@hughcaldwell1034
@hughcaldwell1034 14 сағат бұрын
I can't decide whether I like this suggestion or not. Intuitively it's a good idea, but a year might be long enough for everyone to analyse the main lines with engines, but too short to find viable innovations/variations. Maybe I'm wrong, though. But avoiding that sour spot is a matter of getting the time interval right. In principle I approve.

I love Chess960. The main problem I run into I like to call "Danger Of Cool Things." It's the tendency to go for cool lines without properly evaluating (of being able to evaluate) just because it looks really interesting. And in Chess960 this happens all the time, because every position is brand new and full of interesting aspects and possibilities. And then I go for something that looks really cool but turns out to be bad and then I lose. Oh well, still fun though.

Beating GMs online in blitz is very different from doing so over a 3 hour classical game. It's comparable to scoring a penalty versus winning the whole match
@SantiagoRK96
@SantiagoRK96 11 сағат бұрын
@@pastashack3517Yeah, Blitz and Classical are obviously different styles, but I don’t think beating a GM in Blitz is like scoring a penalty. It’s not mere chance. You still need to calculate lines and think through your moves. It’s just that intuition plays a bigger role in this style than in Classical. Maybe a better metaphor would be playing a 20-minute soccer match against Barcelona lol.

This shows, how important to memorize openings in chess. Levy beats 2 gms and they blunder because, in gm level opening theory goes on to like 20 moves. They dont have to understand the position when they memorized everything. But levy is not like them(yet). He excels at unpredictable positions. Well sometimes not but, in gm level they dont encounter unpredictibility that often. Congrats mate. Even though hikaru isnt believe that you ll became a gm, i saw that fierce in you. Keep trusting in your instincts.

I love 960 chess, I think the only reason "you get losing positions within x moves" is that we don't play it often. Every starting position of chess is incredibly complicated, and you can absolutely get losing positions in the standard one in a few moves if you're not familiar with it, the only reason this doesn't happen is that most people have memorised it without developing an intuition that translates to the random starting positions. My theory is that we'll eventually start catching on to those, leaving us with the freedom to bring new and creative approaches to chess rather than seeing the same starting moves every single time.

3:55 Personally, I prefer the idea of Chess324. If you require the king and rooks to be in their normal positions, the bishops to be on opposite colors, and shuffle within those constraints, you get 18 possible positions. If you shuffle both sides separately, you get 18^2=324 possible positions. This would get rid of massive opening theory like 960, but the positions look much more normal, so casual fans can understand better.

I find Fischer random interesting in some ways, but I think in terms of appeal (beyond the novelty level) it may be limited to super-GM's, who get frustrated with the amount of theory they have to play before getting into actually "playing chess", making the opening phase uninspiring to them (which Magnus seems to deal with in regular chess by playing off-beat or obscure lines). That was Fischer's reason for creating it in the first place. For everyone below that level, though, there's still so much to learn and understand that the opening phase is still interesting to play.
