Had the same ploblem 3 weeks ago, changed the flow and return, changed the blocked canoe filter, pressure sensor and expansion vessel. crack in the heat exchanger at the flow connection. I used J B Weld High Heat compound from Amazon. used a tube and a quater, mould it like putty and covered the entire joint from the copper pipe and the plastic heat exchanger, left it for 24 hours, joint sealed . saved the cost of a heat exchanger. compound was £8 a tube

Nice! I'll have to check that out 👌🏾
@laubielaubscher6 ай бұрын
Dont sweat it, it feels rubbish but its sadly a common occurence. Had one exactly the same when I swapped the new copper f & R. Now when I do it I never pull the old pipes down, but rather twist them side to side to get them loose before I pull them down. This seems to allow the joint to free and release. No one understands this occupation just us engineers who share the experiences. Youre a cracking enginee,r never forget that!

Had something similar today, serviced a 19 year old baxi 105. Multiple missed calls and abuse later because I left it not working apparently. (I’ve got pictures of all my readings whilst I was there) put a right downer on my day! I’d advised it needs a rebuild/replacement but the torrent of abuse I got down the phone you’d think I’d flooded the house… it’s a fun old game this one
@Chubby_T05116 ай бұрын
Sounds about right. The abuse is usually born out of the customer not wanting to to take responsibility for wasting money on some ancient piece of junk rather than replace it.

There's just no need for the abuse we get from some customers. Ultimately we're there trying to help and advise. There's only so much we can do

I feel your pain, I’m retired now but after 40years doing repairs on any make of boiler and appliances I think back and it’s not worth the hassle, the stress the loss of sleep. As you said over thinking the job is the biggest problem. Don’t want to sound boastful but I had very few call backs, you just don’t get the money for the hassle you get . Years ago when boilers were simple you could carry minimal spares on the van and just about repair anything, as I use to say to my customers I could have a articulated lorry outside full of parts and you wouldn’t have the part you need. Looking at the parts you’ve fitted to that boiler it would have been more cost effective to fit a new boiler and get a 10 year warranty. All the best.

It is like a punch in the guts but as long you have been thorough there s not much point worrying about. Remain calm attack the issue in a focussed and logical manner. Most of the time the customer wants a resolution which is usual means repair it. There are a few who want compensation etc so make sure you PI is in place.

Can't be any worse than my mates today. He went to replace a turbine on a old ravenheat.. for some reason he pulled the full hydrolic blocks and pump out of the boiler. Almost every nut n bolt and clip, he called me as he was struggling.. I walked in as he was surrounded by every tool he owned, every washer he had and the boiler was in a million peices... I could not help but burst out laughing... he got it back together and turned the water on... every single joint leaked and then flooded the PCB lol..He was there all day and he eventually gave up lol... I felt bad but had to laugh.
@hali53416 ай бұрын
Mate those raven heat boiler only boiler so far that has shut me down, I couldn't fix it properly. I did the mainheat exchanger the year before, come back, replaced so called bullets proof PCB 3 times, changed the pump and pressure gauge, then found out the plate had pin hole leak. I tried my level best with the plate, had to remove the left hand side just for one nut, then realised the nut on the right hand side needed removing meaning I have to take the complete right hand side out...boy I feel you pain, raven heat DID NOT and DOES NOT supply you with any washer at all, I gave up in the end just put the plate back on which I couldnt remove almost there, and started to leak. Told the customer time to get new boiler as I said to him the previous year

@@cputilitysolutionsso you have places to get parts from previously used boilers? Can you rely on them? I'd not feel safe tbh 😬 In Russia, especially after our government started war, we have a lot of unoriginal parts, most of them are reliable and fine overall. That's the alternative if a customer can't afford originals or you can't get them at all (yeah, it's a big problem rn)
