SPOILERS FOR BOTH THE ODYSSEY AND THEREFORE POTENTIALLY EPIC: The entire Odyssey would have happened either way except for two important points: 1. The gods, many of whom already don't particularly like him, would already hate him, and 2. Because of that, his journey may well have been even longer. At best, he'd make it home and have ten? Fifteen years with his family? But more likely, he'd be popping up around the same time Hector's son is rolling up to kill them all.

@@felixhenson9926 of course he didn't. But that's the trick the Gods always play. And the fates, and the prophets. They say something that's Technically Correct with the implication that they're helping, say it in a way that gets the mortals to do what they want, and the mortals who listen to them get fked because of it. So what /was/ the point? If Odysseus had raised the infant then their course could have been totally different. Would it have been guaranteed better? No. But neither is the future that Zeus is steering him toward. I do understand that Greek mythology is rooted in the idea that everything is predetermined and there's nothing we can do to change it. But that sounds awfully convenient for the Gods, who get to use that to manipulate mortals.

This whole musical is based on The Odyssey. It's an EPIC poem by Homer describing Odysseus' journey home after the Trojan War. It's amazing when you know the story but it must be even more incredible when you don't know the story since it's almost like how people in Ancient Greece would have been told the original poem through song and spoken word

In my head canon, Ody was just daydreaming of finally getting home in Full Speed Ahead, then Eury kinda got right behind him and startled him with "Captain..." What Ody actually said was "You're really close!", but since the crew thought he was saying Eurylochus and repeated it, Ody just went along with it... 😂

Epic is based on the Odyssey, the story of Odysseu's return home after the Trojan War. A little insight into Warrior of the Mind: Warrior of the Mind happens entirely inside of Odysseu's head. Athena in the musical has a power called "quick thought" in which she can accelerate the thoughts of a mortal and essentially converse with them in their mind, which is what is happening in that song.

You mentioned the guitar during Full Speed Ahead. In case someone hasn’t mentioned this, each character has their own instrument. Odysseus has a guitar that changes based on his mood- acoustic= chill, electric= battle mode/emotional Polites has a mallet, like a xylophone Eurylochus has the crew sing with him. Athena has the piano. Whenever you hear a piano, she’s watching/able to see later Also, Athena can pull Odysseus into this mind scape thing whenever she wants. It lasts a moment in real time, but can go on for however long they want while inside. It’s called Quick Thought, and can be indicated by whenever a clock starts ticking or has the weird warbly sound (like when young Odysseus jumped and time slowed down)

I don't think you noticed but each time you hear a ticking sound during a song it means Athena is coming and has pulled the character in her mental space to speak with him or she's going through Odysseus' memories it depends, this is one of her powers in Epic and it's called '' Quick Thought '' :D

Quick little comment about Jorge's voice fitting so well with the style. Another reaction guy commented on how seeing as Jorge wrote the music then it makes sense that he also tailored it to fit the range he is comfortable in. The guy even identified like "this one particular note? Yeah, he knows this is the money-maker for him, so it makes sense he writes it in as much as he does." Oh! And Jorge also held open auditions over TikTok and such to find the voices for all the roles, and he pretty much left it completely open. Anyone could audition for any role regardless of if their gender matched the OG character because Jorge's main goal was to find the voice he felt would *really* mesh with the given characters. Which he also backed up by suggesting alternate roles to people who had autioned for some other character originally. f.ex. one of the female voices auditioned for Zeus (Luke Holt got that role though and he absolutely *kills*), but was offered Circe instead. And I think the man who voices the only named suitor so far originally auditioned for Poseidon, but was offered to try for Antonious or Thiresias instead before it was settled on Antonious after some test-singing. Jorge absolutely loves the musical and has been determined to /deliver/ throughout. And he's such a sweet, fun guy, so everyone gets sucked in only to get punched in the feels by the music sdjkfskfd

Fun fact time! - Almost all characters are designed after the people voicing them, including are current main trio: Ody, Polites and Eurylocus. - Also, characters have their own "signature instruments or sounds": Ody - guitar, Athena - piano... - Gods can summon their own choir while "singing", but mortals can't, their background vocals are always the other people / crowd around them. - Many lines and musical motifs will return later, so watch out for them, cause those will be... i n t e r e s t i n g . . . About Full speed ahead: - Eurylocus could be seen as the voice of reason and the will of the crowd. Polites on the other hand is the optimism and the "need" for peace. About Open arms: -The little creatures are called Winions (there's a reason, but it's a spoiler). We, the fandom are also called that. About Warrior of the mind: - When Athena and Odysseus start singing together you can hear that during the first "warrior of the MIND" Ody makes a playful bend in the last note while Athena keeps it straight. Yay! Was wondering when this would come back. Love the triple feature! :3 Also, pronounciations and names: - Polites (Poh-luh-tees) - Eurylochus (You (as in Europe) - ryh - lyh - kuhs) - Odysseus (Oh-diss-ee-uhs) - Mirscy (Merch-ee) I think) Centering a story around war and the later events is a great way to get a very angsty, emotional story. So many opportunities. So it's no wonder that many a story follows such events. I love how Polites and Eurylochus are like the angel and devil on Odysseus' shoulder, in some ways. One wants a peaceful resolution, the other is quite ready for a violent one, being sceptical of human kindness where is expecting it. Also, Open Arms marks the moment you have been introduced to The Winions. Fandom mascots in some ways, and recurring creatures with varying forms but always small and marketable looking, that tend to be quite... chaotic. Also the collective name given to Epic fans. "If not friend, why friend shaped?" - Polites on the Winions. Divine Sugar Momma, Athena, is here, yes. Honestly, Athena's view might be somewhat callous, but what she's clearly setting out to do, isn't all bad. It has benefits for Odysseus too -- skills it teachers him, and perks allowing him to better protect those he cares for. She's currently frustrated and warning him, I think, in "Warrior of the Mind", and while it's not done in the best way possible, it's clear she's as skeptical about this as you were when you grimaced a bit before the preceeding ended, after the Winions suggested the cave (?). Also, I can't wait for you to watch Gigi's "Puppeteer" animatic. Jorge's music for that and both Eurylochus' and Circe's singers are phenomenol in it, but I think Puppeteer showcases Gigi's continuous improvement in her craft really well. I enjoyed your reaction, and I agree on quite a few things you've said, but won't say which because some of them might venture into spoilers territory. > >

He is the king of Ithica and the captain of his fleet. He is married and has a son who he wishes to return home to. Take note of the instruments used and melodies for each part of the song. It also tells more about the story. For example, in Warior of the Mind, the way Athena & Odysseus sang differently with the first mentions of "mind". Then Athena copied the melody of Odysseus, indicating that they are already connected. Also, nylon guitar is used (with same melody) whenever Odysseus is emotional and distorted guitar is used (with the same melody) whenever he is cunning or getting ready to fight. It's a challenge to determine all these motifs with each introduction of characters and story. :)

I stated this on another one of your videos but fun fact each :D character is represented by a musical instrument. Odysseus is guitar and athena is piano and so on. So there individual instruments make up the songs. Also this is all based off of homers the odyssey but its changed and not in order for reasons. But polites is also his best friend from childhood and Eurylochus is actually his brother in law. Also there is a total of 40 songs that make up this whole musical. Jorge also wanted this whole musical to feel like your watching a anime or even a video game. This whole musical is awesome but be ready for a emotional roller-coaster. Fun fact tho as well before I end this comment is all the singers he found was on tik tok just by doing duets. Also jorge was originally going to be a heart sergeant but decided he wanted to work theater instead :D.

Oh oh! Another one! The Odyssey takes place directly after the Trojan War. Epic of course starts right as it ends but is a reimagining of The Odyssey. Info on characters that never gets explained: Eury is the Ody's Brother-in-law. Guy married his little sister. Polites barely appears in The Odyssey but we do know this: He is Ody's best friend. To be fair one of the Lotus Eaters says: "The Scary Cave" quietly after they all happily say "The Cave!" *OH-DISS-EE-US* He listened to the gods because Zeus said: Kill the infant or as you get old he will come and kill your wife and child while burning your throne. No promise of a good life, just a promise that his loved ones won't get butchered by the child in the future. There is a cut song called "Your Light" many people might tell you to listen to it. It is solid but since it never left 'development' it is a different singer for Polites and has no real place. Jorge may have said where it takes place in Epic but I don't remember. Pretty sure it takes place before the next Saga though, so if you decide to listen to it I'd do it before you listen to the next song.

as I'm sure people have said it is indeed the story of Odysseus! It's based on the ancient greek epic poem The Odyssey by Homer. So yes its based on greek mythology! If you're looking for pronunciation then its Oh-dis-ee-us, lots of the fandom call him Ody for short as the full name is a mouthful. The other characters you met are Eurylochus (Yer-rill-eh-cuss) or Eury for short, and Polities (Pol-ih-tees) his name is pronounced almost like politics just with a different ending, if that's helpful. Learning ancient greek names is rough so don't beat yourself up over it! It took me forever to remember them. Looks like you've got a good playlist set up already but I have one gathered on my channel as well if you're ever missing a song. Excited to see you react to the rest!

Fun fact. Every character in the story is represented by an instrument: Odysseus= guitar, Eurylochus= chorus, gods and mythical creatures by some electronic sounds .... Jorge took this idea from another musical. Watch his video about it.

I'm really hoping Luke goes for the AnniFlamma animatic of Ruthlessness when he gets there, it's just so darn good. (Anniflamma does my favourite Poseidon. It's interesting how I have different favourite artists for different Epic characters. Mircsy does my favourite Polyphemus, WolfytheWitch my facourite Athena, and so on.)

There are two great Greek Epics. The Iliad covers the Trojan War. This one, The Odyssey, covers Odysseus' journey home after the Trojan War.
