Tim Keller sermons via Gospel in Life: Religion poses a danger of creating division or intolerance between groups of people. However, the gospel lead us to three things: humble service, reconciling behavior that is neither patronizing nor self-righteous, and a love toward people who hold different beliefs than we do.

This is a really fascinating talk and I think would fit well with the Alpha Course. I think we can hold an absolute faith in Christianity while also recognising our own personal limitations in our understanding of the mystery of the Trinity - and so approach others with a humble awareness of the limitations of our own understanding.

An additional blind man came along and explored the elephant by walking around the whole animal touching it (and smelling and hearing it) -- rather than being obsessed with one part. He gave a lot of different aspects from his research and said that he discovered that a man standing on the ground cannot examine much of the elephant, since it is taller than a man's reach. He said that ladders would be necessary to get a more full answer to the elephant question.

A mother gave birth to a child without asking it first. A mother would punish her child if it is naughty and does not think that she is the one who offers an environment in which the child can be naughty. She is the mother and the child has no choice. It's not fair. Shouldn't we judge all mothers instead of having a Mother's Day !!!!!

All Glory to God...The Holy Spirit doesn't speak of himself...John 16:13 (KJV) 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. What of the Holy Spirit....Christ in us our hope of glory..... There are many who have a form of godliness and deny the power thereof.... and 1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. Knowledge ....it shall vanish.....Then What......Adam, First Adam, Flesh....Last Adam, Christ, Spirit...Spirit and Truth came by the Lord Jesus Christ...a per son come in the Flesh, yes...son of man, born of a woman, Son of God...yes. Flesh and blood didn't reveal that to Peter but the Father in heaven.....

31:00 “if you believe you’re saved by performing the truth, you’ve got to be superior to other people”. well if you do not “receive” the gospel the way keller does, then you must be inferior.. you are not performing the way God needs you to in order to not be condemned. how is this not the same thing?

Christ's warning about false prophets did not state that ALL prophets would be false, for the system of prophets and apostles was to perpetuate (and did) after Christ’s departure - Mat. 17:15, 1 Cor. 12:27-28, Acts 13:1, Acts 11:28-30 Not all churches are true. Not all churches are created equal. Not all churches preach sound biblical doctrine. 2 Nephi 28. Many false churches will be built up in the last days-They will teach false, vain, and foolish doctrines-Apostasy will abound because of false teachers-The devil will rage in the hearts of men-He will teach all manner of false doctrines. The "17 Points of the true church” of Jesus Christ that I heard about that started me on this whole Bible study project Explanation: Shortly after joining the church, the missionaries we had over for dinner one night noticed that I was taking notes of Bible scriptures that backed up LDS doctrine. They told me about a tape that I could get of a talk called “17 points of the true church”. “17? Wow, there are 17 scriptures in the Bible that prove the church correct? Neat!” But rather than drive the 50 miles to the Seattle Temple (which has a church book store next to it) from Whidbey Island, I just decided to find them on my own. This document, which I have nicknamed “The 17 Hundred Points of the True Church”, is the result of my tearing apart the Bible in an effort to find the buried treasure - the 17 points the missionaries had told me about (but by the Lord’s wisdom, had not actually given me). Neat how things work, isn’t it? Below are the original 17 points that come on the little card with the cassette tape I bought at Deseret Books, which is from the accompanying tape of the wonderful testimony of Mr. Floyd Weston. 1. Christ organized the Church - Ephesians 4:11-14 2. The true church must bear the name of Jesus Christ - Ephesians 5:23, Colossians 1:18 3. The true church must have a foundation of apostles and prophets - Ephesians 2:19-20, 1 Cor. 12:28 4. The true church must have the same organization as Christ's Church - Ephesians 4:11-14 5. The true church must claim divine authority - Hebrews 5:4-10 6. The true church must have no paid ministry - Isaiah 45:13, 1 Peter 5:2 7. The true church must baptize by full immersion - Matthew 3:13-16 8. The true church must bestow the gift of the Holy Spirit by the laying on of hands - Acts 8:14-17 9. The true church must practice genuine divine healing - Mark 3:14-15 10. The true church must teach that God and Jesus are separate individuals - Heb. 1:3, Acts 7:55-56, John 17:11 & 20:17 11. The true church must teach that God and Jesus have bodies of flesh and bone - Luke 24:36-51, Acts 1:9-11 12. The officers of the true church must be called by God, not taken upon by themselves - Hebrews 5:4, Exodus 40:13-16 13. The true church must claim revelation from God - Amos 3:7 14. The true church must be a missionary church - Matthew 28:19-20 15. The true church must be a restored church (previously removed, then re-instated) - Acts 3:19-20 16. The true church must practice baptism for the dead - 1 Corinthians 15:16 -29 17. By their fruits ye shall know them - Matthew 7:20 ** Why are these things important? - Hebrews 13:8 As too why we are here: 1. We all lived with Heavenly Father in a premortal life before Earth was created, and we are supposed to return 2. Mortality is a school of suffering and trials. We are here that we may be educated in a school of suffering and of fiery trials, which school was necessary for Jesus, our Elder Brother, who, the scriptures tell us, 'was made perfect through suffering. 3. The Earth was created to act as a temporary proving ground so that mankind could have the opportunity to willfully choose good over evil in a perfectly designed, balanced, level playing field for spiritual progression (an actual plan designed for man's progression based on living according to faith).

"Religion poses a danger of creating division or intolerance between groups of people. " Well, yes, it does, especially christianity. Matthew 1. "He that is not with me is against me." 12:30 2. Cities that neither "receive" the disciples nor "hear" their words will be destroyed by God. It will be worse for them than for Sodom and Gomorrah. And you know what God supposedly did to those poor folks (see Gen 19:24). 10:14-15 3. "Whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." 10:33 4. jesus will send his angels to gather up "all that offend" and they "shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth." 13:41-42, 50 5. Jesus tells us what he has planned for those that he dislikes. They will be cast into an "everlasting fire."25:41 6. Any city that doesn't "receive" the followers of Jesus will be destroyed in a manner even more savage than that of Sodom and Gomorrah. 6:11 7. John the Baptist says that Christ will burn the damned "with fire unquenchable." 3:17 Book of John: 1. The "wrath of God" is on all unbelievers. 3:36 2. John, with his usual anti-Semitism, says that the Jews persecuted Jesus and "sought to slay him." 5:16, 18 3. If you don't believe in Jesus, you will "die in your sins" (and then go to hell). 8:24 4. Jesus is the only way to heaven. All other religions lead to hell. 14:6 5. Those who do not believe in Jesus will be cast into a fire to be burned. 15:6 2 Corinthians 6:14: Paul requires that his followers separate from "unbelievers:" "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" Mark 6:11 - King James Bible (Cambridge Ed.) And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city. 1 John 2:22 Who is a liar but the person who denies that Jesus is the Messiah? The person who denies the Father and the Son is an antichrist. 2 John 1:7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world. They refuse to acknowledge Jesus the Messiah as having become human. Any such person is a deceiver and an antichrist. Revelations 3:9 Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lie-behold, I will make them come and bow down before your feet and they will learn that I have loved you. You must kill those who worship another god. Exodus 22:20 Kill any friends or family that worship a god that is different than your own. Deuteronomy 13:6-10 Kill all the inhabitants of any city where you find people that worship differently than you. Deuteronomy 13:12-16 Kill everyone who has religious views that are different than your own. Deuteronomy 17:2-7 Kill anyone who refuses to listen to a priest. Deuteronomy 17:12-13 Kill any false prophets. Deuteronomy 18:20 Jude reminds us that God destroys those who don’t believe in him. Jude 5 They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Fuzzy Wuzzy you're right. anyone who rebels against God needs to be punished according to God. His world his rule. But the wrath and pubishment that Christ took on himself is to rescue and set free all who will believe.

I am from non-Christian family background and culture, where I experienced worst of human nature and evil against human race. When I heard about Jesus sacrificing his life to redeem our sins, and his the love, kindness and forgiveness etc, I knew he is the hope of this world. The fact that refugees and illegal immigrants risk their lives to get to those Christian based countries tells us without the true God, this planet could be turned into hell anytime. God does not punish sinners, the wages of sin is death, if someone chooses to take drugs, he/she will suffer the consequences. There are many parts of the world where you could visit and starting to thank God we have have Jesus or there will just be darkness and despair.

Joseph。why is it so difficult for you to understand that everyone can be Jesus’ own kind as Long as they accept his message? Before Christianity was spread to the the Roman Empire and later the rest of the world, nobody was on His side, millions heard the Gospel and believed. God gives everyone the choice to believe him, those who don’t won’t want to be saved.

Joseph “Jesus” can’t save those who don’t want to save themselves. Doesn’t take a fundamentalist interpretation to demonstrate that.

Presbyterian’s religion is far more dogmatic than the traditional Christian denominations . Although traditional churches have religion as their core ,their religion has foundation within Holy sacraments as well as the freedom to be born again. The concept of faith based belief is not exclusive to new age Christianity. Unfortunately new age Christians believe in the dangerous notion that we are always unclean, not worthy and only by the grace of God are we saved. It’s not liberating to think you are saved by faith alone because your view of salvation is not based on humility but rather on been a cripple. Imagine I indoctrinated my children to think they are weak and incapable unless they obey me as a parent and except through me they aren’t worthy. Modern Christians don’t acknowledge so many saints who have died for their faith. How many of your faithful are prepared to die for Jesus today ? I believe that we are the breath of God and although we sin be have never lost the spirit of God within us. What your religion is based on is that you have never lost the stigma of original sin and you are only free when you acknowledge Jesus Christ as been the ultimate sacrifice and although traditional Christians also share that belief we do not spiral down in been unworthy but rather see the resurrection as the end game. Ultimately the Orthadox view of Christianity is about life. We do not believe is graveyards but the Greek’s name a graveyard a place of sleep because we believe in the resurrection. What amazes me is how beautiful Tim’s sermons are and in his words he preaches life and yet his denomination drives him towards the cross and death rather than life.
