. He came from Howletts, then moved to Port Lympne Wild Animal Park ( where Lope's uncle Ambam was) , followed by Zoo de la Boissiere du Doré, and Zoo du Bassin d'Arcachon. Which I think where all bachelor troops. Unfortunately, detailed information about his early life and personality are limited. Regarding the monkeys, I think you might be thinking of Awali instead, as Dishi hasn't interacted with the colobus monkeys yet. It's will be fascinating to see how these dynamics play out and I'm excited to see what happens between Lope and Dishi in the future. So good to hear from you again🤗😘.
