The entire album was recorded on group co-founder Damon Albarn's iPad during the American leg of the Escape to Plastic Beach World Tour in October 2010 and mixed in England by Stephen Sedgwick.
Albarn said of the recording: "I literally made it on the road. I didn't write it before, I didn't prepare it. I just did it day by day as a kind of diary of my experience in America. If I left it until the New Year to release it then the cynics out there would say, 'Oh well, it's been tampered with', but if I put it out now they'd know that I haven't done anything because I've been on tour ever since."
---
The Fall is the fourth studio album from British virtual band Gorillaz. The album was officially announced on 20 December 2010 and soon after released on 25 December 2010 as a "free" download on the Gorillaz website, exclusively to fans in the band's Sub-Division fan club.
The album features fewer guest artists than previous Gorillaz albums; collaborators include Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash and Bobby Womack. The album was physically released on 18 April 2011.

I took the time to listen to the entire album, and I don't understand why it is so underrated/disliked by people. Personally it became one of my favorites... The experimental sounds , the sensations, everything that this album transmits is unique and sang to my soul, it makes you think about life, on things that have happened, or that have not yet... I'm sure this will get lost in the comments, but I wanted to leave my words

Love it or hate it, this album is pretty good for the circumstances it was made under, that being that it was made on an ipad in a month. You're allowed to have this album as your favourite, you're allowed to not like this album at all. On one hand, it's an interesting look into really simplistic, at times, random music, It almost feels like you're listening to a half finished song, which can be really interesting. On the other hand, sometimes things sound a little bare, especially compared to some really great songs on other Gorillaz Albums. Point is, everyone has their own opinion, and you're not disgracing Gorillaz by not liking this, and you're not disgracing their other albums by liking it.

I'm not going to praise an album for being made in a toaster, if the songs are bad. This album is bad, not Gorillaz quality at all. Many people force themselves to love it for being generally hated, but it is hated for a reason, a genuine reason.

Ditto, one of my most prized records. Its not on Spotify in Ireland despite all their other albums being, and I can't carry a record player around so I either have to use a vpn with Spotify or just come to KZbin, either way Warner and gorillaz ain't getting the revenue from me they should be, cos old idiots and outdated regional restrictions in a digital age, deeerp. I would argue that The Now Now is a perfect sister album to this. The now now and the fall > the last two main albums. I think damon works better when he's just enjoying the jams and not thinking too hard about em.

I just love how this album is the perfect transition between old school Gorillaz, which will always be my favorite, and newer Gorillaz a.k.a. Plastic Beach era, even if it's a little bit more plastic-beachy. It's just fantastic how 2D (Damon) managed to create all of this in his iPad. Also incredible is the evolution of Damon as a musician, ever since Blur and nowadays with a totally different music style. My heart will always belong with the self-titled album and Demon Days, but I got to admit he's doing an incredible work out there.

Hmm, I always considered Plastic Beach to be 'old-school' Gorillaz. I see the transition as everything after - Humanz, The Now Now, and Strange Timez. Honestly, I feel like Humanz is rubbish. Glad they found their way again after that though. How do you feel about Laika Come Home?

I'm happy this is a less liked album, actually. Probably because it was purposefully made to be cheaper and worse sounding. In the Gorillaz lore, to people who don't know it. Since Noodle was presumably dead, robot noodle wasn't created yet, and Russell was still missing, Murdoc had no choice but to kidnap 2D and bring him to Plastic Beach to make him another album all by himself and with very little equipment. That is one of the many reasons why 2D most likely has his high levels of anxiety, skiddish nature, and PTSD.

Like Gorillaz self-titled had G-Sides and Demon Days had D-Sides, I always felt like The Fall was more of a P-Sides for Plastic Beach than a fully fledged album. Still a great album, but never felt like the official 4th album due to the nature of it being understated and being made and released in the same year as Plastic Beach (Phase 3). Gotta love those road trip vibes though. :)

this album is so damn underrated despite how amazing it is and i dont think people give it enough credit at all. also i might be wrong but i feel like this album has some biblical meaning to it as well (considering its called the fall)

Honestly The Now Now has a feel similar to this album and I really like both, something about the smaller number of guests and maybe a more unified theme? The songs flowing from one to the other. On the other hand, this feels closer to the first album and that's also very good. Raw like an uncensored live interview. It is what it is.

California and the slipping of the sun...... it may seem weird and quite unnoticed. but it means the most purest thing ever. 2D has very low points in life (my opinion) and sometimes he cant get up from the pit and finds himself suffering for things he didn't really cause... 2D is very roughed up. but inside. he's a shiny pearl. righteousness writhes within. California and the slipping of the sun starts out gloomy and appears to be melancholy at first.... but as you get to know it.... happiness, hope, EXPRESSION, AGRESSION, OPTIMISM RISES WITHIN AND REVEALS ITSELF... a beautiful symbol giving you a reason to appreciate life and that every end is a beginning. 2D is California and the slipping of the sun.

When I first listened to this album I didn't pay much attention I thought it was discreetly good but nothing more. Then I fell in love only with some songs. And now I just love to listen to the entire album while studying or relaxing. I think it is a very interesting album that has to be known little by little like a discover and in my opinion it has nothing to envy to the other albums that are more famous and appreciated. They are all wonderful in their own way, including The Fall.

I don't see this album get talked about much even though it's one of my favourites, I'm pretty new to Gorillaz, so I don't have the same feelings towards Demon Days that most people seem to have, Demon Days is not a bad album by any means I just think it might get boosted higher because of people's own personal feelings towards it, even I heard stuff like Clint Eastwood and Feel Good Inc on the radio back then all the time like most people probably did. I understand why those songs are so loved it's just a bit sad that some other really good albums get overlooked, a lot of people don't seem to like The Now Now or Humanz that much, while Humanz is a mixed bag even for me I can't think of a "bad" song on The Now Now album, so I always wonder why people overlook that one.

Yes there is nostalgia associated with Demon Days, however... It reached #1 on the British album charts, and 6 other countries It went SIX TIMES platinum in the UK Double platinum in the US Feel Good Inc won a grammy Every music magazine at the time listed it as one of the top 100 albums of the decade It charted top 10 in 22 different countries, even non English speaking countries like Mexico, Italy, Japan, Greece, Germany, etc. In short, despite being undeniably experimental, it was a worldwide phenomenon. Pretty rare.
