Wuthering Heights is my favourite English classic.. such a dark tale. I absolutely love Rebecca.. Daphne du Maurier was an amazing author..Jamaica Inn is another classic from her. i will certainly join in on this Gothlit november.. I also need to read Dorian Gray so I may try to read this. ✨✨

@@ifoundafox I read Wilkie Collins when I was 15…. So long ago now. I read the woman in white and the moonstone …. A teacher gave us all a list of 100 important books and I can Remeber everybody in my peer group throwing it in the bin laughing and I couldn’t get them I hung onto mine like a treasure. I can remember reading dickens off that last for the first time, wuthering heights the first time round, black beauty, little women, Thomas hardy, Jane austen, catch 22. I am honestly so happy I’ve found my way back to fiction again I’m having a blast.

Loved this! I can’t believe they were going to throw those books away, 😱but how lucky for you! I’m thrilled to hear you’re rereading Wuthering Heights. You probably know what a fan I am. I think I own 14 copies of it, which might be ridiculous, but most are illustrated, and a few include brilliant annotations and essays which I’ve also read. My daughter read it in tandem with me last year, and I included the little book report she wrote for it in last year’s gothlit wrap up. Ah! You’re making me want to read it again! All of these books sound intriguing and there’s a handful I’ve not heard of. I’m hoping to read Frankenstein this month. I loved it and learned a lot from it my first time reading a few years ago. I definitely read too much when I was in my 20s; there were just some things I couldn’t retain, but I was overwhelmed with the amount of books I wanted to read. It’s definitely not a competition. I make the error sometimes of referring to this as a challenge, but I usually correct my use of that word lol it’s not a challenge, we just want to talk about books! I’m delighted you’re savoring your reading experience, and I hope you continue to do so. Thank you for this lovely video Candy ❤❤❤

Rachel your trips to museums and your music and films and books with your daughter is honestly my very favourite thing on KZbin. I loved last year when you read wuthering heights together and the book report. I tried to get my daughter to do the same this year but she’s lost in a level study at the minute, she’s my tandem reader. You are such a great mom honestly it’s an absolute gift that you share snippets of it and your daughter is amazing! Thank you so much for the tag and the continued Inspiration you bring. I hope both you and Bailey realise how treasured your channels are 🖤🖤🖤

Hi Candy, what a great stack of books! I've read several on your pile. Rebecca, a year or two ago so. LOVED it. Anne Rice, The Witching Hour...omg, I read it in 1992 and I really am due for a re-read. It made a terrific impression on me. Wuthering Heights, I've read twice. I am currently reading Frankenstein for the very first time, too! It was on the used shelf of my local book shop earlier this month. Coincidence since I had just watched your bookshelf video and you mentioned Frankenstein...can't believe I have never read it either. I'm about two thirds in and it gets better and better. Enjoy your reading for November and certainly do not feel pressure. That's the worst feeling. Thanks for sharing your TBR for the GothLit!

Sounds like a Great plan Candy 🍬 🍬 Enjoy your reading. I think i have adhd or something because my mind wanders and i find myself having to reread the same paragraphs sometimes two or three times but i really want to know so i keep going. I love to read but i am very slow. I also read several books at a time sometimes. I am glad you are slowing down and not putting so much pressure on yourself. That is something i have started doing in the past few years. I have read many of Anne Rice's books in the past and plan on re-reading them also i need to get Wuthering Heights as i have never read it. I read Frankenstein a couple years ago with Kelly Bear and really enjoyed it. Have fun reading. Hi Tilly Sweetheart 🥰Love you both bunches 💖💖🤗🤗🙏🏻🙏🏻

Loved seeing what's on your GothLitNovember pile. There's definitely a few there that I'd like to read/reread. I read Wuthering Heights several times when I was at school and then again when I was at university but I'd definitely like to read it again as, honestly, I can't remember half of it now. I have Bone China in my to read pile too, I read Laura Purcell's Silent Companions, and it was such a gripping read! The Ghost Wood is also one that really intrigues me. I read the Witching Hour decades ago, it was such a BIG book and I remember loving it so much, even though thinking about it now there is much that I can't remember about it. I'd love to reread it but the prospect of all those pages is quite daunting.

I studied The Castle of Otranto for my dgree and didnt like it.Yiu must watch Rebecca with Joan Fontaine and Laurance Olivier. Its a classic film. Its a really good depiction.I love Susan Hill's books and the film is brilliant.im so glad you took up my recommendation of The Ghost Woods. @@CandySoulAndSoil Me too. I dont like the way most films do not seem to acknowlege the 'monster's ' tragic predicament. And who is the 'monster'? Is it the 'monster' or its creator? So sad. I think you will love The Ghost Woods. I think it has become one of my all time favourites. ❤😊❤

@@lizzieh5284 I know right! They both become mirrors of each other I think as the book progresses and it’s so sad. But Frankenstein at least tries to find a better way to move forward but all his doors are closed Victor has so many more options and at the end of the day it was always his responsibility

Yes, no, absolutely! No racing while reading! I'm totally getting it, agreeing with it. Reading is an experience, and one can't rush an experience! Just like running on the beach doesn't make one experience the beach more than the person who strolls along the same beach admiring the waves and sunrise, or another one who simply sits and buries their feet in the sand and just *is*, taking in the sunset. Or how about a kid who builds sandcastles or searches for the shells because that's fulfilling for them. They all will remember the beach, just differently. The runner maybe as a challenge or a place for great step count, the others for slightly differently. None of the ways however is better than the other. Me thinks. Dorian G. is a fabulous book!!! Ps. You didn't ask for any recommendations but if I still may, I'd add Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys to the list. Especially if you like Jane Eyre. From the contemporary authors the following ones are amazing gothic tales: One Dark Window + Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig, Gallant by V.E.Schwab, Archived + Unbound by the same author, and last but not least The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton. Wishing you (and us all) many cosy-happy moments reading this fall, and coming winter. 📖 ❤ ☕️

I was sad to hear that Christians would censor books about the supernatural. After all they created the devil, walking on water, the Holy Ghost, and immaculate conception. If those aren't outside the normal what is? I love Wuthering Heights, you may have inspired me to re-read it (or at least re-watch the movie with Olivier!). For the Gothic mood I love Du Maurier. She's a marvelous writer. Try The House on the Strand sometime as well! Dorian Gray is okay, but I think Jekyll and Hyde is more atmospheric. I've sent you a copy of my ghost story novel (Yesterday, Again) for your birthday to read whenever and if ever you want to!

I 100 percent support the slow down and savor reading approach. I want my reading to be a time when I settle down and become more present. I like to pause often during reading to appreciate and think about or even feel into what I just read. I love it when calmly paced reading helps me get in touch with a sense of my inner serenity.

Lovely video Candy, wow, lucky you being given those books ! I love reading fiction also especially creepy books. I recently bought The Witching Hour and Rebecca, having read them both years ago and wanted to read them again. I also love the books by Phil Rickman which are the Merrily Watkins Mysteries; I was also interested to learn that he lived by an old graveyard as I also did for a while, things happened like the T.V coming on by itself ect. but I got used to it after a while. Also I recently bought Shadows of Swanford Abbey by Julie Klassen which is a Regency Mystery; I'm looking forward to reading that. Happy reading dear Candy I look forward to more videos like this, bye for now♥

I have never read Wuthering Heights, but I think I want to grab this up. I agree it is so nice to take my time and read a book to savor it. I really do read more non-fiction also but I want to read more fiction. I just find myself losing interest easy because of how badly I get interrupted whenever I start reading. I just need to keep at it. I find it very very difficult to get through an Anne Rice novel because she is so wordy and detailed it becomes boring for me and just seems to drag on. I love her stuff more when it comes to film I think....LOL I know I am so bad. Thank you for the inspiration sweet lady. ❤
