Lydia was the only goth character in the first movie, everyone else just dressed mostly in black because they were part of the artsy/high fashion scene. Also in this trailer they are all dressed in black because it’s a funeral service not because they’re all goths. I think part of the humor will be that Lydia’s daughter ISNT goth.

Exactly. Lydia is apparently still into her old goth style (likely because she‘s part of the medial ghost hunting business), so of course her daughter would oppose that. As kids do.

Remember, Otho ran away after Beetlejuice put him in colorful clothes. Probably all the way back to New York, never to be seen or heard from again. By the way, I met Glen Shadix (Otho) at a convention back in 2002. Super sweet man. He did the voice of The Mayor from Nightmare Before Christmas, and I didn't even have to ask. :)

Slow down the video to .25 speed during the casket scene. As the casket is lowered into the grave, you see Charles Dietz picture on the tombstone. So confirmed the"dad died" part.

I think we can kind of assume the story from the trailer- Somebody, probably the father died, they went to the funeral and stayed at their old house, where Lydia's daughter discovered the old model of the town, and maybe some story from the past or the way to summon the Beetlejuice, Lydia tried to prevent it but he was summoned, and I guess the rest we will have to wait to see

For me it was a perfect teaser because it gave so little away. I feel like trailers kinda just give everything away lately, so I hope the full trailer keeps some things quiet so we're still surprised.

The original Beetlejuice is the first movie I was allowed to go to the theater to see without my parents. I watched the VHS tape so much I'm surprised I didn't wear the tape out. I even watched the Saturday morning cartoon. I haven't been this excited to see a movie in a long time. I'm so glad that this is an actual sequel and not just another reboot.

Is it just me? I love how beetlejuice got only half of his face covered in makeup. I think it’s super original. And I love it didn’t cut the face in half vertically but horizontally, as if it is slowly taking over the human turning him into a whatever he is. I just love that makeup approach

It's 35 years old but still a perfect gem! hahah.. Michael is 72 years old and it's a 35 year jump from the last time we saw him as Beetlejuice. He will probably be alot less smooth. I think Winona Ryder looks gorgeous.. This goth set up just fits her so well... I couldn't imagine them recasting anyone @ all so I am happy they brought back the OG's especially Michael Keaton. I did hear that Geena Davis is coming back in this. I don't know how true it is but.. I could see at least her coming back.

Jake, you are the first person I've heard mention the stop motion aspect. I hope it returns as well. Especially with modern (perfect) compositing and frame interpolation techniques. I hope it doesn't just resort to CGI. However, considering the movie began principal photography more than a year ago now, stop motion scenes would actually make that amount of time make sense.

I feel like you might be asking a lot from a teaser trailer. Isn't the point of a teaser trailer is to give us little to nothing? I actually quite disagree though that it gave us nothing. It gave us confirmation that the dad is dead if you look really closely you can see his picture on his tombstone, it gave possible insight that Jenna Ortega's character might've been the one to summon Beetlejuice and Lydia found out and was horrified, and we got what I thought was an amazing entrance of Beetlejuice and a new quote! I also disagree with that he sounded off. I think she sounded and looked very much how he did in the first movie. Michael Keaton has stated that he had a lot of fun making this movie so I really feel he will give his all into his performance. I also disagree about Jenna Ortega. I think she's a great actress. Loved her in Wednesday and I think she is the perfect choice to play Lydia's daughter. That's just my opinion.

I think they filmed the teaser trailer on set as a showcase and some of these shots are not actual scenes from the movie, but still based on storyboards. It would explain some things. edit: i wrote it just before you also pointed that out.

When I watched the trailer I watched the burial super hard many times to see who is on that headstone, which looks like a shark fin, and the picture ALMOST looks like Lydias dad? possibly her husband if she got married. im excited to see where they are going with the story and why he is back, maybe Jenna wants to go to the other side to see her dad? or male character that died? just like Lydia wanted to go to the other side to get away?. I have high hopes.

Beetlejuice sounded kind of angry with that line. The only thing I can guess as a story is that Lydia's dad has passed away because of the funeral scene. Otho (the character not the actor) may have quit after what happened to him in the first movie.

To be honest, I'm more worried about Beetlejuice not being in the film nearly as much as expected. It had better not be like Batman in The Flash where all we really get is a glorified cameo we are left craving more of. They are making this new film for a new generation as much as they are longtime fans. My concern is that they'll concentrate more on Lydia's daughter than Lydia herself, not to mention the aformentioned Beetlejuice.

nah, it was always Otho, Jake. i've experienced the Mandela effect myself, but not with Beetlejuice. indeed Catherine O'Hara has aged like fine wine, in fact i dont see Jeffrey Jones anywhere in the trailer, so i'm guessing he is the funeral's guest of honor. RIP Charles Deetz, maybe he'll be at the waiting room in the movie, as i dont imagine that his death was anywhere near peaceful, even when living in Peaceful Pines.

I too am a little concerned about Michael Keaton's energy level (or lack thereof), but hoping within the movie itself that he has brought the Beetlejuice character we all love back to life (or undead life). I almost feel the end title graphic alludes to a stop motion type look, but I'm guessing you're not going to see stop motion until they release true movie scenes.
