Omg this sounds like so much fun! The Monk by Matthew Lewis is one of my all time faves! I highly recommend. It is very sick and twisted…I’ve never read The Italian, but maybe I’ll read The Mysteries of Udolpho 🤔

I’ve been wanting to talk to you about Villette. I read it a few months ago and have so many feeling about it.

Ok but are they good or bad feelings

@@thebaileygrind Both… I resonated so much with the character during her loneliness at that school, waiting for letters, thinking ‘today there WILL be something,’ only to be disappointed; I cried and cried. I admired the book, and was also annoyed at times and I still am unsure how many stars to give it!

@@SecondThoughtsAboutTheMission Ok, I'll try to make it through this time but the man falling in love with a child was hard to move past.

Oh… you mean what’s his face lol but she was an adult by the time they were reintroduced wasn’t she? I just thought that whole relationship was cringe anyway, and I get that feeling from Lucy … like there are undertones of hostility and I like that sort of realism.

I’m so excited we are both reading Madwoman in the Attic. Yes: I started this last year … but it’s really not that grueling to read; I just had to pause to read Villette (didn’t want spoilers) and I stopped reading everything while I was busy with Moby Dick. I think I’m 200 pages in.

It talks about Villette?! Ugh I might have to pause it again lol
