Thanks for this video 🖤I'm gonna mention an 'old' and a 'new' issue here: 1. Pretty privilege This includes body shaming, and some self-picked idiots acting like divas - I met so many girls who were skinny, but needed to make fun of everyone just to make them feel prettier than the average. The last place I had to leave was a messenger group chat where some girlies were making fun of someone from an alternative clothing group - they took the effort for bullying a gender non-conforming person behind their back, because the "prettiest" girl said it's okay to do. Same type of people made me feel very uneasy 10 years ago, when I was CONSTANTLY bullied for being curvy (not even plus size back then!) and having red hair as a ginger. Guess what, all of them dyed their hair red and instant got so full of themselves. 2. The.Amount.Of.Corn. I just can"t. I hate it, I hate people are so vain but need to cosplay us for getting attention, even Reddit is full of murky, messy photos, where young people are overly sexualized, and looking for cheap validation. No, it's just vanity. Tumblr is just so much worse with all the links, and it makes me feel a 100% discomfort. Tried to look up plus size goth fashion? Pinterest gives me a few results - but again, hyped e-girls, and thin people. I really miss random fashion blogs like Sophistique Noir T_T

Ok, but the last comment hit so close to home! I've always loved 40s fashion and dieselpunk and thought n**i uniforms were quite beautiful. But I've since met goths who dressed in this kind of fashion and almost all of them were quite r*cist and far-right. I've since decided not to dress in that no matter what. Unfortunately, I feel goths tend to be quite passive and non-confrontational so the people I've mentioned roam freely among us, along with some known predators and nobody says anything. Sometimes I wish goths would keep some of the punks' attitude.

Can I get that really, really soft shirt in black? No? Fine, I'll adapt. Most days I don't go the full-tilt makeup, hair, accessories, because again--my main criteria these days is comfort. I may get back to the brocade and black eyeshadow days, it's perfectly possible--but if I go outside, I'm still in a mask and dressed in something I can relax in. My goth ick is when people who’ve been goths for a long time pick on baby bats for stupid reasons, like they’re kids leave them alone, and the hatred for body types, fat and skinny, to me as long as you’re not pretending to be a goth or whatever we’d be chill, but attacking someone because of their body doesn’t really look good, being mean has never made anyone any prettier, I don’t see the issue for people of all body types to wear things, so what if fat people wear something? So what if skinny people wear something?? They didn’t do anything malicious so leave them alone

tbf baby bats arent just kids goths, either, right?? doesnt it just mean newcomers to the goth community/subculture?? it seems silly, always has, to make fun of someone for being new to something as if to expect them to be 100% perfect in it the instant they learn about it. whether it be drawing arts or fashion choices for self-expression in your favourite aesthetics, its just a strange thing to want to mock someone for being new. literally everyone started somewhere, everyone has been new at something at some point.

That's what confuses me about those who insult babybats, Like were you not one before? It is very common in A hole human nature. Like when a working class person gets higher and higher up the lader of the business forgetting where they started and how the "big dogs" treated them and then treating others the same. It's a sad reality for a lot of people not just goths that some people just treat others bad for being new to something the same way they where once treated. 🖤🕷🦇🕷🕸 Which is why I welcome babybats and general curious people with open friendly arms so they in turn will also be friendly to others until this babybat mocking is gone 🖤🕷🦇🖤🕷🦇

Hii, i rly liked your video, but I think we should stop saying "just listen to the music" since goth is MAINLY about music. U can't be a naz1, racist or conservative and goth, that basically makes u a poser. I would say goth is also political, but I don't think it's the right word to use. Sorry for pointing out such a small thing, I just think it's important to speak about it, especially since there's lots of misinformation on TikTok and that's how there's more and more posers around. (it's not like we can keep them away from the subculture anyway lol) besides that I totally agree w u, especially when it comes to putting other goth ppl down for not being trad. It has been getting out of hand recently! 🖤🖤🖤

OH no! I fully agree! The thing I always say is that the political views of being goth are like a terms and conditions when you take the title of a goth. I also love informing people that goth music clearly shows are views, we don't like Naz1s, rascits and don't believe in gender noms. We have songs talking about how stupid these things are and those poser goths who say that no song has ever said that clearly never heard the song naz1 goths F*ck off or boy's don't cry which is literally a joke and made to make fun of the stupid saying itself. Any tiktok vid I post about joining the subculture I always meantion yes it's music based but there is a little fine print you gotta look at before using goth as a label 🖤🕸🖤🪦🖤🕸🕷🖤

I hate how babybats have come to me telling me these awful storys of how "goths" who don't even know the true spookyness of being goth have got mad at them and then refused to help them! Now if somone is just using the term Goth as a trendy label to get views on thier content without actually knowing the meaning behind the subcultere then stopping them from boiling it down to an aesthic I'd say it's good. It's a grey area where a discussion definently should be held but in summary for those wanting to learn it's bad those using it for popularity it's good. 🖤🖤

I've been Goth since 1998 and I literally had an argument with a non-Goth over this girl on Tik Tok and whether she's a "poser" (I know nothing about her beyond what was in that video and at no point did she even say she was Goth... she just dresses alternative as far as what was shown so if she isn't calling herself Goth at all how the hell could she be a Goth poser in the first place? 😂) and I told this person it didn't matter how the girl dressed. That is never a metric. The ONLY metric for whether she's Goth is whether she listens to the music. This person came back with "Well, we can't judge her by that because we don't know what she listens to!" And I was like "Exactly. And since that is literally the only way to be Goth...🤷🏻♀️" And then I pointed out that you can dress like a soccer mom, you can BE a soccer mom, and still be Goth because it is not a fashion trend, it's a music subculture. I am still not sure why non-Goths care at all but apparently, thanks to TikTok, they think they have some sort of vested interest in a scene they normally have disdain for...so that's weird. 😂 I am ecstatic to see this new wave of Baby Bats coming in and so many of them are trying to educate about what Goth is as they explore.... but there's also this wave of people who think if someone is wearing black, they must be Goth. It feels like the 90's all over again with that. And there are various types of Goth, both with music and fashion, and yes, all of them are equally valid, as you said. I personally never liked the sound of Cyber Goth music or the fashion (I like it on others, it's just not my personal style) but those Cyber Goths are just as valid as my Morticia Addams looking ass listening to my Trad Goth wishing I had the money to dress in the Romantic Goth style. 😂 We're all freaks here and what makes us great, what has always made us great, is the different styles of music and fashion the word 'Goth' contains. I am interested to see the music and fashion these Baby Bats add to the mix as they come into their own. Oh my God, I cannot believe after all of these years of shouting at them that they will never be welcomed, the racists STILL have not taken the hint! We are having the same problem with Paganism right now....two groups that are as unfriendly to racists as possible and they want to claim both? It will never happen. They are nothing but posers. We will never ever claim any of them. They can fuck off with their Smiths records (no offense to fans of the Smiths...all offense to Morrissey) and their copy of Mien Kompf (or however you spell it) and leave our communities out of their group of sociopaths. I blame them for why, every few years, we all have to once again remind everyone that there have been black Goths (and Goths of every other race but the question seems to only ever be about black Goths specifically) in this subculture since its inception. Goths, the ones who are not total assholes (every scene has some), welcome in everyone who loves the music....Well, everyone except racists. We love our black Goths as much as we love everyone else. This is a scene full of misfits who found some joy in the music so as long as you are not a racist, if that sounds like you, you are welcome in this community. And anyone who says otherwise probably falls into the above category of the one group of people we don't accept so....fuck 'em. 😂

It's hated cause SHEIN is everything goths hate, they use child labour, underpay their works, it's fast fashion which ends up polluting the planet plus thier clothes have been confirmed to have traces of lead in them. Do not fear! I am sadly also british! and most of my clothes are from vinted! It's CRAZY cheap on there and you can get so much basic stuff to style and cheap bits to DIY as well! I just got a jacket for 3 quid to make into a battle vest. You can even look up the word goth or gothic on vinted! Remeber goth isn't about the fashion and don't worry if your wardrobe isn't your dream gothic wardrobe in one day it will take time, mine took 5 years and i'm still making the clothes I won't, If you able to I recommend learning to sew it's so much fun and will help you with making your clothes too! 🖤🖤

My ick that runs in the goth community is everything you see about it now, is not how it always was and "80's" goth is not the only "true" goth. The 90's and the early beginnings of the 2000's was probably one of the greatest times in Goth. As long as it was still dark, there wasnt a problem with it. The music and the fashion coming out at that time was crazy amazing. The attitudes and the free thinking was like no other. Then something happened and it all went to shit and we got what we have today.. I dont know what it is but its all shitty now and Ive isolated myself from the "scene". The clubs and all that is just terrible. Probably cause EVERYTHING is now goth. Im not trying to gate keep but, I dont want to hear metal or stupid trance music or 5 songs by NIN play back to back at a club where people get mad cause they dont know how to dress and dance. I live in Arizona where people are just behind on everything and dont know anything. Theyre haters and envious. I grew up in the goth clubs of Los Angeles. Best time of my life and yeah, there were people that knew you were new and snubbed you but, they were always watching you from a distance secretly watching your journey and growth in the subculture who would eventually and rightfully acknowledge and give you the deserving respect. That was my experience and how I was raised in goth. Im 40 now and not retired but, I keep it a secret. I hide my goth and only those lucky enough have seen me in my true form. Like a mythical unicorn or Pegasus, only to and for those of pure heart and true belief 🤭 It all just becomes lame when people take it WAY too seriously. People should be having fun with it, not stressing themselves out about it.

I love that at the end! The Mythical gothasus! I agree with you people take it all WAY too seriously now, like can we not use vibe any more? Why does it have to be a constent at whos the most goth? or who knows the most about a band or something like that? Why does it have to be a big proving yourself comp?? I don't like when some alt clubs list themselves as a goth, punk, emo night when all they play is Nu metal and MCR or when goth clubs play the same 8 common well known goth songs over and over, I like them and nothing wrong with common/popular songs but mixing it up and introducing babybats to other songs would be better. I love the subcultere but I do wish people would be more chill and only really hate on the gross Racists who think they're safe in the subcultere. They're the real issue not someone not wearing makeup 24/7 🖤💀🦇🖤💀🦇

Huh I'm sorry to hear that be your experience in AZ. Where I'm located isn't like that at all where i go(I live in AZ). I've seen people just showing up in a t-shirt and shorts or their work clothes and I've heard more than just goth music play. Although it is majority goth, I've heard ebm and industrial etc before. Even main stream music before performances 😂

My major ick has to be that transphobia has become so much more prevalent in online goth spaces recently. Fatphobia too.

Re being a better goth... I saw the cramps and the bolshoi and the banshees and nick cave and numan and alien sex fiend and bauhaus the sisters and the mission and soft cell and Depeche mode and sex gang children and the cult and spear of destiny and many many more while they were still young... am I a better goth? Nah, just an older one
