The era an anime comes out can be important for the weirdest reasons. Code Geass's mandate from Sunrise was just to make some new, non-Gundam IP to sell mecha model kits of cool giant robots. Hyouka is low-key one of my favourite anime. It manages to create a lot of tension and emotion out of very "simple" situations. It follows teens through their perfectly normal life, but somehow gets you incredibly invested in the mysteries they try solve and their emotions. Fun fact, this year, I went to Takayama and in a random kimono shop, I spotted some Hyouka merch (literally their only anime merch), and when I asked the clerk why they even had these, he gave me the first edition of a map he had gotten there local tourism office to make: turns out the author was from the same high school in Takayama as the clerk and used the city as the basis for a lot of the anime's places. Turns out I had just found someone else who was a fan of this super underrated anime plum in Japan's countryside.

Hyouka is a very beautiful masterpiece of slice of life and mystery. Oreki Houtarou, a bored student enters the classics club because his older sister said so, but there he finds Chitanda Eru. Eru keep asking him things and discover that he have Sherlock Holmes capacity to solve mysteries.
@brookdevonshire319 Жыл бұрын
Hyouka is one of, if not my favourite anime of all time. It's a sort of low-stakes mystery/slice of life show, but the characters, presentation, animation, and tone just absolutely propel it above so many other things. It's... both very familiar to a lot of shows, and yet unlike anything else I've , at least personally, ever seen. Absolutely recommend to anyone. As for the story, follows a classic literature club, who essentially act as a sort of detective club, investigating mysteries around the school and diving into a lot of interpersonal drama. The main character is a really apathetic guy who doesn't really care about... anything, but due to that he has a very logical brain that he can use to investigate and observe much better than anyone others. Due to some external meddling, he has to join the club and deal with the much more active members of the club who pull him into these mysteries and they use him to solve them. His growth over the series is a big pull, and how the other characters, especially the main girl, effect him.

Hyouka is a novel that parodies classic detective novels from the early 1900's, specially the Madamme Agatha Christie ones. Oreki Houtarou, the main protagonist, is a solitary guy which amazing deduction skills who wants to conserve energy but ends living a "Pink-colored highschool life" His best friend is, by his own words, a "Database", he has an absurd amount of trivial knowledge but he's incapable of connecting the pieces together to solve the mysteries. He's a parody of Watson and Hasting, who are Sherlock Holmes and Hercules Poirot assistants. Another friend is Mayaka Ibara, a short girl who wants to write mangas about detectives since she loves them, usually she gives Oreki the key to solve the mysteries. She is a parody of Miss Marple, one of the most famous characters of Agatha Christie, even in the series she's a fangirl of Agatha Christie. And then there's Chitanda Eru, a girl who's the representation of the "reader". She wants to know more, she wants to discover every mystery, she's the key that leads Oreki, Ibara and Satoshi to solve the mysteries. It's a really good show, it's animation its incredible and comparable to new animes despite being released on 2011. Each of the "arcs" of the series are based on a famous novels, so it became way better if you have ever read those and you can understand the references.

There are a handful of shows that have great banter between characters and Monogatari is pretty unrivaled in that, with the other stand out being Spice and Wolf. If I can make a suggestion, you have previously said that you would do an endings video for Bookworm and March Comes in Like a Lion. You could combine them into one video. It would be a bit long with 7 endings, but its probably better for views and easier than making two separate videos. Hyouka is one of those masterpiece like Violet Evergarden. it tackles Realistically what is a Japanese Highschool club in the country side. it is not that too hard like violet evergarden but the life lessons is what makes this anime a masterpiece. the reason why Hyouka don`t have that much advertisement is because it is a slice of life genre which is not that impactful for a lot of not hardcore anime watchers.

For future op reactions I would love to see: 1. Undead Girl Murder Farce's opening "Crack-Crack-Crackle" by CLASS:y, 2. Zombieland Saga 1st opening Franchouchou "Adabana Necromancy", 3. Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion's op "Survive" by MindaRyn, 4. Paripi Koumei's "Ciki Ciki Bam Bam" by QUEENDOM and as a treat you should definitely listen the full song for Raven of the Inner Palace's ending song "Natsu No Yuki" by krage (it made me cry lmao, it's so good!)

Monogatari has multiple OPs even within one season. One for each "story." It's definitely my favorite anime.

I ve been asking Luke to react to Code Geass since I suscribed to both channels. So... when?. Not sure if code geass is gonna win those pools someday, because even popular, Shounen genre is like always winning because is the most popular genre, while most deep and dark animes are being always cover in the secondary channel.

Hyouka (hyo-ka) is a slice of life story about solving mysteries. Animation studio is Kyoto Animation (the goat) and is really pleasant to watch. 22 episodes long. One of the best looking anime, especially at the time of release (2012). The endings for Houka are performed by the voice actors of the 2 main female characters and the 2nd one is especially awesome. Other Kyoto Animation reactions I'd love to see are Chuunibyou demo koi ga shitai (2 seasons) (english title: Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions) which is a slice of life/romance anime and Kyokai no Kanata (1 season) (english title: Beyond the Boundary) which is an action/fantasy anime.

Opening recommendation from me: 1. Knights Of Sidonia 1&2 (Sidonia No Kishi). Those openings give a lot Attack on Titan vibes but not quite. They are very unique and I love them very much (the anime itself is pretty solid too tbh). 2. Bravely You - Charlotte OP You definitely heard it the "top 100" opening videos, its just very solid and widely accepted as one of the best ones out there. It's not leaving my playlist ever. 3. Princess Principal OP1 This one could possibly one of the your favorite OPs of all time. The vocals are absolutely amazing and quite unique

Code Geass is one of those rare shonen with the depth and complexity of a seisen, like FMA or Shingeki No Kyojin. This kind of shonen where the fights are useful and not used as a pretext for the show.

Oh you want more recommendations? I'll give you recommendations~ Gunslinger Girl: The opening is literally my favourite anime opening of all time. And the anime itself is pretty good. The Pretty Cure Series: A series of anime whose openings are so consistently great for so long that it's criminal it's not seen more. Black Rock Shooter: Both the 2012 anime and the Game opening. The game opening is done by One OK Rock so that should fit your palate~ Digimon: You said you were interested in doing these a long time ago and so I'll bring them up again now~

The Monogatari series has a little over 100 episodes and a movie trilogy. I would love to recommend it, but it's so hard to get into. I left my opinion in the last reaction, watch Bakemonogatari and continue if you wish to. Also make sure to ask about the watch order when you eventually end up watching it. The show is long and there is a lot of debate over what parts should be watched in which point and what not. This is because the story is told out of order which is part of the reason why it's so interesting. But yeah it's a little over 100 episodes in total plus three movies. About two years of weekly episodes.

The Monogatari series has one of the best artistic directions in anime... or at least one that really stands out. It is a bit ecchi tho...

And also, across its dozens of seasons, the episode count goes up to 90 or so, with 3 short movies

Hyouka is a really good slice of life/mystery anime with slight romance...... and animation is really good compared to the time it was released. It basically is a story about a boy who joins a literature club & they start uncovering mysterious events in their town... With slightly become more and more connected with the people around him & changing him but still kinda remain as himself. I still remember feeling so warm & happy inside watching some scenes.....

Code Geass is still after all these years, one of my favorite anime, it has a wonderful story and characters, especially because they are flawed, they are Hippocrates at certain levels, and that only makes them more human to me, because they are not perfect and have trauma and personal issues they have to work through, many consider this a failing of the anime, and it might, but it all complements itself so much, the story, the characters, the fights, it all blends so well together that at the end of it, it is still one of the best endings in anime ever. so yes my recommendation is to watch Code Geass, either sub or dub, i find both bring something to the table with their performance and are equally worth it.

Hyouka is such a beautiful anime! It was made with so much love. I watched it in 2012, I was 17 back then and I didn't get it at all, I mean, it was a nice story, almost boring I would say. But then I re-visited like 3-4 years ago and I LOVED IT. I have watched it a lot of times because when you are 25+ and remember what you were and what you wanted as a teenager, you can understand the story behind this group of kids solving puzzles.

Hyouka is done by Kyoani studio same people that did A Silent Voice, Violet Evergarden, Miss Koybashi's Dragon Maid, Lucky Star, Nichijo, The Meloncholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Clannad amongst others. It's IMO there Magnum Opus but sadly a lot of people tend to overlook/turn there nose up for not having much hype, gimmicks, or a pseudo Harem of waifus, or it being a SOL that is not a CGDCT. But for those of us that like it its truly special. MC isn't really depressed so much as bored, lazy, and a little jaded, its about him discovering what it means to live a Rose Colored Life in a Coming of Age Drama that also mixes Slice of Life, Romance, and "Whodunnit" style Mysteries, it has a lot of subtext and metacommentary, its one of those shows where you need to pay attention watching to get a good experience and where it benefits from multiple rewatches. Its personally one of my three Holy Trinity of subtext heavy dialogue driven Novel Adaptations alongside Monogatari and Spice and Wolf. Second OP of Hyouka I like because of what the symbolism of the Girl pulling the MC out of the glass means (BTW you tend to take a lot of OPs that are meant to be symbolic way too literally.) First OP you've heard the singer before BTW its ChouChou who song the first OP to Girls Und Panzer. I hope you react to more Monogatari OPs since you've literally only done the last third, and when you saw them they weren't all as sweet as this one, so I guess you forgot, the OPs are the kind that need to be understood in hindsight. Monogatari is another show that you need to pay attention to but its even more "arthouse film" style than Hyouka (Plus more "cheeky" as you put it.) That relies on a lot of wordplay and language puns and games around the Japanese Language and is VERY dialogue heavy. So you might not like it. I personally find Code Geass and its ending Overrated but you might enjoy it. I hope you react to Hyouka someday and not wait till you get a popular vote, because it might never win with your current audience which I don't think really appreciates the type of show Hyouka is.

Monogatari is huuuge but so good. It's definitely is darker than what the opening entails but Nadeko is very much a ball of cotton candy personality wise.
