Hi Baz, I have been waiting for this review. I think for once I agree with you about the abalone. I love abalone myself, think that's a girly thing but I think if they had just left the abalone around the soundhole and not put it around the rest of the top of the instrument as well, I think that would've looked much classier. I would be curious to hear what these instruments would sound like with a low G. Bit too crisp for my liking if I am honest, but stunning instrument of course. I am not usually into sunbursts either but that is stunning! Thanks for the review Baz!

Absolutely beautiful! I would definitely get one if my budget allowed. Thank you for sharing. It's nice to hear and see all possibilities. ❔I do have a novice question. This Singer has a strong percussive kick when you strum it (to my ears). I have a tenor (laminate Leolani ebony) which has that same strong percussive sound when strummed (again, to my ears). It's like having 2 instruments in one. What makes that sound? Is it the body? Is this common with tenor ukuleles? I've heard other tenors, but not as strong. I only have one tenor, so I am not sure. With my soprano and concert ukuleles, I hear more of a jangle. With my tenor, I hear more of a boom, (when strummed) and I don't just mean volume. 🥁🤔

Looks and sounds superb. My only concern is the super thin top and bracings.... my moonbird top, also very thin, has deformed a bit around the bridge area after 5 years (I use the relatively high-tension worth browns, but still it's faster than I expected 🤔)
@GotAUkulele2 жыл бұрын
I discussed dipping tops with a couple of luthiers - so long as they hold and don't get worse, it's actually a good sign - means a thin top. Most old vintage Martins will display the same. I've seen several Ken Timms that do too

I think that, if I had the money, the presence (or absence) of the abalone wouldn't bother me. Mind you, it would be well-looked-after and only brought out for special events and joyful home playing. Cloud cuckoo land with that price, I'm afraid, though - my budget is right down at the other end, and each time I still have to follow the one-in, one-out policy which my wife instated last year (at the seven-instrument point, but which I managed to usurp once with getting the iUke because it was so small, and then again with the kazoo...)

A beautiful instrument.. If I could justify that money to myself (and the wife😂) it would have to be for an authentic Hawaiian brand, built by with some crazy curly Koa. It’s a lot of money for a Chinese made instrument. I appreciate I’m going to get roasted here 🔥🔥🔥
@GotAUkulele2 жыл бұрын
I don't agree - I think the 'Hawaii has to cost more' point is a myth. OK China is still a cheaper place to buy but - that is rapidly changing and they are entitled to a cost of living uplift too. To add to that - an equivalent uke like this would not be a K brand I don't think (or at least not a stock entry level K brand) - would be more like the deluxes and specials. They cost quite a bit more than £1,700 Take your point though and own a K myself - I just think the price differences are getting much closer
@MissPoshosho2 жыл бұрын
@@GotAUkulele I’m definitely in support for better wages in China. I used to be an importer and money aside the work conditions ‘can be’.. well.. not what you’d want for yourself. I didn’t make my point well :) what I meant was I have a Flight Carabao with a MISI pickup. Im adding on some decent strings to taste, through a LR Baggs DI through the hall of fame reverb, out of my Fishman loudbox. I can really shape the tone of the Uke to sound ‘high end’. Maybe a Moonbird would sound 20/30% better (I don’t know) but for the justification of the money (and it’s a lot). I would want something with more of an artistic collectors item feel. i just think at that price point it stops being about the sound and more about who made it and what it’s made from ie. Premium /Master Grade Curly Koa.
