I am a white woman. Grew up with then called the "underground" music of the late 50's and 60's. I had to hide the fact that as a young white girl I fell in love with black music. I would have been demonized then....but hung on! Motown, became my passion!,,,the greatest artists....now and forever! I am now 68 yrs old.but my heart is still of that of a 15yr old...Motown forever....miss you Marvin...Otis...Sam Cooke..James Brown...Barry White...David Ruffin...God Bless!

Marvin Gaye was one of the greatest entertainer back in the 70s. I remember seing him on soul train. Every Saturday me and my family gather to watch soul train @ 12 noon. That's the only thing I had to look forward to on the weekends. I love music I listen to my ole music still till this day. It's in me I can't let go of the ole school music.

You said it all sista Brenda, 12 noon, Saturday, that time was blocked, we had fun, learned how to dance different styles, how to dress, Hair styles, had a big fro then, those were the best times, seeing those live concerts, no special effects, that was real talent.. never be again, thank you sista, yo brother from the heart 💃🕺😎

I got all the good music from the 70s and 80s that I still listen to today. That's when the best talented groups and solo artists could actually sing and perform live back in the day.

I grew up in the era of Marvin & Tammi Terrell and all the 60's beautiful Motown giants. They were and still are the icons of Black Music. They were the ladder for so many artist. Smokey, Barry Gordy created a fabric in history with Motown. No music will ever supersede what Motown built.

My mum introduced me to the whole Motown sound with her 45’s and few LP’s that she had. I was born in 1973. Many a happy childhood memory listen to this discs playing on the old stereo in my Parents house when I was younger. Got loads on cds later but with advent of KZbin etc I can find sheer gold every time something pops into my head. Respect Sir!

Men showing off their moves to women, who said that they were insane for dancing so hard!!! Marvin Gaye at his disco finest. I know this song - well - and when I heard "Blurred Lines," I didn't even think of this track. Having had the whole thing enter into litigation, I came back to see if I had missed something. I don't think so. There are percussion elements that are similar and the arrangement of both tracks are minimalistic (as most Pharrell songs are) which can lead an untrained ear to sensing a stronger connection than actually exists. For example: Both songs feature percussion and bass with vocals. That's all. No piano, no strings, not much in the way of back-up vocals. The phrasing is also similar because both songs are so relatively simple. The bass line travels in different directions, though. I bet P has a bunch of tracks on his MacBook that sound like this with variations that some would still connect to Gaye's classic. If Pharrell ripped-off Marvin, Neo ripped-off Superman.

I completely agree. I have heard this song so many times, and when Blurred Lines came out, I didn't think of this track either. I may have thought of Marvin Gaye, but I don't think Thicke or his producer stole anything.
