Jen! Just getting back my “sewing mojo,” after an about 8 year garment sewing pause. I have finally opened up my Brother coverstitch after buying it over 2 years ago. LOVE this machine, and look forward to using this guide for my coverstitch work, since that is the one drawback I find with using it. I found it hard to get a straight stitch. The putty idea is a GAMECHANGER, problem SOLVED! I purchased the first “dad gadget” as well, and this one is even BETTER! Thank you and dad for your passion to make sewing much more enjoyable and for helping us to get more professional projects!

Yay, I'm so happy to hear!! I had it on my list to share how to use these with my serger and it kinda fell off my list. My Dad gets a kick out of trying to find things for me to share on my Channel! Plus, he's a wood working craftsman! He makes all kinds of things from furniture to little wooden cars, trucks and even a school bus for my daughter's third grade classroom! Lots of things crossover between sewing/drafting and what he does. We have a lot of fun talks about how to get accurate results!! Thanks for following along and Happy Serging!!

That’s wonderful. My neighbor is a woodworker. I asked him to make a clapper for me, and I couldn’t be happier 😀 Nice, crisp pressed seams and edges.

Three cheers for Dad! I hope he keeps hunting because he does find cool tools. Also, thank *you* for consistently pointing out the focal point when sewing. My mama and my grandfather (a retired bespoke tailor) taught me to sew many decades ago and while my handwork was topnotch, it was literally decades before I could match it at the machine--because neither of them told me where to focus. I suspect both of them knew instinctively, so it didn't occur to them to tell me or perhaps they weren't even conscious of doing so. Your telling makers where to focus is no doubt preventing many frustrating experiences.

:) I think that's true, much of sewing becomes instinctive... I try to remember to mention little things that can be helpful! Thank you for watching

I agree with this. Nobody ever told me where to focus my attention either, but I somehow developed that skill over many years of sewing beiing conscious of it. But it has become important to me recently as I have been teaching my grandchildren to sew. Thanks for the tip!

@@RosieCarl It took me many years (over 20, no kidding) before I figured out where to focus. Part of it may be because I started out hand sewing--in hand sewing, you look at the point of the needle and I kept doing the same at the machine.. I remember my grandfather showing me how to do a simple hand sewn buttonhole, supervising me until I could do one that was okay, then handing me a bundle of scraps and telling me to come back when I'd done 300 and then he'd show me how to do the keyhole variation. It's still easier for me to contemplate hand sewing a buttonhole than it is putting one in using the buttonhole feature of my machine!

Thanks so much. I bought the first tool and discovered both screws that came with it didn't fit. I have an older Babylock model so just emailed the asking if they sell a screw that will fit. I also asked if I could use the magnetic version you list below. I already owned this curve gadget but was unable to use it since the screw also didn't fit. My hubby tried to buy screws for it at a local hardware store--he bought a few different sizes, but none of them fit right. If Babylock doesn't have a screw, I'll use this mounting putty. 🙂
@JSternDesigns
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
:) I was really happy with the way the mounting putty works with this gauge....Because you can squeeze it into the recessed bottom. The guide will be flush with the bed of your machine if you keep the mounting putty level with it. Thanks for watching

This looks like a great gadget. I use the other one all the time, although it wasn't too happy with the really thick fleece I was sewing (more like a teddy bear fleece) but all thinner fabrics, just fantastic.

Thank you so much for your tutorial. I recently saw this product and immediately bought it, thinking it would be useful for my boyfriend who does leather work. Most especially handbags now. When it arrived, it came with an additional piece that was a long straight piece that sort of looked like a foot at the end and a squared piece at the other end. I have not seen anything like this. Any idea of what it does?

Do you think this tool would help with hemming formal gowns cut on the bias using a hemmer foot?
@JSternDesigns
@JSternDesigns 8 ай бұрын
The tricky thing about bias is that you don't want to stretch it as you hem because it can distort the shape of the edge... I would have to practice with it to see if it helps. (sorry I don't have a better answer right now ...adding this to my "get to it" list!

Would it help to move the guide towards you to line up with the front of the pressure foot?
@JSternDesigns
@JSternDesigns Жыл бұрын
That's a great question... I'm still playing with it. I think I'll fine-tune how I use it as I get more experience with it. I think it's like anything else, the more you practice with it the better it works because you pick up little things like exactly where the sweet spot is... Thanks for watching
