Yea Goku is pretty strong at this point compared to this version of Buu. If Vegeta fought together with Goku they could have killed Buu. So the writer had to knock Goku out pretty good writing or else the story ends.

I feel like Goku knew that with Vegeta gone, who would have handled this entire situation with zero emotion, he had to tap into that pure blooded saiyan mentality and fill that void. Vegeta plays such a pivotal role & you realize it after his fight with Majin Buu. He wasn't the hero, he wasn't the villain, but he was damn sure someone that you wanted on your side.

I think people understandably disliked it (at least in the West, I don't know the Japanese view on it) because it does have a jarring tonal shift from Z, which was way more popular than DB in a lot of places, the shift away from hand-drawn animation, and Goku's character change back to something more inline with the original DB. Personally, I like that Super is goofier because it's a foregone conclusion that the good guys will win in shonen works, so they can take the piss out a little and have more fun. I definitely do have my issues with the series, though, just like I have my issues with Z.

The one I'm refering to is Dr. Fate, there were many different Dr. Fate in DC along the years, but one was the fusion (or Gestalt) of husband and wife creating a magical being that carried the mask and cape of Dr. Fate. This one was one of the most powerful Dr. Fate that we get to know of (not the most powerful anyway). By the way the Dr. Fate appearing in Black Adam film is a different Dr. Fate.
