I guess it takes an awful lot of healthy "roughage" to fill up Mama's big round belly... : ) I'm fascinated by her method of stripping off the tender skin of the bark from the branches while pulling & stripping them through her closed teeth... This footage of these fascinating & MAGNIFICENT creatures is simply HEAVENLY...

Mom is making her more and more independent. But not only her, also her son. I haven't seen that myself yet, but other people (regular visitors) told me and I believe them. The girl is so smart (I saw last Monday) to go behind mom's back and climb on her back. Mom oviously doen'st want her to do that and then moves her to the front, to a breat. Smart baby girl!!!

We have cribs and prams, she doesn't ;-) So it's a hard job having to carry two around. Luckily they're already 'old enough' to be on ther own more and more. The funny thing is that I only have seen the twingirl with babysitters or on the ground a lot. She keeps the twinboy to her body. Maybe she's so happy with a bo after 3 girls before ;-)

As they get bigger and bigger it's hard to keep both babies in her arms all day. Again: they're doing fine!

When she gets hungry she goes to her mom. She's a star in that. She is so good at it that she can already climb over tree branches that are in her way. It amazed and touched me to see that. She's one tough little girl. Girlpowerrrrrrr When she's with mom, mom tries to hand over her baby brother. It's getting hard to have those growing twins in her arms all day.

Nimba really doesn't want N'Hasa around her. Poor N'Hasa, looking for some kind of gorilla affection but Nimba keeps pushing her off of her. Even when Nimba switches areas to get further away from N'Hasa, N'Hasa still tries to climb on her. lol Dertermined or what? lol

Gorilla babies need to learn to be on ther own on an early age. She's doing perfectly fine! Also the boys is on his own a lot. I've only seen the girl, but I'm only there once a week. I heard from others she also puts the boy down now and then. It's not sad at all.

Oh my goodness guys your acting like she's totally mistreating this baby not at all she's being extremely gentle and caring she did however turn around so her back was not to the big male I guess you guys didn't see her giving him the side eye but other monkeys I watch if you think this is bad their horrible to their babies I guess trying to wean them? Nobody quite knows why

Darla All throughout the videos, Mom does favor the boy. She looks at him more, makes sure he's always with her and doesn't let him go with babysitters. I think it's because he's going to grow up to be a silverback which is special for them. What I've noticed and I don't like, is that the girl is being rushed to be independent at a younger age than when the mothers give birth to just one. They usually hardly let anyone touch them at this age and don't let them fend for themselves amongst the troop. That little girl needs more rest, a bit more milk and to be shown more affection. She gets pushed away more by the babysitters because they don't want her all the time. She needs her mom a little more.Favoritism is sad but its unfortunate that we see it even with human families and in all animal species.Read more

no love...the baby crawling is the stronger twin....the one in her arms doesn't have the strength yet to do that...she wants them to crawl and move and explore to get stronger and learn the world...little babe in arms isn't quite there yet

That's the girl (N'Hasa). She already stopped drinking mother milk at the age of 3.5 (they're now 5). The boy (N'Kato) kept drinking for a long time (he still does!!) and because of that he's not as big and he wasn't as smart as his sister. An example. Where the audience is looking, there are walls with windows. At one point the kids start to pull themselves up on these walls to look at familiair faces at the other side of the windows. Since I was there once or sometimes twice a week for the first 4 years of their life, and now about once every 6 to 8 weeks, they 'knew' me. N'Hasa was very eager to pull herself up on these walls and often tried. But she couldn't get a grip on the border of the bricks. She kept on trying an at one point she was able to get the finger tops on that border and she pulled herself up to look at me. Her brother was always next to her back then and he tried to, but his finger tops couldn't make it to the top. He was able to do so a few weeks later. He was so proud at that moment. And so was I ;-)

Why is her stomach so big, is she pregnant again? And watching more of the video I am noticing she keeps pushing one of them off of her or keeping it from climbing on her. It makes me sad. Does she not want it anymore?

no...one twin is ready to explore and crawl the other isn't as strong yet..she encourages them to move and crawl to gain strength...she loves them both the same...she is just adjusting to where they are developmentally

They both got more than enough. They were and are healthy well fed gorillas. They turn 10 in June this year.
