my suggestion is regarding the cabinet over the stove & sink. Have you considering using the soft fabric storage bins that would form easier to the curved back of the cabinet. Also, a extended curtain road would prevent stuff from shifting to the door and falling on you when opening it. Also a couple of eye hooks on each end of the cabinet and a bungie cord stretched across the front would keep items from falling out when opening the door.

Thanks for another informative video. I appreciate you breaking down each area in such detail, and you taking the time to measure everything. The fridge in your configuration is really impressively large. I wanted to ask you why you choose to buy ice. Does the freezer not make ice very efficiently, or is it just a convenience issue? And with regard to the shelf over your sink, have you ever tried Contact brand shelf liner? I've had pretty good luck with the clear varieties. The ones with clear horizontal lines might work well for you, and it's relatively easy to work with and trim.
@gosmall.livelarge
@gosmall.livelarge 3 жыл бұрын
Thx for your nice comments. Making ice requires turning liquid into solid. I move (drive) far too much to stay still waiting for water to freeze. Much easier to spent $3 on a 10 pound bag of ice that last a couple weeks!

I just spent 2.5 weeks in our new Travato 59G going "up north". The gas mileage has been about as advertised. The wife and I have are now comfortable driving the vehicle, parking, and connecting things up at campsites. Have been learning a lot and needed to have some things fixed and adjusted (i.e. mud flaps, ladder, table, shower door). My issue is that we have not gotten a straight and consistent answer on 1) lowering the table, and 2) how level the refrigerator needs to be. Our table connection at the wall broke off the wall when we tried to lower it. The dealer accused my wife of sitting on the table, (she did not sit on it by the way) but it is a prime example of bad design in my opinion. The refrigerator works fine, but the dealer really emphasized that the unit needs to be "level". I asked how level is level and that is where they got wishy-washy and couldn't give a straight answer. I installed bubble levels on the inside for both axes and have been messing with leveling blocks at the wheels to get within 3 degrees, which is my own engineering guestimate tolerance level. Part of my problem with this also has to do with our driveway, which is about 8 degrees in the long direction. I would appreciate any other insight into these two items. Thanks and keep up the good work.
@gosmall.livelarge
@gosmall.livelarge 4 жыл бұрын
Congrats on your 59G... So excited for you. Collapsing the table is a delicate dance, but doable. At least there is the option, right? As to the fridge, I have had mine on some very steep driveways, including ours at home base FL and my parents. Fridge performs admirably for extended periods of time. I really don’t give it a thought. I’m I’m comfy in the rig to eat, sleep, work and move around I’m guessing the fridge is comfy too, Thanks for watching the vids, taking time to comment and for being a subscriber

Have you considered a car cargo net? As an example, do a web search for Prius cargo net. Ours is a vertical net with plastic clips on each corner, bungie-type elastic across the bottom and top edges and a pull tab in the center of the top horizontal cord. The Prius type creates a "pocket" with a rear and front netting. Perhaps something like that could be modified for your use. You might even be able to use the left-over netting as vertical dividers to create smaller segments along the entire width of your upper galley cabinet.

Your refrigerator & freezer Is by far the better of the two Travatos. Have you ever missed having the "oven" capability of the 59KL convection/microwave? I never have understood why they didn't use the same one in both models. Seems like it would have been a cheaper option for Winnebago in the long run and there's definitely enough power in the L models.
@gosmall.livelarge
@gosmall.livelarge 4 жыл бұрын
You are right on the fridge and freezer in the G floor plan. I don’t miss a convection because I take my grill with me everywhere, use it, and adore it. My guess is thermal barrier around the convection oven is such that the cabinet in the G doesn’t allow that much space.
@lbvaliq
@lbvaliq 4 жыл бұрын
@@gosmall.livelarge So I happened upon a video from LichtsinnRV.com that covers the 59GL in detail and he explained that the cabinet doesn't have enough depth for the blower needed for the convection model. I am so surprised because it is above that huge fridge you would think it would be deeper than the KL, but maybe it is just wider! I wonder if your fridge is not as deep as the KL, either, since I don't know the dimensions. Get Kevin to compare the size of his freezer and fridge space for a dimensions challenge.

A really informative video Scott. I can see why you feel like the galley is its own space even though it's connected to all the others. One of the aspects I liked most was seeing you physically function in the space instead of just describing it. You actually are able to move and turn in the galley without much constriction. I'm not convinced that's as easily done in some floor plans. Anyhoo, I really enjoyed it!

Scott, what kind of grill do you use? I was happy to hear you can use an insta-pot. Do you feel it pulls a lot of power? Any idea if it’s possible to use an air fryer in a Travato? Regarding your upper cabinet, I think you mentioned trying to control the movement of items using rubber mats and that’s what my mom used in her RV (specifically Con-Tact Brand Ultra Shelf & Drawer Liner). You could also use plastic baskets or clear refrigerator bins. I’ve also seen some people string a bungie cord across the middle of the opening to help hold items in when you open the hatch, but I’m not sure how to connect it to the sides.

Hi Scott. We use bins in the upper cabinets. Plastic bins separate stuff, and keep stuff from tumbling out on us when we open a cabinet. The bins need to be a couple of inches tall at least, but for tall bottles (olive oil for example) I use a taller bin. You could also use soft sided bins but I would recommend they be taller so stuff doesn’t push the side over. The soft sided bins are nice because they are flexible and you can sort of stuff more in. Target has a set of plastic bins that come in different sizes in the set (sort of a woven design), so you can put them together like a puzzle. I’ve never been successful at using a double shelf. Stuff always falls off. For the smoke alarm, I went to dollar tree and bought a small box of plastic covers with elastic (they look like baggies) (used to cover leftovers) that come in various sizes in the box. I pop one over the smoke alarm even when boiling water! The alarm scares the heck outta the dog. For a buck they are easily replaced and you get several in a box.

Really enjoyed the detailed galley tour! I am still a wannabe, but still really interested in the 59 GL! One suggestion for the storage cabinet over the kitchen counter. If you could find a stretchable cargo net that you could cut to size and secure with Velcro you could have netting to ensure that nothing falls out when you open the cabinet door. Maybe have releases at the top and it just drops down when you are stationary.

Stan Augustyniewicz It’s a problem! My husband’s 6’2” and he just barely fits. But he still looks out of scale to the amount of space. Scott is trim. My husband isn’t fat (180#j, but he’s just solid. Long arms, long legs, big hand & feet. And with the little cutout at the end of the Murphy bed to allow room to get into the bath, his feet hang over in the middle of the night. I sleep in the puzzle bed to give him room, and I have to shove his feet out of the way so I can get in the bathroom door. A friend of ours is interested in a B, but he’s 6‘5“, so I referred him to a Wonder. They’re a 6’5” headroom. I feel a twinge of jealousy when I see videos on them, but we wanted the van to be nimble for a while and be able to go places the bigger vehicles couldn’t easily.

Go Small. Live Large! I chuckled when I saw you walking through that narrow space in the galley, marveling at how well you fit without having to go sideways. You aren’t a female with hips! I’m not fat, but I have hips. I get through it without needing to turn, but not with as much clearance as you do. Hah! And squeezing into the bathroom is also, well, a squeeze! But I’m not trashing the Travato, mind you. I still love it. But with a husband who just takes up a lot of cubic footage and me, it’s definitely tighter. I occasionally think we should’ve gotten the K, but that bath at the head of the beds was just too weird.

For the cabinet above the sink .. you can use clear bins or maybe attach a screen . If you install a screen with Velcro on the top and bottom of the inside cabinet then you can roll up the screen when you’re using the cabinet - (similar to how privacy screens work) this might help keep things in place and from falling out when you open the cabinet door 😄

I thought maybe you need to stuff in between things with napkins, dish rags, and cat treats, etc. More stuff, less movement? I think if Winnebago put all their controls in just one area and put a cover over it it would look more professional. I don't like to see any RV with a lot of different controls all over the place, I think it looks too busy, and it looks like a heart monitoring machine at the hospital. Nothing against you, my own personal opinion I just like to have all the controls in one area and keep things off the walls as much as possible. Same thing with lighting I like recessed lighting, so it's not all these things hanging down ready to scratch on bald heads.

The are adjustable just by twisting them. Hope I explained this so it’s understandable. That is how I kept my items in my RV trailer. 🤗

Scott great video as always. Question on the freezer. Is it self de-frosting or do you need to do periodic maintenance to de-frost? Nice cheese board and still laughing about the Catholic guilt! Great advice on waiting until you get your van to start purchasing items for storage so you don’t end up with too many things you won’t use. Those plastic bags always seem to be out of control. I know using a reusable shopping bag helps cut down on the number I accumulate. Some stores now though are limiting if you can bring them in.

Hey Cheri. Yes on periodic defrosting of fridge. Freezer hasn’t been an issue. Less door opening for humidity to creep in I think?

For your plastis grocery bags, fold them lengthwise and then take the bottom end and fold it like a flag and tuck in the end at the top. Google folding a grocery bag.

I’ve just come across your channel this past weekend. I’m currently in the market for a class B or C. Leaning towards a Class B particulary the Travato with the VOLTA system and I’d like to add the fourth module or battery whichever the proper term is. I have quite a few questions so I’m trying to watch all your videos to get answers before I bug you with questions that could have been answered by watching a video. I understand you’re a brand ambassador for Volta so I’ll ask those questions once I put a list together and if I may ask A question now it would be. How cold can you comfortably live in the trovato. I live in the Northeast. Long Island NY to be exact so at what temperature would the tanks freeze? Are there warming blankets that are an option to keep them from freezing. Etc. Etc.

Well I can't wait for the great room video lol. As far as the upper cabinet goes I think I would maybe glue a thin piece of carpet that way you could use containers with velcro on the bottom that would stick to the carpet. Just a thought.

A contrarian view: I wish I had seen a measurement video before we bought our Travato G. Certainly wouldn’t have deterred me from buying the G, but it’s always better not to be set up for disappointment. I was shocked at how small the fridge actually was when we brought it home and went to stock it. It looks bigger from the outside profile than when you open it and realize it’s kinda shallow (you may not think so, but you probably didn’t go into it with the expectations I had). And I thought that was a full-depth vegetable bin on the bottom and then I pulled it out and it was - what did you say? - 5 inches deep? I called a “Potemkin fridge“. It’s fine - wayyy better than the K’s dorm fridge on the floor, but it’s smaller than it looks from the outside, IMHO. And I suppose my opinion is influenced by my experience of receiving a van that had a nonworking, apparently nonrepairable fridge. Been waiting for a new fridge since July. Grrrr (no idea if it’s a Novacool problem, a transportation problem, a Winnebago problem, certainly it’s a La Mesa problem for not testing the fridge before they sold it and sent us out on the road with a dead fridge, but the net result is that it’s become our problem. Sorry for venting, but refrigerators kind of set me off these days! Appreciate the video. Update: got a call from La Mesa and after several months of waiting, the refrigerator has arrived! They will install it and test it over the next few days and then we can pick our T up later this week. Huzzah!

Very cool tour Scott. I think I could live in one of these vans if I was travelling alone but with my wife I feel it would be too small. Personally I am looking at going with a pickup truck dually with a truck camper. Stuck between the Northern Lite and the Lance. Take care buddy. Cheers!!!

watch Van Trekking Lifestyle and the awesome travels that couple does in their Travato.. They are not full time -- most of us won't be... but they are doing some long extended trips together. some folks really like truck campers... Love both PBR and Shiner! I'm considering rehoming my 2003 Class B Sprinter (Xplorer Xtreme) and the Travato G is one I've been considering, so thank you for the detailed kitchen tour! A couple unrelated questions, do you find the driver's seat comfortable and does it have adjustable lumbar support? I've had two back surgeries and my Sprinter seat is amazing, so this is important to me. Also, is there storage beneath the dining bench? Thanks again!

Hi Fred’s Mom. I find the cab seats to be comfortable. They are firm and one sits up straight like a dining chair. Might visit a Ram dealer and sit in the cab seats., if you can’t find a Travato dealer. No storage under the beach seat as it contains the Truma furnace / hot water system.

Can you change your galley window to side open so you won’t have to worry about mistakenly opening the side door?
@steventoney4018
@steventoney4018 4 жыл бұрын
for that specific window... that would be a smart and good option.. not sure WGO would do a combo of sliding and awning windows but that is a logical choice for the galley window. the window would need to be larger for equivalent ventilation
@gosmall.livelarge

Two different styles of windows. Love my awning style, just don’t shear off the galley window. use the reminder sign
@steventoney4018

got to remember the sign... ;-) I expect I would be so concerned - I would not open it.. everywhere else these would be great -- a bigger slider in this one spot could give ventilation without the worry.. older folks like myself are a bit more forgetful........... crunch day would be so sad.......I do think they come screwed shut
