After much contemplation, I ponied up the cash for one of these. My thought was that I am going to do 2-3 events and I wanted to also find a better work travel pack since I destroy one every six months or so. After getting it, I would have to agree that it is shoulders ahead of the competition. The quality is evident, but the design is what really makes it worthwhile. I can load 40# in there and carry it easier than 20# in another pack. The thing is glued to my back and even though I am 6'4" it actually pretty much fits. If you have the money and want to schlep heavy weight, or simply want to stop buying laptop packs every year, this is a good choice. That said, it should come with at least a sternum strap. I would also love to see a "tall" size where the shoulder strap padded portion was one molle loop longer as well as a few extra inches on the tightening webbing.

@@amaxlitethere’s a lot of cars that have the same features as a Ferrari, four wheels, two seats, steering wheel, engine, seat belts, etc etc It’s is not anywhere near the same. I’ve owned a GR1 from the beginning, over 11 years ago, the pack is still going strong plus there’s a literal life time warranty. So yea there’s a Jansport with the same features but it’s not made to the standard and quility of this bag.

It is because GORUCK brands themselves as a company that is built in the USA, and for many reasons, I prefer to support companies that manufacture their products locally. I know there are good ‘business’ reasons for manufacturing these bags overseas, but it doesn’t negate my disappointment. It does, however, make it harder to justify their premium pricing. Of course, you are entitled to your own opinion.

That is a nice but overly expensive day bag with one fatal flaw. Even a small day bag like this should have even a rudimentary waist strap (belt) for extended carry or for on a bicycle.

Craig Houdeshell you can bag a waist strap for like $40. There point is so it’s minimalistic and customizable to how you want it.

I totally get their worth from personal experience, but other times I want to just throw on my backpack and go. More importantly, to look as unobtrusive as possible.
