I know, a lot of people hate Dan but I like his character and I love his development. He's the good guy turned bad, it's not done often enough. He despised the upper east side mentality, but living in it made him change because otherwise he wouldn't get ahead, it makes complete sense. If you notice, when it's revealed that he is gossip girl, nobody even cared. They all laughed about it and were making jokes. With the exception of Blair and the only reason she was mad is because he beat them at their own game, flawlessly, I might add. If you hate Dan, you don't understand the show. They're all morally bankrupt. They're all backstabbing each other. It's comes with the territory. Which is what Dan is explaining in this scene. You can't hate Dan without hating every other person on this show, besides maybe nate. The only difference is, they were born in it, he adapted to the life. If you think about it, dude won on so many levels it's insane. Not only did he manage to beat the upper eastsiders at their own game, but he reinvented the rules. Dude went from a nobody to being in the most popular group of upper eastsiders. From Brooklyn rat to dining with the elite. If Blair is the Queen of the Upper Eastside, Dan is the King and he had it the whole time. He had them beat before they even knew who he was. I think his character is the best on the show, bar none. Followed by Blair of course. Dan was right and because of his backstabbing and trickery, he'll be remembered as a goat of the upper eastside, which is what everyone wants.

He always judged everyone on the upper east side but he became just like them. And he was deceiving them since they didn’t know that while he called them out when they acted like bad friends he was being a bad friend too exposing their secrets which resulted in trouble for them. Um she bloody dated him and loved him for the majority of the show, she never called him poor or Brooklyn, never degraded him from where he came from, never excluded him bc he was an outsider, she was if anything the only one and the first one to notice him out of the main 4. Just think about it he did those things to completely toy with her feelings. He loved Blair and was just using Serena to distract himself. The only reason why they ended up together is bc he realised he “loved” her later on he wasn’t planning for a serious relationship with her. If he didn’t fall back in love with her he would have 1) used all those devices to make her love him bc he knew she did 2) written the expose 3) left her again heartbroken. The only thing that changed without his knowing was step 3) To this day I am left utterly confused on how the writers made Serena forgive him, it made her character look weak which she isn’t. Dan is an ass here. A complete asshole. He 1) plays with Serena’s feelings 2) betrays all of his friends and lovers 3)tries to justify it and doesn’t even admit he made a mistake 4) did I mention how he played with Serena’s feeling with the word love (he was the one who was whining about how love is an important thing to say in season1-2) whether you likes Serena or not doing this to anyone is just cruel, especially someone so vulnerable around you 5) he was gossip girl. And another thing with his justification about telling the truth, I mean if your a decent human being, sometimes even though it may be true doesn’t mean you need to shed light on it Eg. someone: my dad died Dan: *writes about how their dad died and how the person has issues bc of it* Someone: how dare you write this about me Dan: I did nothing wrong it’s the truth Well duh it’s the bloody truth doesn’t mean you can be cruel about for an expose for selfish reason especially if that person is someone who has only cared for you Dan is such a dick here. There is absolutely no way you can justify otherwise. Screw dan and his endgame. His character was so much better in season 1-2. Chuck was a rapist. Dan may have done things that were pretencious, but unlike the others, he wasn't morally bankrupt. He didn't emotionally terrorize people like good old toxic Blair. Dan and Serena ended up together. However, they deserved strong character development as the season progressed. If Dan’s a gossip girl, he should have the strongest character. It felt like Dan and Serena was just an early fling which was strong in first and second season but after that makers wanted to establish Dan and Blair relationship which was going good but everything changes and Chuck ended up with Blair and Dan with Serena, this is where I was disappointed with the makers. Dan would have been good with either Blair or Serena. Makers messed up, last season was rushed.

I don't know if my mind says the right thing but how did Dan and Serena end up with each other? I mean, clearly Dan never felt the same way again and Serena would only get interested in him back if another girl shows up in his arms. You know, like when someone else holds your toy that you were supposed to let go. Edit: there's a reason why you need to be careful in dating, either the background or if the other is a writer. Writers are powerful. Nothing could be more painful than be killed with words.

How can people side with Dan? I can understand feeling this way in high school when he was a nobody being picked on. But now he’s a 22 year old man. It’s not a great look. Most of these people are his friends now, and he still burned all his bridges just to make a name for himself. Even if he’s writing the “truth”, the truth is subjective. Who’s writing the truth about him? That he became a petty, manipulative person who’s biggest gripe is he wasn’t born rich, or that his only talent is writing about the “elites” he went to high school with. Dan could’ve become a writer on his own steam. He didn’t need to stay in their orbit if he found their lifestyle so grotesque, but he wanted to be one of them. He always did. Doesn’t anyone else find that a tad hypocritical?

Unpopular thoughts, Dan is right and I don't like Serena at all. She always finds a way to make things about her. I don't understand why she attacks Blair or anyone for that matter. She was mad at her dad when he tried to have a connection with Lola/Charlie yet her mum clearly gave her a reason she couldn't see her dad when she wanted to. She was mad at Blair for kissing Dan but when she had a chance, she didn't choose him. I still don't know why she hates Jenny. She's always mean to her mother And the part that annoyed me the most was when she tried so hard to ruin Blair's relationship with Dan. I mean, Blair would've been so much happier without Serena as her so called best friend. Also, she never pays for anything she does. Lol i needed this rant

He was gossip girl therefore he has never been a good guy. NJBC were horrible to each other and they got over it all the time cause that's how they were, it's not a good, healthy dynamic but they were family to each other despite the hurt and pain. Dan and his circle knew this and still wanted in. If you hate them, why do you want to be with them? Walk away, be actually mature and 'good' to do so. But he didn't want that, he wanted to be with them, and be like them. And again, he was gossip girl, he was like them since the beginning and still wanted to have moral superiority over people who at least knew they were horrible 😭 You can't say you were good when from the very start you were manipulating and harassing these people. NJBC did very messed up things but they knew that and didn't pretend to be different, which is the difference with Dan.
