@@swayback7375 i can kill them as well. However im both a conservationist and animal lover. At my home,i have vegetables growing on the 4 acre property but so you know my family comes first an I'm not going to allow bandits to destroy my crops. Secondly #KampKenan possums are worse than raccoons(reasons listed) they Dig underground where your regular turtle red foots, cherry heads, spotted turtles etc, even around your Sulcatas,Galaps and Abracadabra tortoises lay their precious eggs. So keep that in mind, and they will either ate the eggs, destroy nest sights or worse kill outright any of the smaller turtles. Third, possums like Raccoons have 5 digits(like us) they can hold on to prey items while it's struggling to get free and eat them like it's a free buffet 👀

These things are unfortunately inevitable with an outdoor facility like you have. Even still, I really don’t think these animals could be in better hands. The lengths you go to ,to provide for them is entirely inspiring. Basically, any animal you come in contact with gets a second chance at a better life. Unbelievable. Even the trash panda! Even If my cats get on the counter, I consider ending their lives every time 😂 . Keep being the best Florida has to offer! proud of you.

@Claire Meger If you've ever had the opportunity to work with animals you would realize that they are so much like us in every way. They are intelligent, emotional, and feeling creatures with complex thoughts and sentiments just like you and me. I understand that expressing empathy for a racoon is hard when society has labeled it a pest and a nuisance, but if you try to focus on the commonalities between you and the racoon, realizing that we are all so much alike, it becomes a whole lot easier.

Raccoons are very territorial. One of the reason animal control doesn't relocate raccoons is because the already-established raccoons will kill it. It's also unfair to the established raccoon community, it throws off the hierarchies and destroys the peace and causes even more unnecessary injuries. He didn't save its life. They say it's kinder to euthanize it. They use the scent glands from male raccoons to evict female raccoons from under houses if they've made a nest. If a male finds babies they'll kill them, so if she smells it she'll move her babies.

Hey just a thought, I know what you've already done in terms of electrifying your fence - but these creatures are insanely smart, and my immediate thought was that they're climbing over your non-electrified GATE as an obvious vulnerable spot. These guys are persistent and intelligent and if they know there is a buffet on the other side of a divide they will find the weak point and exploit it. Climbing over your gates is not a hard thing to do at all for a raccoon.

I install security cameras for a living and the Ring Cameras are absolutely the worst and far overpriced while being a network security issue. People can attack your Home Network via the Ring units as they can be tricked to give up your Wifi passwords in the clear. Ring units have been known exploits that allow anyone to hijack the unit and use it to attack your network and exposed anything on the network to exploitation. You should go with maybe and Armrest Units that are cheaper and provide the same services with all the security. For $400 you could have got 7 Armcrets PTZ camras for that price. So happy you're not harming them. As an animal lover, I understand the anger, but we've got to understand that these are wild animals who just needed food. They're not just mindlessly killing, they're exhibiting the same predatory behaviours that so many of us find fascinating in the animals we keep. Good on you for getting past your initial anger and letting these guys go on their way.

We had the same problem while conducting a Diamondback Terrapin study in a nature conservancy on LI. The raccoons would dig up the nests and also eat the newly emerged hatchlings. The people running the preserve wouldn’t trap and relocate them but in hindsight it probably wouldn’t have mattered. The area was a wild estuary surrounded by lots of woods, probably home to innumerable little “bandits” breeding out of control! I eventually devised a constructed a “stove-pipe” shaped, hardware cloth “cage” that would be dug down over the new nests. They were buried too deep for the raccoons to dig up and the holes were just big enough for the hatchlings to get through. We also wound up incubating quite a few clutches indoors. All in all our efforts were successful as the number of terrapins increased greatly and continues to do so in the greater NY coastal areas.

Thank you for continuing to show compassion for wildlife. I get wanting to protect your pets when you love them as family. But people also have to accept that wildlife exists. Its hard finding a middle-ground with wildlife, but wildlife doesn't see property lines as before a house was built that area would have been the home of wildlife. Its nice seeing someone who doesn't turn immediately to killing wildlife at a time when people are slowly killing wildlife by taking away their territory.
