MY DISABILITIES:
Hey, so dealing with my disabilities is a team effort. I've got a few awesome carers who totally have my back when it comes to setting up all the equipment, and let's be real, pacing myself is super important. My soft Premo Sculpey Polymer clay and trusty pasta machine? Total game changers. And safety first, always rocking that PPE no matter what art adventure I'm on. Oh! My voice sometimes needs a pep talk, so I take special medicines and perform hilarious voice exercises that probably has my cat giving me weird looks. Meow?🎨

Susie made a brilliant comment that could help all of us dragon lovers out with sculpting our dragon scales. It is such an AMAZING technique worth trying that is soooooooo easy. She suggested a bath scrunchie technique and there is now a tutorial on it. Thank you for your permission Susie😍. Just letting you know your brilliant suggestion of a bath scrunchie has been made into a tutorial you guys can watch it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3iYgmqihpqXlac

A technique i stumbled on was a bath scrungie. Layer it over the clay how I wanted it and rolled over it to impress it into the clay. Looked real good. You can use the idea for a tutorial if you like.

hi yes. I have a question. I' m trying my hand at a white dragon. as you know white picks up dirt easily. so i was thinking I would have to do it sections at a time. my question is if i put a glaze over a completed section to keep it free of dirt and bake it can i then do another section , glaze it also and bake a second time. i guess my question is , can a glazed and baked setion be rebaked? @@twofeathersgalleryart

@@ianrinehart3762 Happy to give you a few ideas Ian. There are a few options you could try: I am gathering you are probably using polymer clay? 1. One is that you could lightly sand the piece after its baked to remove any grime, fingerprints, dust etc. 2. Personally I would just bake the sections without a glaze for a shorter period of time each, so when it is all finished the overall bake time would be longer, however polymer clay is actually stronger the longer you bake it and many professionals do this in their practice including me. The instructions on the packet are just a fail safe to protect them for general users of the clay so people don't burn it, etc. As long as you cover it with a foil type tent over the top it wont burn and keep a close eye on your timer and at correct temperature it will be fine. (I use Premo Sculpey clay only btw). Because the clay sections will be baked, when you add the next section on...it wont be as susceptible to picking up dust and dirt etc. whilst you work on the next section. After this, I would then glaze or finish it as desired. 3.To answer your last question: Can a glazed and baked section be rebaked? I would contact the manufacturer of the glaze you use as they will know the constitution of the glaze and if it will be effected or not. You may need to try different formulations and test them safely. 4. Of course you can also wear gloves and keep hands and surface immaculately clean. I don't think it would be too enjoyable working in this fashion however lots of people do it. I am not patient enough for this myself!

@@twofeathersgalleryart wow! You took the time to give such a long and detailed answer. thank you ever so much. I am a biginner attempting the white dragon of Pern. It being all white it is difficult to make it spectacular. Making it for my sister who has been so helpful. Big dreams. if it turns out okay will send a pic. Btw. the trick with the paper clip to make goosepimples does not work with fimo but I like fimo's white which however is too hard unlike sculpy. Best wishes. and thanks once more.

@@ianrinehart3762The white Dragon of Pern eh? Anne MacCaffrey is the author of this book I see. Its a stunning looking white dragon and would look soooooo good in all that white clay! Might I suggest perhaps a green coloured cats eye (bead or cabochon) - eye for the eye of your dragon sculpture as it looks very similar to the picture of the dragon on the book. You could always use green clay though and perhaps a smidge of PearlX mica powder or ask around for a similar colour eye shadow to dust over for a metallic sheen look and then finish just the eyeball with a tiny touch of clear UV resin for a realistic watery eye effect? Just a suggestion... Here is a link to the cats eye bead look I mentioned. You may need to check you have the right size or even go for a cabochon depending what size your dragon sculpture is: www.ebay.com.au/itm/222157329052 I would seriously LOVE to see a pic thanks! Yes I find Fimo very hard to work with because I have chronic pain in my hands and it is a firmer clay that is great for canes and such. I prefer premo sculpey for ease of use and my pasta machine makes the job so much easier in terms of activating the plastic polymers in the polymer clay so they bond properly and conditioning the polymer clay and making it even softer and more enjoyable to work with. Back to the white Dragon of Pern - The dragon wings look super big in relation the the rest of the dragon body, so you may want to consider using a wire armature inside the dragon wings so that they don't collapse! And just in general with any type of wing it really needs extra support. Any kind of wire would work. Aluminium is the most flexible and easy to move around in different shapes in my opinion, however galvanised steel is great too. If you are going to bake the dragon wings in last, then remember to make sure you leave some holes to poke the wire into. But this isn't such a huge concern as you can also gently drill some in after baking too. Just another suggestion and good luck. I am sure your sister will LOVE it! Just keep going with it and experimenting and having fun. You may even want to test a small prototype first before going onto the finished white piece. I always do this for my tutorials so that I can work out any kinks before moving to a finished piece. Hopefully all this helps buddy 🙏 P.S. I am hearing that you and my subscribers would like technical advice lately, so I will attempt to make some more vids on these topics. Please let me know what you would most like to know about and consider subscribing to my channel if you haven't already? What you can bake safely, dragon wings, dragon claws, comparing different types of clay and its uses, polymer clay health and safety, how to make resin wings.
