I have the Go 10.3 and love the crispness & clarity but I’m starting to think that the Note Air 4C and Note Max are the perfect combination. One larger format with crisp display for desk-based activities and the smaller colour 4C for portability, colour work and low light conditions.

the ghosting honestly doesn't bother me but I suspect this is going to be an ongoing evolution as Onyx figures out how to manage the power, ghosting and response time tradeoffs for Carta 1300. I bet we will see the E-Ink Center on the Max (and any other 1300 devices) change settings as they figure all this out as well.

I am really torn between these 2 devices. I want the larger screen of the Max. But I want the color screen of the Air. BUT - my use case is writing (in Word and Docs with a keyboard). And note taking in One Note (I have never had an e-ink device, so, I might use the built in app) with the pen / keyboard. So, for what I want it for, I don't really need color. And, NOT having color may also be a benefit in limiting the distractions. I am easily distracted and want an e-ink device because if I have my iPad, instead of getting work done I am consuming content. So, I think I just basically answered my own question. But, if you have any thoughts, they are welcome and appreciated.

Frankly, I would prefer for the e-ink manufacturers to drop the extreme portability requirement for the large screen devices. Just acknowledge this screen needs a lot of power to refresh often enough and respond fast enough to user input that it needs a beefy processor and subsequently a large and heavy battery. A device of this size can afford to weigh close to 1kg, it's not like you're gonna hold this monster in your hands as you walk or in the bed anyway. The use case is clear - people who need the screen space for diagraming or drawing or using larger apps with keyboard and mouse even. Tablets this large are more of a replacement for a laptop rather than a notebook.

I just made the switch to supernote. Because for the past three years boox gave me fomo. I believe they can give is way more, hardware-wise. But to me it seems they scatter all there best hardware around on different devices. Instead of giving us one device with all there best. I am so happy to be in the supernote ecosystem now. 😊 Also three years ago I askes you for advise about the size and your advise clearly told me to go for a 7.8. But I didnt listen and went for a note air 2. Three years the size bothered me hahahaha now I have the NOMAD and I love the size. Should have listened to you 😂

The Note Max has no front light and a lot more screen to do BSR on, perhaps they were worried about battery life. Also the release was delayed by a several weeks "to work on the software", so maybe they just got as good as they could and there will be updates soon. I agree the contrast is great, the black is really dark.

Its concerning that newer Boox devices are going backwards/getting worse in regards to battery size/life, ghosting and refresh rate. If they were concerned about battery life then why does each newer device they release have smaller batteries? Tab Ultra/X has 6300mAh, Ultra C Pro has 4600mAh and all these new devices have just 3700mAh. Also the option of ultrafast mode is a big selling point for me, i decided not to buy the Note Max because it doesn`t have it.

Ghosting was not a real problem for me. My main concern regards battery life, honestly quite disappointing: 75% in one day using the device only for reading documents and writing notes, both in single screen and split screen mode

I just received the Boox Note Max and without the light in it didn't expect the screen in just lower light levels so hard to read. Like most everything else about it. Backing up / Syncing files is awkward depending if it is a PDF or other like their note files.

With the processor specs being the same for the Note Max and Tab Pro C, why did they even implement a different BSR? Did they rush to get the 1300 screen out to avoid the nightmare with slow release like we experienced with the Manta? Is this even something that can be fixed in firmware? I thought BSR had some hardware components...

This is the thing which has me confused! I'm pretty sure that BSR is really just using the more powerful GPUs which you tend to find in snapdragon chips. Certainky they can change the modes that the screen is using, but my thoughts are maybe the extra contrast the 1300 screen has makes it more prone to ghosting. I think we'll see improvement over time but that it will never be as clear a screen as some of the other BSR devices. Cheers!

@KitBetts-Masters I actually have the Viwoods with no refresh tech. When you refresh, the ghosting goes away, and it's way more contrasty than the Note Max. I am REALLY confused as to why a full refresh still leaves ghosting, like you demonstrate.

More than an annoyance, the ghosting heavily impacts the legibility of documents. I've mostly been using the Max to review research papers and work on language learning workbooks. I've anchored a refresh button globally and have to hit it way too often. No setting seems aggressive enough. My Air3C is fine by comparison.

I don't mind ghosting at all because it's an expectation when using e-ink and doesn't get in the way of what I'm trying to do. So I don't read too much into people complaining when something is ghosting too much. But this video is the first thing that's really made me pause on the Note Max... you had ghosting after a full refresh. I can't accept that. Ghosting is fine but if there's a feature to remove all ghosting then it should remove all ghosting. Something really wrong here. Hopefully it's software and not hardware... Is it maybe just extremely delayed on the Note Max? Clearly ghosting does vanish at some point otherwise you'd never have a clear screen. I've seen Note Max with no ghosting present at a given moment even though a full refresh won't remove all ghosting. Delayed?

hmmm…. it IS quite noticeable, yes.. on the Max. ghosting is a bit distracting, specially on you’re trying to focus on writing, but it is not too problematic, imo. they probably wanted to get the price down on the Max, so they removed the BSR. Otherwise, it would have been close to 1k€ mark..i reckon. the colour is nice, but the screen real estate is much more important to me, at least , over KZbin. i don’t know if, in person, or after usage, i would say the same. i’m still not over the microSD card removal, and the battery power decrease. are you finding it to holding well, compared to the Tab X ? thank you for the video.
