Get that stuck lug off or BOLT off (for the poindexters who want it exactly right but still call an engine a motor!)
Do so at your own risk
Don’t go too crazy, you don’t want to cause too much thermal stress

You should heat the area around the lug to expand. Not the nut. If the nut expands and not the area around the nut, it gets tighter.

You have to imagine the wheel being on the car. It's practically impossible to heat the area around the lug nut. This trick by this gentleman in the video is actually very clever. Would've never thought to use butane to cool the lug nut after. Impressive!

Impact already rattles the nut back and forth so there's no need to go tight and then lose is a waste of time. The hammer in your Impact gun already gives you that effect.

@jdmtechllc6589
@jdmtechllc6589 10 ай бұрын
Here in the comments keyboard commandos will tell you just get a bigger wrench or hit it with a bigger impact, you may very well snap them off, but even worse than that, if they just spin and go nowhere, that’s even worse. I have also seen a friend cut a lug nut apart with a little Dremel tool, you have to apply the heat, and get to working on it fast, because Heat will spread to the stud quickly, you can also try working them back-and-forth a little bit, but you should definitely replace all the hardware on that wheel end

This was a bolt style wheel lug, not a stud like you are dealing with, I cleaned up the threads and inspected them, ended up just replacing the bolts all the way around the car, due to the customer constantly buying tires at the local used tire gunnemdown till it stops type of stores, it seems these guys never heard of a torque wrench. But back to you, I think you have two choices, the truth hurts….ready…? Do it now… or do it later on the side of the road after a ruined outing. I’ve watched them, I see it every day you got to let the tool work for you not against you and a lot of people have the tool work against them and they’re fighting it

@@peterbilt9996 earthquake and snap on and if you look at their harbor, freight tools they’ve been updating I don’t know if you’re in the automotive industry but if you look at those two tools, you will see a very close semblance. I don’t care what they say but they’re made by snap on this is snap on cheaper version of their tools like their Bluepoint, I don’t care what they say. Everything is identical are there in a little bit of markings here and there is different earthquake electric impact it is actually better than the snap on one as far as price it is ask your heavy duty here and they’ve done a test side-by-side snap an earthquake, and if I remember right the test the snap on failed I don’t have a problem with Harbor freight tools I just won’t buy they’re cheaper version tools are use them and commercial in the industry in automotive they work they got a lifetime warranty on them why spend $50 for a tow when I could spend 20 and it does the same job same warranty and it does the same thing it don’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out so what you have to take it back to the store to get warranty or you pay a higher price in the snap on dealer comes to you that’s why you pay a higher price over the last 40 years snap on has increased their prices they haven’t went down and less you are a friend with a dealer and you will get deals. If you’re not going to basically pay full price and that is very hard to get you have to buy lotta tools be friends with the dealer talk to him a lot. Hey sister bunch of crap electronics across-the-board has a same warranty for every company 90 days one year Home Depot, Lowes Sears, handtools lifetime warranty, but on craftsman’s can ratchet 3/8 half-inch quarter inch there new design is garbage if you put any pressure on it, he will pop and reverse on you the old style ratchets I didn’t like them because they didn’t have that smooth chrome feel to my hands so when they changed over, I started getting my ratchet warranty. Well I had to pull out of my toolbox because, they’re putting week springs in them when you pour and put a lot of pressure on them the reverse wall pop and go the other way or it will slip so as far as craftsman hand ratchets I wouldn’t advise using them if you’re putting a lot of pressure on them because they’re total garbage. Even if you take it back you could get the same junk, you’re better off going to Home Depot or Lowe’s and getting their brand craftsman ratchet are garbage now they’re not even worth having I would use them for a paperweight or this home use in the house that’s the way I feel about them that’s how much they went downhill there is total garbage I used to be a big fan Sears craftsman, not no more their wrenches sockets screwdrivers, but if you go to the screwdrivers, you want to go the pro line they’re made out of a better metal they’re regular screwdrivers I think it’s his pop metal because I broke more than enough of their screwdrivers, I can’t count how many I’ve had warranty I’ve basically quit using them even write down the home use they remind me of the Cornwell Torx bits and Allen heads. I got one replaced the dealer standing there and I broke it three times and I finally just told him here’s a setback discredit my account. I don’t want your bitch the garbage know as far as her wrenches, sockets screwdrivers you’re OK, Milwaukee, Home Depot I don’t have a problem with four cordless tools they all have the same torque don’t do 12 oh I would do 20 or higher but you want to go cordless and their screw gun do you want to use their impact side do you want the cordless impact screwdriver screw gun it starts out screw and then it impacts I’ve had many of different name, brand, cordless guns, and as far as harbor freight they have quite a few limes there that are good I have those, but they’re a junk design you could tell when you have a junk tool or not if you work with tools enough a lot of guys in the automotive industry buy their tools at harbor freight they’re tired of going in debt. It’s got the same warranty at half the price and it does a job. I do the same thing I got a set of the impact sockets I’ve had for 30 years never broke one yet that set an impact socket if I go to snap on, I’m paying at least two grand, I pay $25 over 30 years ago where can you beat it so I don’t have a problem with Harbor freight tools cheap as far as price quality is there it does the job and it does the same job snap on studs half the price snap on rapes you and they don’t use that Celine and they smile about it their credit department, no matter what your credit line is if you have A1 you get smacked at 28% no matter what your credit line is good or bad

@charleslease9280
@charleslease9280 Жыл бұрын
And another reason why bolts don’t come off like they should is people do not know how to use a torque wrench after they’re done, especially lug nuts you were supposed to torque every lung nut on the wheel. There is a torque spec for them people get a four-way or breaker bar and they tighten them until they hear a crack. No, that is wrong because if you do that, that will get hot cold, hot cold and it tightens it up even more that’s why you have to torque bolts nuts to the proper specification. These Joe blows shade tree guys don’t do that they think it’s going to be extremely tight. There is torque specs for this type of stuff Half of the bolts would come off like they should if they are put on correctly if you would use the gold and the seas on a lot of things not the silver because the gold holds more temperatures it can get hotter that’s a big factor you have to use Anna sees where it’s needed Every wheel I takeoff goes back on and it gets torqued with the torque wrench. Every bolt gets torque with a torque wrench that I put back in. You don’t have to zero out every nut and bolt out there. That’s why people have so much trouble getting them off in rust is the biggest culprit.
@Jamedia66
@Jamedia66 10 ай бұрын

I get it but he means lug bolt in this case, also try this before heating to avoid burning your clear coat off, and you loosen it with the impact until it moves and slows and binds then you tighten to get it to move in again, what happens when you do this is either rust or dirt is on the exposed part of the stud inside the hub, as you loosen it that rust gets jammed and packed into the threads and if you force it you will snap it and have a bad time, by going back until it begins to bind then forward and the back again you essentially break that stuff free and when you tighten it allows it fall off in theory and it should continue coming father and farther out until it's past the end and comes out hope that clarifys and helps some from burning their paint off because it will begin to peel and flake around that area just from the heat dissipation and hot air in those small lug holes, try impacting it first before heat use that as a last option

@charleslease9280
@charleslease9280 Жыл бұрын
Because they didn’t start the lug nut by hand or they did not torque those lug nuts is the biggest problem they need to quit making for waves discontinued them because that is the biggest problem. People stand on them put a bar on them, and there’s no reason to tighten the lug nut until you hear a crack that is not tight you were just warfarin that rotor and ditch store in that rim, if you torque the Lugnuts, it’s a even pattern your rotor won’t work and you’ll get your Lugnuts off easy it’s just like talking to hit you have a sequence and you torque it to the specs if you do not but head will warp and torque. Wrenches, are not that expensive They have them out there with lifetime warranty husky seers you don’t have to buy $1000 torque wrench dish to talk to Lugnuts. They come calibrated if you want you can get them calibrated once a year by a machine shop or the manufacture but it’s cheaper to take it to a machine shop, but most torque wrenches do not go out of calibration and less you abuse them when you’re done with the torque wrench you run it back to zero you don’t leave that tension on because it stretches the calibration and throws it out

Biggest problem why people can’t get lug nuts off after wheels been put on. It’s because it was not torque properly. It was just ran on with the air gun, so damn tight it’s not even funny that’s why they break and they’re seized up. They’re grounding to those rims, if people with torque lug nuts like they should be because they have a torque spec scale for each lug nut. You could look it up online and see different size bolts have different torque specs, Lugnuts on vehicles have torque specs it depends on the size of the bolt.

Gosh….why didn’t I think of that……thank you so much for the great tip….next time, I will just spray some weak cleaner spray on it…….and put the brute force down with a breaker bar till it snaps….. You cant get near these threads with the wheel on, this is a demonstration of what had to be done to save it, and it works every time, but you are right its not common sense, its above that, we are using thermal cycling here like astrophysicists and have saved many parts with this method and variations of it introducing shock and PB Blaster; Furthermore, WD-40 lost its luster a long time ago, it is made in Sand Diego California if that tells you anything, the can used to say, combustible, now the stuff is barely flammable, it should be called WD-41 California Edition….useless. Try PB Blaster, try heat, try shock, be careful, you won’t be disappointed. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@jdmtechllc6589 they work for me and strangly enough, it's never broke off, but doing the tight, lose tight, lose method, however, has failed me so really it's what works best for each individual person the way you do it might work for some the way I do it works for other I personally don't like the idea of using a highly flammable gas to cool down a glowing hot bolt just doesn't seam safe to me soooo for the sake of argument let agree to disagree 😉 and have a blessed day. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see the next tip

Even Americas tire guys are bouncing of the torque wrench like the goal is to make it click, and like they are so cool. But the fact is they over torque your lugs too then the rotors are warped and all the did was check with to torque wrench that the lug was OVER spec Like ✅ its at 658lbs/ft WELL that ain’t coming loose ever again 🤪

For starters that's not a lug nut that is a luck stud bolt and you can avoid this by putting your lug studs and lug nuts at torque spec they usually have a stick that goes on the end of the gun or you can just use a plain Jane talk wrench it ain't hard it's a 19 mm it's usually anywhere from 110 to 125 ft lb and if it's a 21 mm on a car it's anywhere from 80 to 87 ft lb hope this information helped you out

I used language that most people can relate to there Traee, this makes it searchable for anyone, this is a common thing you do when you try to produce content to assist a general group of people, but if you really want to get technical shown here below is what BMW calls them, right from the site realoem.com: 03 Wheel bolt black M12X1,5 20 36136781150 $3.21 Second I did not install it, I was just the guy that had to remove someone's screw up to get my job done as requested by the client, third you can go to americas tire website and get the actual torque specification for the specific vehicle, and I torque things professionally with a calibrated snap-on digital torque wrench because the clients deserve your precision and professionalism when they pay for service. I hope that info helped you out as well... Thanks for watching, like and subscribe.

Not sure, maybe you should ask the customer who owns and drives the car… My complaint about the tire shop related more to the overnighting of the fasteners and that they sold the female owner of the car a pretty used up, USED tire, she says she didn’t know until I pointed it out, and she was sure glad I let her know.
