I don't understand people who say "just use an iPad is has more functions and quality for the same price".... Clearly you missed the entire point there. reMarkeble 2 is a digital notepad and document viewer and nothing more. Thats on purpose iPad user

it sucks as a document viewer tho, and the note taking is pretty bad with the lack of basic features like a shape tool, sent mine back and a chromebook with a usi pen is doing a better job

Hey Kit! I’ve been enjoying watching your videos as I decide on an e-ink tablet for University. I’m in my late 30’s and going back to school… so much had changed with tech that I want to make sure I can keep up. I currently have an iPad but I hate it for writing - but for drawing? Sure. I’m trying to decide between the Remarkable 2 and the new Supernote Nomad. My current workflow: Obsidian, Reader app, Zotero.

High-quality, informative video! I tried the Remarkable for about a month and ended up returning the device. I found exactly what you mentioned - it was difficult to fit into my daily workflow. In the end, I found that my iPad met my needs for periodic notetaking coupled with other functionality.

Tbh, any company that deems it unneccesarry to put in a higher storage than 6gb in a world where a microSD card can give you 128GB is shocking. AI and other tools already built in locked behind a pay wall, a pen that costs £100, disgraceful. I wanted one at first, but I don't think they deserve my money.

Great points. Expandable memory would be good, however you’re not putting apps or videos or pictures on it, so space isn’t a huge issue Maker plus being $130 is insane, it is high quality feeling but has a tendency to break easily, it needs to be half that price or less Paywall sucks, I can understand needing to pay money for cloud storage but for features on the tablet, it’s a bit stupid.

I wish I'd realized this before I bought my ReMarkable 2. I pre-ordered it and have had it for about 3.5 years. The charging port auddenly stopped working out of nowhere, and I discovered the little metal part in the middle is wobbly. The USB-C port broke after 3.5 years of normal use. I've *never* had a USB-C port break. And ReMarkable wants me to send it in for a 'discount on a newly refurbished device' for $164. Why does it cost $164 to fix a USB-C port that I didn't break? I'm switching back to Supernote, and I wish I'd never bought my ReMarkable 😑

I keep hearing how it's difficult to export your files but haven't heard much details. How easy or difficult is it to email any given document as a PDF? How easy or difficult is it to send a document to a print shop to make 15 prints of a 50 page document?

My new remarkable is waiting for me at home. I have tried the kindle scribe and the Boox Tab Ultra and Ultra C, keeping the kindle and returning both Ultras. The price of the Remarkable (£239 without pen) and the return policy (100 days) gave me confidence to try it.

@@KitBetts-Masters Thanks. For the benefit of anyone reading this, i got the ultra c first and returned it due to the darker (unlit) screen. The Ultra i tried to replace it had a much better shade of screen but i returned that as i worried that Boox would shortly release a 300ppi version. To be honest, now that i understand a bit more about the level of control you have over the contrast and colour intensity of the Boox C, i wish i had kept it, but went and bought an ipad and pen instead. My hope is I can combine the iPad and remarkable for a dynamic tech duo. One day my search for the perfect tech combination will be over, and i will be complete, and can finally rest.

Great review! I had the device for a week now and I pretty much come to alot of the same conclusions as you have. Getting and keeping the device would depend on several factors and it will not work for everyone.

I can't say if anybody else will regret their purchase, but I certainly do. The charging port broke after 3.5 years of normal use. I've never had a USB-C port break before. ReMarkable wants me to send it in for 'a discount on a newly refurbished device' for $164. It should not cost $164 to repair a charging port that I didn't break. If it's a clear manufacturing/design issue, it should be fixed for free or at least a reasonable price. I'm switching back to Supernote and wishing I'd never wasted my money on the ReMarkable 2. A USB-C port shouldn't break under normal use -- especially not after just 3.5 years.

I was just watching this again and your last sentence about if this fits in your workflow or you have to adapt your workflow is so true. Unfortunately it is not that easy to get both worlds together. I like to push content from my existing workflow (Mac environment) with one click to a E-ink Notebook. I tried the Boox AirNote 3 and was pleased by the build quality but Android system and Chinese cloud as well battery life plus visibility outdoors in the sun did not really meet my expectations. To make it worse their cloud was not working the whole weekend! So I returned it and still hang on my ipad with paperlike screenprotector and Goodnotes but the strain to the eyes with these backlit displays is a real problem as well the battery life. The last ad from Remarkable gives the impression the sync to your Notebook is just in time so it would be interested to hear your comment on this. Because if this is the case the choice for the Remarkable might be the right one.

Hi Kit! I'll be honest. I have been thinking about buying an e-ink tablet for a long time, but despite listening to countless videos and reviews, I still can't decide. I know that this is mainly about personal experiences, but I hope that you will help me choose the right tablet, at least a little, without additional thinking. So... 1. First of all, I come from Poland, so I don't know how it will be with delivering the device here (for example, I considered and still do not rule out the SuperNote a5x) 2. I am a student and I plan to replace my handwritten notes with this device. Additionally, I'm moving out soon and may use it as more than just a note-taking tablet (Boox). But... Well, that's what I'm not sure about. 3. I write texts and I know that you are also interested in this functionality. So what will be best for editing long texts and with the functionality of a translator, dictionary, etc. (I guess this also includes the keyboard case). In other words: which Boox if this is the choice/Supernote is really good but is it worth inluding costs od importing and folio/or mayby i should wait for some new realeses? 🤷🦧 So. I really have no idea what to choose and the more movies I watch, the more I get lost. Would you advise me to choose one or two tablets? Thank you very much and sorry for this long comment. Yeah, Boox bud. Go with Boox. Just better for managing long passages of text. You can use Google docs, or word or whatever. It's the answer for you I think!

Wonderful and spot on video as always. I've got a 1st gen remarkable and it's almost a paperweight for me. I use it only for reading and I'm back to pen and paper for notes. When it first came out remarkable had really no competition but right now I think they are lagging behind competition in software and honestly, the 2nd gen remarkable it's just prettier but functionality wise is the same as the original. I think they should work on improving the writing (there is no stabilization or AA) and sharing software (PDF exports looks different than what's on screen) on the tablet instead of marketing, I'm now considering a Supernote A6X as my next eink tablet hoping the software experience will be more fleshed out.

Not sure what more features you are referring to but for me, comparing to RM2 (had and used both, returned SN), these are pretty basic when it comes to editing / annotating PDFs. No Pages overview and moving pages in PDFs, no possibility of adding hyperlinks within PDF, poor, very slow zoom in/zoom out, no snapping to zoom to 100%, not possible to even add a blank page in SN to add more notes while reading/learning, no unlimited canvas to write on margins and so on (all of which RM2 has, w/o hyperlinks of course)... maybe for native note taking is better (hyperlinks, keywords), but for working with documents is really poor... and for RM2 syncing with cloud and sending the document via e-mail is much more seamless than SN. @@KitBetts-Masters

I feel like people obsessing over how e ink devices are minimalist, that may well hinder progress. For me, I'd love for e ink to actually catch up with other displays so that you can do everything on them, as someone who suffers from regular migraines and light sensitivity more generally. Imagine e ink catching up and getting so good that you could actually game on them! That'd be so cool! Probably a good couple of decades away from achieving that, though. Point is, it's up to individuals to choose to live a minimal lifestyle, not for them to hinder the progress of a certain type of technology, so that they are forced into it.

You probably buy all in one/multifunction printers. I buy just printers since that is what I use 99% of the time and it doesn’t stop working because of some error in some function that I rarely use (which happened many times). I have a kindle ereader, don’t care about color and all i want is something to easily take notes on which is light, and simple and works well/easily.

@@Scottlp2 I bought the cheapest printer I could get my hands on, after a decade of not owning one, so as to print out proof of disability for my government - of which the chronic migraines are but *one* symptom out of dozens. I buy tech according to my use case and needs. You buy tech according to yours. Congratulations. Good for you. You do the exact same thing everyone else does! How novel. I would like the same level of access to tech as everyone else, without having to be exposed to things like PWM. That's what a screen like e ink could provide. Nothing about what I want from forward thinking companies like Boox impedes your ability to buy a Remarkable or Supernote.

I'm looking to get an e ink tablet for writing my screenplays. I usually handwrite my first drafts, and then type up the next. At the end of this video you said you think the Remarkable 2 is good for note-taking and the Supernote for serious writers. If I'm only using it for my screenplays and short stories, what is the major advantage the Supernote has over the Remarkable 2? I don't like the smaller size of the new supernote's Nomad, and they stopped selling the A5x, so I would need to wait to it's successor if I get a Supernote. Their website says they expect to launch in Q1 so it shouldn't be too much longer.

I love the background handwriting recognition. In essence you are making two notebooks simultaneously, the handwritten one and the typed text one. Whereas in remarkable they are just new pages for the recognition. There's also the ToC feature which is frankly a cut above any other tablet's note taking app. RM2 is good, and less expensive than the A5X2 will be. But personally, I'd wait for the big supernote if you think it would suit you. 🙂

You can buy open boxes of the a5x, but you’re not guaranteed to get the feelwrite 2, it could come with feelwrite 1, and I really want that bumpy texture to make it feel even more like a notebook. I hope Q1 doesn’t mean end of march hah. Thank you for your videos, as a filmmaker, I know a lot of work goes into these, so keep up to good hard work, it’s excellent!

I purchased both the Boox and the Remarkable 2 at the same time. Sending both back tomorrow. Buy a Samsung Z Fold and be done with it. Really no use case for an expensive tablet like that as a replacement for a pad of paper that you can throw around carelessly.
