Thank you so much, Candy ❤ Your #GothlitNovember videos have meant so much to me, and I’m so glad Bailey and I decided to put this together. Interestingly, I was on the phone with a friend recently, and we were talking books. She told me Daphne Du Maurier based Rebecca on her own experiences with jealousy and insecurity, and that the writing of the book was cathartic and maybe sort of an exorcism. Wuthering Heights is my all time favorite gothic works, just one of my all around favorites, period. And yes, I’m not ashamed to admit, we love Heathcliff in this house 😂 We jokingly call one another Heathcliff, and I’ve had a t shirt for years which reads ‘Heathcliff it’s me, Cathy’ (Kate Bush) 😂❤ I’m so excited for your future reading plans! My daughter and I are still reading gothic works and plan to do so throughout the holiday season. I hope to film soon, but we’ve experienced something horrible in our family recently, which I can’t talk about in my vids. Anyway, oddly enough, gothic literature is helping me get through things. And I think it makes sense. Watching your videos has brought light into my days too, so thank you again Candy ❤❤❤

I'm so glad that you are going to deep dive into literature it will certainly make the transition of having an empty nest way less noticeable .I always love your enthusiasm...........now I feel like reading Wuthering Heights ....... I can not remember the last time I read a novel.I have never read a Gothic novel. You must be a fast reader you seem to have got through heaps of books.I start lots of books but only read a few pages maybe a couple of chapters ,then I get really bored and rarely finish them 😦Really enjoying your book videos 😘

So happy you enjoyed your reading so much and it is giving you something to do when the kiddos are away also 🥰Thank you for sharing and letting us know what the books are about and what you thought of them. I haven't had much time for reading lately. I have been spending most of my free time,which isn't much, talking with my little Grandaughter. She will be a year next month. Can't wait to get back up north to see her again. She says Nanny and my son tells me i am "Nanny in the box lol" She likes to play keep away with the phone and sits on me and hides me under the couch to keep me to herself. She brings me so much Joy 😂😂 I really do want to read Wuthering Heights and some others you have found, they sound so good and mysterious🤗🤗Much Love my Friend and Enjoy! 🥰🥰❤❤🙏🏻🙏🏻☮☮

Thank you sunshine dawn. Your time sounds amazingly well spent regardless of reading or not. Those are memories made that mean everything. Yes the literature studies are my first project I’m putting in place. I realised I really needed sone things happening I’m looking forward to as the kids leave as it’s no small thing to go through and I realised I would be in big trouble if I didn’t get a plan together. So it’s a life reclaim and life raft project in a way ❤️❤️❤️

@@CandySoulAndSoil They are precious memories. I can't even tell you how much it means to me. I am so glad you are figuring out what you want to do when the kids start making lives of their own. It is one of the hardest things a Momma can go through that is a natural part of being a Mom but i know you got this and like i have said before, they will always be in your Heart and you will always be in theirs.You are such a Great Mom and they love you so much! You have sacrificed so much to be their for them and they will never forget all you have done for them. Now is your time to do what makes you Happy 😊 😊 You are so Smart thinking ahead. Big hugs Momma Bear 🐻🤗🤗🥰🥰💖💖🙏🏻🙏🏻

Jane Eyre has been one of my top three favorite books since I was thirteen (I'm 55 now). It's been a while since I've reread it, though, so I think I'll put it at the top of my TBR list and enjoy cozying up with an old friend this holiday season.

I wonder if the less likeable wife in Rebecca is some kind of comment on the fact that society prefers demure women to firebrands and labels strong women as evil, but in this book the strong woman (ghost) is a much more interesting character. DuMaurier herself was rather a tough woman. Not having read the book, squashing the mushroom sounds like the woods encroaching on the house as well as crushing life reminiscent of getting rid of the babies. I'm reading Woman in Black now and enjoying it--I hear the movie is very good, too. I love the introductory story of him with his family telling ghost stories, reminding me of the traveller's encounter with Kathy's ghost in Wuthering Heights introducing the story. What I love about Gothic is it creates atmosphere and lets your own imagination fill in the blanks. Way too much babbling for a comment, but its a weak substitute for sitting down with you and chatting about these lovely books. (And yes, please, no dating Heathcliffs....!). 👻👻👻 I just sent you Tenant of Wildfell Hall for a happy Christmas!
@CandySoulAndSoilАй бұрын
Aww Nancy you sent me a book oh my goodness and it’s one I’ve wanted to find and havnt! Oh my, thank you so much!!!!! I would love if you lived up the rd and we could have a regular coffee meet up to discuss books. I didn’t like the second wife in Rebecca I think because she reminded me of things I don’t like in myself. Things that got me in really tough places in life like they led her to as well. That boundary-less people pleaser with no voice. I’m not her now but I was and it made me so frustrated to watch play out in the book. I wanted to climb into the pages and shake her. It also made me dislike him so much too. It was a fly on the wall self help book for me to remind myself to have a voice. Like I said these books bring in life lessons and reflections you may not be expecting from fiction. It’s been the most amazing month of reading and thank you so much for all your comments keeping me company…. Never too many words for a comment I appreciate every one of those words so much ❤️

I already put "Ghost Woods" on my wish list. I loved "The Woman in Black." Have you ever seen the movie with Daniel Radcliffe? It's superb. Thanks, Candy. oh, when you said you hadn't gotten to the woman in white it made me remember something - I read that, and dickens' bleak house, to read lynn shepherd's the solitary house, which sort of knits those two books together. that might be a perfect contemporary read for you. and she also wrote murder at mansfield park, which I also read but I don't know that I realized they have the same protagonist until I just now looked them up, I read them some years apart. I am really stuck in to finishing my TBR but I might just read dracula and lucy undying with you in february - I've never read dracula and I feel as though I should.

Jane Eyre is an all time favourite of mine too. This year I started to get into romantasy, we will see how it goes I’m like you in that literature, art and music are really important to me. Before I did my degree in art, I studied literature and history.

I really enjoyed how you discuss Gothic lit, particularly the lessons of each. I’m so glad this got you back into your love of literature. Lucy Undying is on my TBR so I may join you in February to read that. How long do you keep books in the freezer to disinfect?
@CandySoulAndSoilАй бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoyed the video thank you. The books I leave in the freezer for at least 3 days to make sure. It kills off anything. I also do the same with flour and pasta and rice. Having once bought a bag of flour full of weevils that got into my cupboard I’m obsessed now with freezing anything that might have the possibility of anything insect like and invisible brewing in it. It was a horror I can’t face again. Scarier than any ghost story 🖤

Jane Eyre is an all-time favourite. I reread it for goth lit November last year. 💜🖤It’s funny how interpretations change over time. I adored Wuthering Heights the first time I read it and I still absolutely love it, but I view it so differently at 39 than I did at 21!

I love Jane, but the guy was annoyingly manipulative. Mrs. Winters was young and dumb! And her guy was clueless, but I liked the surprise in Rebecca better. And the revelation of his true feelings...
